• Carpe Diem Kryptonite

    January 18, 2013

    Good morning! Happy Friday!

I had a tough time getting out of bed this morning. I usually set my alarm for 5:45 AM, but I forgot to set it last night. Mal woke up with his alarm, no problem, this morning, but he let me sleep in. What a nice guy!

A little after 6:00 AM, Murphy came back to bed. (He eats his breakfast and then gets back in bed until mid-morning when I force him to go for a walk.) The pug was all warm and cozy, curled up next to me like a croissant, so it made getting out of bed this morning very difficult. Mal and I actually call this move “carpe diem kryptonite” because Murphy ruins any chance of us getting out of bed and seizing the day. He’s so darn comfortable, we just want to stay in bed and cuddle him all morning long.

Eventually, I forced myself out of bed and made myself some breakfast. On the menu: a French Toast Breakfast Scramble with some butternut squash mixed in. I had about 2-3 tablespoons leftover from last night’s dinner, so instead of tossing it, I saved it for this morning to add into my breakfast. I also drank a decaf iced coffee with almond milk.

As always, I also added a couple of scoops of peanut butter to my breakfast. I finished off the jar, so I let Murphy lick the inside.

The peanut butter jar was actually a plastic one from Whole Foods (their chunky peanut butter is really good, btw), so Murphy had a blast running (excitedly) all over the house with it in his mouth. Usually, I give him an empty jar of Teddie peanut butter to lick, which is glass and a lot heavier and more difficult to move, so he just eats it in one place. The plastic jar was a lot lighter, so he started licking it in the kitchen and then moved to the back room near my office and then finally ended up on the couch to finish it. (I guess he wanted to get good and comfortable while he enjoyed his peanut butter.) Murphy was so cute and he totally made my morning! I love dogs.

    Question of the Day

What’s your relationship with the alarm clock? Do you get up as soon as it goes off or do you hit snooze? If you’re a snoozer, how many times do you typically hit it before you get up?

P.S. Just had to share this comic with the zombie (and treadmill?) lovers! Haha!

I’m a snoozer through & through. I’ll hit the snooze button as many times as I can reasonably get away with. My husband and I are in the process of finding a little doggie to adopt, which can take time. But, all of these precious Murphy pics just make me that much more impatient. Hehe. 😉 Murphy’s such a little heart melter. 🙂

I tend to hit the snooze button, unless I know I have a big meeting. Really, I should just go to bed earlier.. that’d probably solve that problem.

    Rebecca@RunningFoodBaby January 18, 2013 at 1:14 pm

I usually get up before the alarm…..

I have only pressed the snooze button once in my life. Otherwise I am a get up and get going type of lady

    Gianna January 18, 2013 at 1:16 pm

That face! He is just the cutest. And I get wanting to get comfortable with a jar of peanut butter.

Depends on how rested I am and the weather. I’m a morning person but the cold and dark at 5am makes motivating some mornings a bit tougher than others!

    sherice@foodieluvsfitness January 18, 2013 at 1:37 pm

Having to pee usually gets me out of bed.. me or the dogs.. then we go back to bed and snuggle.. I’ve got 2 Boston Terriers.

Murphy is just so dang cute.. I just made my boys some homemade dog treats yesterday…. peanut butter, pumpkin, oat flour.. they LOVE them!!

    Lauren January 18, 2013 at 1:54 pm

I know exactly what you mean about Carp Diem Kryptonite! It is infinitely more difficult to get out of bed when there’s a little warm dog snuggled up against you. Especially on a cold morning.

I’m up right when it goes off, unless I set it to be productive on my days off. Then sometimes I will reset it, or snooze. If I don’t get up right away, its pretty hard to get up again!

    Evamarie January 18, 2013 at 2:24 pm

I hit the snooze my whole life until I made one simple change a year ago. That change not having i next to me. I have no choice but to get up walk over and shut it off – that changed my life!

    Jill January 18, 2013 at 2:31 pm

I hit snooze at least once maybe twice if im really tired!

meghan @ struggle muffins January 18, 2013 at 2:42 pm

Murphy with the jar stuck on his face is too precious for words (and Whole Foods 365 Chunky is the BEST)!

    Alyssa January 18, 2013 at 2:48 pm

Omg his face with the jar in his mouth is priceless hahaha!

I usually get up within five minutes of my alarm going off. I purposely set it so that I don’t have enough time to hit snooze, even though sometimes I wish I could just go back to sleep lol.

    Nicole January 18, 2013 at 2:59 pm

I’m a morning person so it’s up & adam for me! However, last night my pup got into bed around 7pm and I had to chase him out at 7am! (After I’d already been up for hours!!)

