• The Best Places to Get Fit in 2013

    January 4, 2013

Brrrrr… it’s chilly out there this morning. Single digits! Yikes! Does anyone else miss summer as much as I do? Wah.

Now doesn’t the morning scene below look a lot nicer?

Ok, it’s a beach in the Bahamas and not my backyard in southern Massachusetts, but you know what I mean, right?

The image above is from an article about Lonely Planet’s Best Places to Get Fit in 2013. I really enjoyed reading (and daydreaming) about all of the different places from around the world to get fit. Check out the workouts and places featured:

    1.Wild Fitness in Kenya

    2.Hiking the Appalachian Trail

3.A Detox Retreat in Bali, Indonesia

    4.Bikini Bootcamp in Tulum, Mexico

5.A Yoga Ashram in the Bahamas

6.Fatpacking in various locations across the globe

    7.Following the Tour de France

    8.Surf Camp in Australia

    9.Triathlon Training in Italy

    10.Thalmar Biarritz in France

I’d be more than happy to visit any of these places and get fit. The one that especially peaked my interest was Wild Fitness in Kenya, where you “channel your inner caveman” at a nature-oriented fitness resort on the Indian Ocean. Activities include: ‘wild moving’ (barefoot running, swimming, climbing), ‘wild eating’ (lots of meats, fruits and vegetables, no dairy or processed foods) and ‘wild living’ (good sleep habits, ‘tribal bonding’ with others). Doesn’t that sound cool? I’d love to spend a vacation that way!

    Breakfast

Yesterday’s breakfast was my usual French Toast Breakfast Scramble (love) with a couple of scoops of Teddie peanut butter. But, not just any old Teddie peanut butter: Unsalted Super Chunky!

    047

Ok, don’t get too excited. It’s not as good as the (salted) Super Chunky, but it was still fun to try for the first time. Most grocery stores (at least the ones I shop at) don’t carry this variety—just the Smooth Unsalted. I wonder if that means people tend to buy smooth peanut butter over chunky? I dunno, but I’m a chunky gal all the way.

I also drank a glass of iced Dandy Blend with almond milk with breakfast.

    Questions of the Day

How do you like your peanut butter: smooth or chunky?

If you had to pick from the list above, where would you most like to get fit?

P.S. Today’s the last day to register for the fitmixer Boot Camp! It starts a week from Monday (January 14th). I’m planning to do it too! CNC readers get 25% off registration with the code CNCBC25.

I used to detest chunky nut butter when I was little, but now its all I eat! If I could do any of the fitness ideas on the list I’d love to try a retreat in Indonesia- one of my new years resolutions is to meditate/relax/stretch more.

I love both but it depends on what I’m doing with it. If I’m baking I usually use chunky to add extra texture but if I’m eating a PB sandwich or using it in a sauce I always use smooth!

Thank you for the link to the Lonely Planet article- such a great find! I second your daydreaming- especially about a yoga ashram!

As for peanut butter? Smooth unless i’m eating it off a spoon!

@Ella: So glad I’m not the only one who saw that – can’t believe you’re the first to comment on it though! Is fatpacking a thing I don’t know about??

Crazy I know, but I like them both equally. Some people are really dedicated to chunky or smooth, but I’m happy to slather either on a banana, cracker, my face, etc.

I used to only like smooth peanut butter, but now I love the texture of crunchy!

Bikini Bootcamp in Mexico sounds like the type of place I would love to go to!

Smooth! I’m a smooth girl all the way. Just bought Justin’s Classic Smooth last night, and am soooooo excited to try it out. If I could, I’d be off to Surf Camp in Australia. Get fit, Get a tan, Eat some seafood…..sounds good to me!

Most definitely crunchy! I’d love to do all those things on the list, but hiking the Appalachian Trail or the surf camp in Australia sound amazing!

All of those fitness destinations sounds awesome–especially since we’re in the dead of winter. Following the Tour de France would be fun, but if I could only do one, I’d choose triathlon training in Italy. I love swimming, biking, and running, and Italy has been on my must-visit list forever, so combining the two into one trip would be perfect! :)

Chunk! It’s not actually on that list, but when I saw the Appalachian Trail I thought two things: a) the parts of the Appalachian Trail I’ve hiked have all been terrible, but b) the Pacific Crest Trail would be awesome!

Since the discovery of all the other nut butters out there I’ve stopped eating PB. I don’t really like the taste anymore. I prefer creamy sunbutter over everything else these days, or Justins Chocolate Hazelnut or Maple Almond if I’m really splurging.

I also 100% miss summer already. As soon as Christmas is over, I’m like ok cool when can I go to the beach again? And I’m a smooth peanut butter gal personally, but I mix it up with chunky once in awhile. I like smooth to spread on toast etc, and chunky to eat straight from the jar!

Crunchy!!! Sometimes I don’t find crunchy & wonder the same thing. Smooth is just not as good!

I love both, but I think smooth is more multi-purpose. I love peanut butter, but I’ve been gone for over a week, and I miss my peanut butter from home! the kind here just isn’t the same!

I almost always go with creamy unsalted nut butters, but love to mix it up once in a while with crunchy or flavored! Wild Fitness in Kenya sounds seriously intriguing.

My husband really wants us to do the Appalachian Trail. He got about halfway before being called up for deployment. I don’t mind so much about hiking it; it’s the fact that I would have to take months off of work to do it. But it does seem like a great challenge!

I think I love smooth almond butter the best. But theres something good about chunky nut butters…especially in oatmeal or something.
I would pick Triathlon training in Italy. I love Italy and want to go there so, so, so bad and triathlons are the bomb. Maybe I’ll do one oneday if I can get tough enough.

    Smooth all the way!

Also those all sound fun, but I think hiking the Appalachian Trail sounds the best to me. I’ve always wanted to do a long hiking trip!

Chunky. All day. But I can appreciate creamy PB from time to time. Try pouring some sea salt (himalayan sea salt is super healthy) in your jar of unsalted PB – SO so good!

Smooooooth nut butter! Probably because I like spreading it on things, and the smoothness makes that easier.

That one on the beach looks so amazing! I would loveeee that. I love chunky peanut butter on sandwiches but for toast I usually like smooth.

Following the Tour de France is one of the most exhausting yet absolutely amazing things I have ever done. I more than recommend it to anyone who has ever even considered it….it’s like a permanent high the entire time you’re there!

I’m a nut butter fan regardless, I like smooth, chunky, peanut, almond, cashew, etc. Just get it into my mouth and belly as fast as possible!
