• Quote of the Week

    November 15, 2012

I’m loving my box’s Quote of the Week:

    IMG_5970 (563x750)

Great, right? It’s a little (big?) something to think about on this fine Thursday.

I woke up craving peanut butter this morning, so I made a French Toast Breakfast Scramble and loaded it up with a huge scoop of Teddie and then went back for a second scoop a little while later. Yay, peanut butter!

    IMG_5964 (750x563)

I also drank a glass of iced Dandy Blend with organic half & half.

    IMG_5962 (750x563)

I guess I went a little heavy on the half & half because when Mal saw my glass, he asked if was an “extra extra” aka coffee with extra cream and extra sugar. (Is that a South Shore thing?)

    IMG_5966 (750x563)

After breakfast, I went to CrossFit. I was planning to take a yoga class today, but a surprise WOD motivated me to go. Our only hint was “it’s not Fran,” so I figured it’d probably be a good one and, obviously, I was super curious!

    (hint: it’s not Fran)

The WOD was “Jerry,” which was a 1 mile run + 2,000 meter row + 1 mile run. Fun times indeed! Actually, the row and second mile were absolutely brutal (my quads were on fire!), but it doesn’t have to be fun to be fun, right?

    IMG_5967 (563x750)

My friend (and best/favorite competitor) Kerrie was in class today (we actually planned to go to the 9:00 AM class together last night), so I tried to keep up with her during the WOD. We were neck-in-neck on the first mile (we both finished around 6:30!), but for some reason, during the row, I thought we only had to do 1,000 meters, so I stopped and took my feet out of the straps, thinking I was finished. I was about to get up and run the final mile, but then someone reminded me it was 2,000 meters. Crap. Brain frat. I was only half done! Kerrie finished the row and took off on the last mile. I tried to catch up to her, but she finished the WOD more than a minute before me. Even still, I know trying to “compete” with her made me a much faster runner today. I finished in 24:21. P.S. Kerrie is frickin’ FAST!

After CrossFit, I ran some errands around town and then came home to make lunch. I ate reheated leftovers from the previous night’s dinner. They were good, but nothing too special about them.

    IMG_5972 (750x563)

I spent the next few hours working and then headed out to get a manicure at Allure Spa.

    IMG_5983 (750x563)

My brother-in-law gave me a gift card to Allure Spa for Christmas last year, and I’m still working on spending it. It’s the gift that keeps on giving!

    IMG_5982 (750x563)

I ended up splurging and going with a Shellac manicure today. I’ve had them in the past, but they never last more than 5 or 6 days for me. I told the manicurist I’m pretty rough with my hands, but she insisted it would last for at least 2 weeks. We shall see.

When I got home, I was starving, so I snacked on some Sweet Potato Wedges with a crapload of Teddie Peanut Butter. Apparently, I’m in a peanut butter mood today.

    IMG_5986 (750x563)

And now I’m off to meet some Fitfluential folks for dinner. We’re going to Reebok headquarters for a blogger event tomorrow! Woohoo!

I love that they have a quote of the week! And a 6:30 mile!? You should be proud of that! Sounds like a fun WOD to me!

Kristen @ Happy Running Mama November 15, 2012 at 5:21 pm

Oh, I SO needed that quote right now! I’ve had a day from hell and needed something to help remind me how much I have to be thankful for.

I don’t ever (like, EVER) get manicures but had a shellac one this summer and loved it. It stayed for 3 weeks. It can be hard on your nails, I think, and maybe takes the top layer of nail off when they remove the shellac so I guess that is the drawback. (Although, truth be told, I peeled the shellac off myself so maybe that is why I lost the top layer of nail?!)

Meghan @ After the Ivy League November 15, 2012 at 5:27 pm

“Large iced cah-fee, extra extra”….we get that down here in Providence too! haha. Great WOD, have fun at the FitFluential event, can’t wait to read the recap!

    Sarah @PickyRunner November 15, 2012 at 5:27 pm

Such a great quote! And a awesome sounding day! My goal for this weekend is to make that french toast scramble 🙂

Amanda @ Eat More Rabbit Food November 15, 2012 at 5:28 pm

Great quote! And I think you will be very pleased with the shellac manicure!

    Ed November 15, 2012 at 5:28 pm

Hehehe ironic that crossfit used a buddha quote as inspiration…just saying buddha didn’t have a crossfit bod!

Michelle (Peachy Palate) November 15, 2012 at 5:28 pm

it will last! i cook non stop and don’t last more than a couple of hours with a normal manicure and I got the two weeks out of it!

    Cindy November 15, 2012 at 5:30 pm

My mum always got extra-extra and we lived in Framingham! (I could use a Dunkin Donuts coffee right now!)

I get Shellac all the time and it always lasts 2+ weeks for me and I am so rough on my hands, especially now that I’m working part time.

WTG on the WOD! I really hope to be able to try out CrossFit one of these days!

