GAHHH!
I think our box is doing Fran next week! I am excited-nervous for it!
If you don’t know what Fran is all about, it’s one of the main benchmark workouts for CrossFit:
Fran
21-15-9
Thrusters (95#, 65#)
Pull-ups
As you can see, Fran is only two exercises, but the combination, coupled with the number of reps and weight, is absolutely brutal, which is why I think our coaches are subtly preparing us for it. Last night, for instance, we did an “air Fran” using a PVC pipe as part of our warm-up (a nice little reminder?), our WOD was “easy”, and our box is closed this weekend. Hmmm? I think our coaches want us to rest up for Fran!
What is it about Fran that makes us CrossFiters so psyched for it!?!
Dinner
After CrossFit, Mal and I quickly showered and got ready (seriously, we were in and out of the house in 20 minutes) and headed to the Union Brewhouse to snag a table. If you get there after it fills up on a Friday night, you’re usually waiting around for a table for awhile. We were really hungry so we boogied to get there!
First item of business: BEER! I went with a Left Hand Fade to Black. After trying the Milk Stout Nitro from Left Hand, I had a feeling I’d like this beer.
The Fade to Black is an AWESOME brew! It had a ton of flavor from the second I tasted it until long after I swallowed it down. Smoky, burnt, espresso-y, even sort of spicy flavors lingered on my tongue. I loved it.
I was in the mood for a good burger last night, so I ordered a cheeseburger with French fries on the side.
A year ago, Mal and I joined the 99 Beer Club at the Union Brewhouse in an attempt to drink 99 of their brews and get a sweet plaque on the wall. In a year, I have (pathetically) only crossed off 16 beers from my card.
At this rate, it’s going to take me YEARS to get a plaque on the wall! I need to step it up!

Haha 16?? You’ve got to work on that!!!
I am not a huge beer fan, i think I am more scared than anything because I grew up a basic budlight girl, and then turned wine-o with age. But we have a really popular brewery here, for a new beer girl, what is something “light” that you would recommend to try and introduce beer back into my life.
What about a Hefeweizen or a wheat beer? Those are generally pretty light.
@Tina: Thanks Tina! I think I will try out Hefeweizen simply because the name sounds fun (I also am “that woman” that picks out wine by how pretty the label is).
@Kindal: Haha! Me too!
Ooh I’m dying to try cross fit! Also whatever that is just behind your burger looks tasty!!! So does your burger!! Yum!
Nothing like a good burger!
How many beers has Mal got crossed off on his? Friday nights are made for burgers (even if mine are all vegan!)
Happy Easter!
I think he has 18. He still has a long way to go too!
I’m so inexperienced with beer- Corona is as ‘wild’ as I go
Co
Come on Tina! You can drink more than that! Lol
Thats brutal! 99 beers
do they have any time limit??
Thankfully, I don’t think there’s a time limit!
I think the excitement is from knowing that it’s super hard and it will kick your butt! I like feeling pushed to the limit in workouts to see what I’m capable of. Usually I under estimate so it feels good to know I can do it. Good luck on Fran and crossing off more beers!
Okay, you need to cross Spaten off your list. Get thyself to a beer store and buy some Optimator. The BEST beer ever. Promise!
Oooh, I will definitely look for it! Thanks for the rec!
Looks like a fun night! I think my husband and I are going out to dinner at Mellow Mushroom tonight. I love their pizza!!
I just can’t like the taste of beer. Plus, the only kind I’d even be able to try is a gluten-free beer and I’ve heard those aren’t good at all.
I’ve never attempted Fran but have always wanted to by the sound of it, as strange as that is. Can’t wait to hear how your second attempt at it goes!!
Haha maybe they are closed for Easter weekend
You are going to have to start doubling up on the beer
I looooove Fran. I miss being able to go super hard at CF now that I’m pregnant, because Fran is the one WOD that is basically just a sprint and it’s super fun. It’s short and extremely intense! And “what’s your Fran time?” is the equivalent of asking “what’s your marathon time?” in CF–EVERYONE knows what Fran is!
I was so proud–right before I got knocked up, I did Fran allllmost Rxed–65# thrusters with just a small band on pull-ups. My post-baby goal is RX Fran in under 7 minutes! One day!
65# is amazing! I did 35# my first time!
GAH! That burger looks SO good! I’m on a 40 day no-meat/no-dairy fast and I want a burger like WHOA!
Dang girl… only 16? Better drink up! Cool concept.
