I totally took a break from my camera/blogging while I was away. I’m usually a photo freak and snap pictures of everything, but, this time, I just lived life and enjoyed it without documenting every little thing. It was definitely a nice change of pace, but, I have to admit, I wish I took more photos that I actually did. (I didn’t even take a photo of the bride and groom! Isn’t that terrible? We were all having so much fun on the dance floor, I never even thought of my camera!) I have such a bad memory, so it’s nice to have pictures to remember those moments. From the photos that I did manage to take, here are some tidbits from the weekend!

The wedding was held at Roche Harbor on San Juan Island in Washington. We joked it was like “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” since we traveled by taxi, plane, rental car, and ferry to get there.

All of the travel was well worth it though because Roche Harbor and the resort where we stayed were absolutely beautiful! It was such a gorgeous place for a wedding.

On Saturday morning, Mal and I woke up bright and early and starving for breakfast. (Our stomachs were on East coast time.) The resort had a cute café right on the water, so we went there for breakfast. I ordered a breakfast scramble with eggs, lean ground beef, onions, spinach, mushrooms, and Parmesan with hash brown potatoes on the side. It was awesome, and I ate this same breakfast two different mornings on the island.

I spent the rest of Saturday morning at the spa where I enjoyed more than an hour-long manicure, which involved a salt scrub, paraffin treatment, hand and forearm massage, and manicure. It was the longest, most amazing manicure I have ever experienced.

While my nails dried, I read a magazine and relaxed by the fire. It was a pretty stellar morning.

After my manicure, I stumbled upon this sign:

HardCiderTasting

Spirits and hard cider tasting? THAT sounded like fun, so I mentioned it to Mal and his step-brother, Greg, and his wife, Jen. They were all game for it, so we grabbed a quick lunch and then walked to the distillery.

At the San Juan Island Distillery, we tasted three hard ciders, each with a different level of sweetness. The driest cider was my favorite””it was almost like a dry white wine.

We also tried some apple brandy, gin, and various lavender-, thimbleberry- and rose-infused liquors, which were neat to try and definitely interesting, but just not my thing. Even still, I thought it was really cool the distillery used flowers from the island in their recipes.

After the tasting, we headed home and got ourselves ready for the rehearsal dinner.

A lot of Mal’s extended family also attended, so I spent the evening catching up with them (and not snapping pics).

On Sunday morning, Mal and I woke up early to do a travel WOD. You can read all about it here!

After our workout, we met Greg and Jen and Mal’s French cousins, Julian and Claire, for breakfast at Friday Harbor.

This morning’s breakfast was not at all healthy, but, boy, was it delicious. I had an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on a grilled croissant, shared a pumpkin muffin with frosting with Mal, and drank an iced decaf Americano with a squirt of pumpkin syrup in it. Yea, it was an awesome breakfast.

I really wanted one of “Eric’s Amazing Butt Shrinking Cookies” (they looked like a Seven Layer Bars, but in cookie form), but I decided to pass after my sugar-tastic breakfast. Obviously, I was going off the reservation with my “diet,” but I didn’t need to go totally crazy! Haha!

After breakfast, we visited one of the island’s lighthouses.

After exploring the island, we headed back to the resort to help my mother- and father-in-law get the room ready for the wedding reception later that evening.

The wedding was a ton of fun! Mal and I spent almost the entire time dancing”¦ and practicing our Clean & Jerks. At one point, the DJ played a song that Mal had trouble dancing to, so he said to me: “I can’t dance to this song, but I can Clean & Jerk to it!” Haha! It cracked me up, so, of course, we turned it into a dance move. Hey, we’re dorks, but we have a lot of fun together!

All in all, it was a fabulous few days away! I’m still a little bummed I didn’t get any photos of the bride and groom. I guess we’ll just have to buy a few pics from their wedding photographer!
