How Do You Like Your Yoga?

December 12, 2012

Hello, hello! How’s your Wednesday treating you? I hope well! I’ve enjoyed a nice day so far.

Breakfast

This morning’s breakfast was a French Toast Breakfast Scramble with Teddie peanut butter, which, of course, I went back for a second and third scoop of. I was really hungry when I woke up this morning, so I also added some extra egg whites to my scramble. And I drank a glass of (decaf) iced coffee with SO Delicious Nog Coconut Milk.

After breakfast, I met Kerrie at Starbucks for some coffee and blogging. She recently started a blog for her business, so I’ve been helping her with it.

While we worked, I sipped on a decaf eggnog misto (1/2 decaf coffee + 1/2 steamed eggnog). The barista gave me the option of having the eggnog mixed with regular milk (like they do for the lattes), but I opted for straight up eggnog, which was a seriously delicious decision. Eggnog me!

Workout

A little while later, Kerrie and I packed up our things and headed to Open Doors for a fabulously sweaty hot power yoga class. I hadn’t taken a hot yoga class since the 2nd Health Living Summit in Chicago, so it had been awhile… I forgot how much I like it! I loved the fast pace and sweatiness of today’s class, so I ended up buying a 3-pack of classes, which I know will get used in the coming months. Winter in New England? Hello!

Lunch

After yoga, I came home and threw together lunch, which was a turkey burger with BBQ sauce and some Sweet Potato Wedges. While lunch cooked, I snacked on some peanuts and a few pieces of cheddar cheese, which, obviously, aren’t pictured because I was starving and didn’t think to whip out my camera as I chowed down as soon as I walked into the kitchen after yoga. You know what I’m talking about, right? Feed me mode.

PiYo!! I teach it here in Binghamton but it’s offered all over the country: check out http://www.turbokick.com for classes in Boston – you won’t be sorry! YouTube it if you want: It’s faster paced, to fun music and is a ridic workout for your muscles – think a lot of planks, pushups, tricep pushups/charungas, plie squats mixed in with traditional yoga/pilates moves. There’s even a plyometric section mixed in to really kick your butt! Please try it! :)

I’m finding, more and more, that a heated Vinyasa class is my favorite. I’ve done a bunch of different styles over the years, and was a Bikram devotee for a while, but I don’t like the rigidity of Bikram. I was lucky enough to do a power yoga workshop with Bryan Kest last weekend, and it was GREAT. So much fun, and so very challenging. I was sore for 3 days afterward, lol,!
Oh, and PiYo is terrific!

I don’t really like yoga, but I have started going to the 1x a week class they are offering at our box. My muscles seem to like it even though I’m bored to death.

I’m actually not a really big yoga fan – hot, slow, fast, doesn’t matter. I just don’t really enjoy it all that much, though I have tried to “will” myself to like for many years. Recently, I finally made peace with the fact that it’s just not my thing (for now anyways) and have instead focused my energy on workouts I do enjoy. :D

I love Bikram yoga. I love the hot of the room, the structure poses and the feeling of well being after I finish a practice.

I love Bikram Yoga. Ninety minutes of structure and focus. It’s intense but I always leave with a great sense of accomplishment and wellness.

I don’t do yoga anymore, but when I did, I did both regular yoga at 24 hour fitness as well as bikram yoga. I had a love/hate relationship with bikram because of the intense heat and time period, but after class was over I always felt refreshed. I may try and get back into yoga eventually, but right now I’m focused on just cardio and strength training.

I like a mix of flow and power. I’d rather do yoga that makes me sweat and feel like I got a good workout in rather than focused on meditation, but I don’t like when poses are switched between to quickly that I didn’t get a deep enough stretch or felt like I had a chance to get all the way into it, know what I mean? I’m looking forward to coming back to Mass for the holidays because my mom will bring me (pay for me) to come to a few yoga sessions with her! :)
