After our WOD Sandwich on Saturday morning, Heather, Kelly, and I headed to the Home Depot Center for Day 2 (well, technically, 3) of the CrossFit Games.
We arrived just in time for the Women’s Clean Ladder:
1-rep Clean every 30 seconds with progressively heavier barbells
Athletes will be ranked by the weight of their heaviest successful clean. Partial pounds will be awarded for each additional deadlift completed after they attempt and fail the clean.
Women’s Weights (pounds) – 140, 150, 160, 170, 180, 190, 195, 200, 205, 210, 215, 220, 225, 230, 235.
It was the first time I had seen the women compete, so I kind of geeked-out. I was so excited to see some of the ladies live and in person!
Elisabeth Akinwale ended up winning the Clean Ladder, but check out the video I took of Lindsey Valenzuela, who came in second place. She was so psyched to have completed it. I love her reaction! You can tell she’s so proud of herself. I mean, 235 pounds?!? Amazing!
After the Clean Ladder, the top 36 female athletes moved onto the following event.
While the stadium was being set up for the next event, we boogied over to the GNC suite to hang out and watch the competition. Thanks so much for the invite, Kelly!
We had GREAT seats!
Then, it was time for the Chipper. Check out this workout. I totally want to do it at our box someday. It looks so fun!
For time:
10 Overhead squats (155 / 105 lbs)
10 Box jump overs (24” / 20” box)
10 Fat bar thrusters, (135 / 95 lbs)
10 Power cleans (205 / 125 lbs)
10 Toes to bar
10 Burpee muscle-ups
10 Toes to bar
10 Power cleans (205 / 125 lbs)
10 Fat bar thrusters, (135 / 95 lbs)
10 Box jump overs (24” / 20” box)
10 Overhead squats (155 / 105 lbs)
Initially, Talayna took the lead.
But, then Annie caught up on the Power Cleans.
And then she was first to the Toes to Bar.
Meanwhile, Julie was making some serious progress.
And, eventually, she took the lead.
Julie ended up winning the event””Annie was still on the Box jump overs when she finished. I now know why Julie has been dubbed “The Silent Beast!”
I ended up missing most of the men’s Clean Ladder (I went to get lunch and there were some long lines), but I caught the second heat of the Men’s Chipper.
Daniel Tyminski looking strong!
On the way back through the Chipper, Ben Smith took the lead and won the heat.
Then, it was time for the final heat of the Chipper.
At one point, Matt Chan took the lead.
But, Rich Froning and Jason Khalipa caught up to him on the Box jump overs.
Rich Froning ended up winning the event with Jason Khalipa beating out Matt Chan by just a couple of seconds. Check it out!
After the Games, I headed back to my hotel, speed showered, and then met my old college roommate, Rachel, for a drink and some food. We met at Lucille’s Smokehouse BBQ in Long Beach.
I ordered a glass of wine and some BBQ shrimp. I ate a cheeseburger at the Games, so I wasn’t super hungry, but, hey, I can always eat.
It was so nice to see Rachel. She recently got engaged, so it was fun to meet her fiancé and celebrate with them. Even though it had been a couple of years since we’d seen each other, we picked up right where we left off.
Final day of the CrossFit Games is up next!