    Jodea @ chillichocolatelove November 15, 2012 at 5:31 pm

You reminded me I must roast up some sweet potato at the beginning of the week to snack on! Saves those moments when you end up eating a not so great snack just because you’re hungry and in a hurry!

I love the quote, especially the health part – it’s something I try never to take for granted.

Good luck with the nails – my manis never last either. Oh to be groomed at all times!

Rachel (Two Healthy Plates) November 15, 2012 at 5:39 pm

Great quote! I’ve been wanting to try shellac for a long time now but I’m too afraid that it will be a pain to get rid of!

    Anne C November 15, 2012 at 5:40 pm

Oh Yay! I am so excited about winning the bag! Thanks so much! I just sent you an email

    Annette@FitnessPerks November 15, 2012 at 5:43 pm

Christina @ The Beautiful Balance November 15, 2012 at 6:01 pm

    Abby @ BackAtSquareZero November 15, 2012 at 6:09 pm

You say that a your friend is fast… with a 6:30 mile I say you are a speed demon. Wow girl!
P.S.- That Buddha was a smart guy:)

Carrie @ Fitness and Frozen Grapes November 15, 2012 at 6:10 pm

Such a great quotation. And holy smokes–a 6:30 mile is fast! Nice work!

    Brooke @ beingvivacious November 15, 2012 at 6:13 pm

oh goah, I’m like you. My nails never ever last as long as they are supposed to.

    Danielle November 15, 2012 at 6:35 pm

Your “extra extra” is called “light and sweet”…at least here in NJ it is 😉 So fun to hear regional differences…I had no idea it has different names!

Tiffany (NatureMom) November 15, 2012 at 6:45 pm

I am excited about Twilight. I am a Twihard I admit. 🙂 If I wasn’t such and ancient 35 year old I would be seeing it at midnight tonight.

    Megan November 15, 2012 at 7:33 pm

lol extra extra isn’t a south shore thing– it’s a dunkin donuts thing..

    Nancy November 15, 2012 at 8:34 pm

Did you ever do a final post on your new driveway? I was looking forward to see the total “all done!” pics. Did I miss the post?

    Tina November 15, 2012 at 9:27 pm

Yep! Just search “driveway” and the post will pop right up! 🙂

michelle kim November 15, 2012 at 8:53 pm

It really does help to push myself when I am running with people who are faster than me. If it was on my own, I would give up much more quickly.

    Theodora November 15, 2012 at 10:16 pm

Damn you and Julie. I was going to suggest we sneak some manis in this weekend!

Steph @ Steph Stays Slim November 15, 2012 at 10:34 pm

I always do the shellac mani’s, but 2 weeks is a bit of a push…I’m pretty rough on mine too and it lasts a good week, anything after that looks blah! I’m def craving oatmeal with PB now, I guess I know what I’m having for breakfast tomorrow!

    Jill November 16, 2012 at 1:04 am

Extra, extra? In Canada, we say –>Double, double. 🙂

Khushboo Thadani November 16, 2012 at 1:12 am

    Great quote!

    Nicole@ livingthesweetlifestl.wordpress.com November 16, 2012 at 7:13 am

Pretty nails! I made an appointment to get mine done tomorrow…I’ll have to ask about that shellac type of one because I always chip mine within the first day or two.

    Ashleigh V November 16, 2012 at 7:48 am

My husband is from the Taunton area of Mass (I’m not sure if this considered south shore or not) but he always orders “extra extra”… 🙂 I had never heard it ordered that way until I met him…

meghan @ struggle muffins November 16, 2012 at 8:54 am

Hey Tina – I’ve been wanting to try your breakfast scramble but just haven’t been able to break free from my morning oats/ quinoa routine…until today. I’m officially a convert – love this, thanks for the inspiration!

    Allison @ Life's a Bowl November 16, 2012 at 10:21 am

Awesome quote and absolutely true! I am so thankful for my healthy days and hope for many more weeks, months, and years in the future! I got my first jar of Teddy PB in the mail yesterday- can’t wait to try it 🙂

    Lindsey November 16, 2012 at 10:23 am

Haha, I never comment but today the “Extra Extra” made me laugh. I’m from Raynham and french vanilla, extra extra, was the cool thing to get in high school. Now I think it would make me immediately sick!

Molly @ Just Your Average Athlete November 16, 2012 at 11:12 am

Great quote! Actually just what I needed to see this morning 🙂

    Julia H. @ Live Young & Prosper November 16, 2012 at 12:26 pm

Shellac manicure vs. Crossfit: the ultimate showdown.

    Tina November 16, 2012 at 12:48 pm

    Haha! Seriously!

    Jolynn November 16, 2012 at 1:11 pm

630? Good grief. You’re an animal.

And the winner of that bag definitely deserved it!

    Isabel November 16, 2012 at 5:47 pm

Is there a specific reason why you’ve been swapping half and half with your usual almond milk lately?

Jess @ Blonde Ponytail November 17, 2012 at 9:14 pm

Diggin’ the Jerry WOD! Looks like a TOUGH one!!