Kristen @ Change of Pace January 18, 2013 at 3:06 pm

Omg Murphy you goober! He’s so cute Tina. Yesterday and today I had a harder time getting out of bed than usual. It was weird. Usually the smell of coffee brewing is just what I need haha 🙂

    Annette@FitnessPerks January 18, 2013 at 3:09 pm

I have my alarm clock on a REALLY annoying sound, so I turn it off right away & pretty much jump out of bed. I know that if I can GET up, then I”ll be fine & then I take my time in the bathroom ‘waking’ up & rubbing my eyes. Some mornings it’s less of a ‘jump’ out of bed <–the alarm is kinda scary (hah) and more of a 'roll out'.

    Cate January 18, 2013 at 4:12 pm

I’m awful and purposely set my alarm for an hour before having to acualy wake! I know I’d be better off sleeping solid for that one hour and waking up when I need too, but I think mentally, it’s better for me. It’s tough on days like today when it’s only in the 20s! Have a great weekend!

Thanks for sharing this link! 🙂

    Suzanne January 18, 2013 at 4:52 pm

Oddly I usually wake up before it goes off, if not I’m up as son as it goes off!

    Amy H. January 18, 2013 at 5:28 pm

I am a snoozer all the way, hate mornings! Also, I can totally relate to Murphy being kryptonite, as I have a French bulldog (Cooper) and he is a total snuggler – I hate getting out of bed and leaving him!

    Aurora@Fitness is Sweet January 18, 2013 at 5:48 pm

I’m always up early for workouts, so I feel bad about waking up my roommate. I turn it off as quickly as possible!

    Katie @ skinnyminniemoves January 18, 2013 at 7:23 pm

    I set 3 alarms: 420 430 and 445. Usually 445 I’m like CRAP lol…

    Candice@allthingsyogi.com January 18, 2013 at 7:23 pm

Depends on the day…but I workout in the am ALWAYS because its when I have the most energy.

Jennifer @ Peanut Butter and Peppers January 18, 2013 at 8:26 pm

Murphy is so cute!! I get up at 3:30am like clock work, no alarm needed!! My dogs get up to so they can go outside than it’s a demand for breakfast!!

    Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl January 18, 2013 at 9:11 pm

It looks like Murphy might like peanut butter even more than I do! Which is pretty difficult to accomplish ;).

    Samantha January 18, 2013 at 9:17 pm

Once my alarm goes off, I’m up and out of bed. I have a hard time going back to sleep in the morning, so I know if I ever tried to snooze, I would end up just laying awake in bed until it was time for me to get up. Sometimes I wake up before my alarm, and I always get out of bed then because I’m always ready to start my day! I guess this makes me a morning person!

And the little pug is adorable. I would be taking pictures ALL THE TIME if he were in my house!

Sally Chippendale January 18, 2013 at 10:51 pm

I hate, hate, hate getting out of bed. Two toddlers make it impossible to sleep in though. The smell of coffee is the only thing that gets me out of bed. Everyone else in the house springs out of bed with a smile on their faces, I really wish I could do that. I work out at 6 – 8 pm, best time for me.

    Danielle @ Truffles n' Treadmills January 18, 2013 at 10:53 pm

hahaha love the treadmill picture. and that is such a cute photo of the dog!

    Melissa January 18, 2013 at 11:36 pm

I used to be pretty good at getting out of bed, but lately it’s been the opposite. My bed is so warm and cozy and I never seem to get enough sleep so I often just sit up and stare at nothing while trying to process that it’s already morning.

    Kristen @ notsodomesticated January 19, 2013 at 7:02 am

I typically get up when my alarm first goes off. But if I had a puppy like Murphy to cuddle with, I think I’d be a lot more likely to stay in bed! 😉

    Alyssa January 19, 2013 at 12:20 pm

I used to have the skill of popping right up when my alarm went off…however…the longer I live with my husband the worse I’ve become. I’m embarrassed to admit, I’ve become a chronic snoozer 🙁

She Rocks Fitness January 19, 2013 at 4:55 pm

I set the clock once and then hop myself up right out of bed, otherwise it gives me to much time to think about actually getting up. I actually wake up a few minutes before my alarm goes off and always set my coffee to start brewing as well, so the apartment smells fabulous.

    Kait @ChickadeeSays January 20, 2013 at 12:58 pm

I sometimes wish that my Tinkerbelle was like that! In the morning she is bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and usually pops back in trying to wake me up with a squeaky ball!

    xx Kait

    Lisa January 21, 2013 at 7:59 am

Too cute! I can see my little dachshunds doing the same. : )*

And I’m pretty good at waking up @ the first sound of my alarm. I had to wake up @ 5AM during my high school years to catch my 6 o’clock bus; so waking up on time is pretty much ingrained in me.
