Dear colitis,
I will win every time.
Hugs and kisses,
Tina
Here’s a funny photo to kick-off your Monday morning!
I love these two guys. They never fail to make me laugh.
The other night, Mal and I were watching TV and relaxing on the couch with Murphy. I left the room for a little bit, and when I came back, I saw Murphy sprawled out in this ridiculous position across Mal’s lap. Mal was so engrossed in whatever show he was watching, so he didn’t notice how comfortable Murphy had made himself. When I brought this to his attention, Mal immediately started cracking up! (The best camera is the camera you have on you.)
Wow. This blog post is quite a bit different than last Monday’s post. What a week.
If you can’t tell, I’m feeling a zillion times better. My intestines have basically done a 180 since last Monday (yay, drugs!), and I’m just hoping to get better and better from now on. With that said, I’ve started to add a little variety to my meals!
Dinner
The other day, I stumbled upon a recipe for Tuna and Couscous Salad that looked delicious and super simple to make. It called for Israeli couscous, which, in my opinion, is so much more fun to eat than regular couscous. Israeli couscous is toasted pasta shaped like little balls. It’s really chewy and super easy to cook. I’m a huge fan.
In the mix: Israeli couscous, roasted broccoli, sliced black olives, canned tuna, garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper.
For dessert, I enjoyed a Paleo Pumpkin-Walnut Muffin with a little bit of Barney Butter spread on it. So good.
Weekly Workouts
As you can probably guess, I’m dying to get back to CrossFit. I miss it so much, but I’m not going to go crazy with the WODs right off the bat. I’m planning to ease myself back into exercise by only allowing myself plenty of rest days (and no double workouts) for the next few weeks. And, of course, I’ll be listening very carefully to my body and how it’s feeling.
- Sunday: Off
- Monday: CrossFit
- Tuesday: Run
- Wednesday: Off
- Thursday: CrossFit
- Friday: Off
- Saturday: CrossFit

Love that note, and glad you’re feeling better! Make colitis your b*tch
@HRCK the Herald: Haha!
So glad you’re feeling better! I’m dying at that picture of Murphy. I think his face is the best part, it’s like “what up? Something wrong with this?”
@Gina @ Running to the Kitchen: LOL! His face is totally the best part of that pic!
WOO HOO!!! so glad to hear everything is getting better! and that photo of murphy made my day! hilarious!

Very happy you’re feeling better. I know how much GI illnesses suck…
Glad you’re starting to feel better! Enjoy crossfit!!
I’m so glad you’re feeling better Tina! The photo is priceless.. gives a whole new meaning to hanging out on a Sunday!
@Angela: Haha!
haha I always love when I’m not paying attention, and my dog gets into some crazy funny position. His facial expression is just like Murphy’s “mom, what are you looking at? this is not weird. at. all.”
So glad you are feeling better! That israeli couscous tuna salad looks great! Definitely going to have to try it
Glad things are looking up! I also prefer Israeli cous cous- texture thing! I’m currently on a quinoa kick!
Ahhhh I’m so glad you are feeling better! I know how frustrating that can be, although I’ve never had it as bad as you where it kept me from exercising at all! Enjoy your first day back at crossfit!
Ha ha oh my gosh! That is exactly how my puppy lays too! It’s even worse though because he is still shaven from being neutered, so he really is ‘naked!’ lol!
The picture of Murphy is hilarious!! So glad that you are feeling better too!
Glad to hear you are on the mend.
Steroids are a beautiful thing when your battling Colitis.
Why is it always male dogs that lay like this? My Griffin does it all the time! My friends started telling me I needed to buy doggie undewear for him to cover him up. LOL. But Biscuit never lays like this! Funny.
So glad you are feeling better!!! And oh to be a dog and so relaxed and care free! No wonder they always look so happy
Pugs are hysterical & will truly do whatever it takes to make themselves comfortable!
I’m so glad you’re feeling better!
Would you mind giving some more information on what Mal is going through for crossfit certification?
@Ashley: He doesn’t start until April, but here’s some info: http://www.crossfit.com/cf-seminars/CertRefs/L1TestFAQ.pdf
Glad to hear you are feeling better! Love that pic and that you were able to capture it
Yay, I’m so glad you are feeling better!! Hope you have an awesome week … enjoy getting back into your workouts!
Happy that your feeling better yay! And, Murphy too cute!
Your love letter to colitis is beautiful. Adios colitis! Glad you are feeling better!
Male dogs love to let it all hang out. My Cooper tends to do the same thing when I’m laying on the floor stretching or doing core work. Thank God for dogs and always providing a good laugh!
Murphey is hilarious. I’ve heard its against dogs nature to lay like on their backs because it makes them so vulnerable, but when they become so comfortable with owners and around humans they go against their nature. He’s definitely pretty vulnerable like that hahaha.
I’m glad you’re feeling better!!!
That israeli couscous looks great!
Congratulations!!! So glad to hear you’re feeling better! Enjoy your return to crossfit!
I looveee Israeli Couscous! Trader joes sells it too! Its so yummy! and omg..my dog sits like that all the time!!!!! too funny

That’s wonderful that you’re feeling like yourself again! Love the picture and Israeli couscous is so yummy!
OMG, Murphy is too funny!! And glad to hear you’re feeling better!
Glad you’re feeling better! I just posted a couscous recipe the other day too! http://nextupwithj.blogspot.com/2012/03/next-up-shrimp-mushroom-couscous.html
So glad you’re feeling better, Tina! I’m sure Murphy helped you quite a bit
So glad you’re feeling better!! Take that, colitis! And that Murphy makes me laugh every time
I’m with you on the Israeli couscous…so good and so fun to eat! I wouldn’t be on board with the tuna or olives though, as I’m not a fan of either one!
Haha, Murphy. My dog does this too, he gets on his back and shows no shame. When he’s asleep his little legs kind of “twitch”, or bounce if you will, so it adds to the cuteness. All Murphy needs is a remote under that arm! He’s almost human-like in that picture, or man-like I should say.
So glad to hear you’re feeling better, Tina! People and pets are sure to keep your spirits high.
So glad to see that you are feeling better!
That picture is SO funny! Thanks for cracking me up. I hope you have a wonderful start to your week
So glad you are starting to feel better
So glad your feeling better! That pic is so funny! Murphy is the cutest!
Not to be a Debby Downer, but as someone whose had colitis for many years, I think you’re pushing yourself too soon. Obv do as you want, but knowing over-exercising puts me in flares, you’re not doing your body any favors by jumping back into cross-fit after a week of some pretty bad sickness. Your body needs time to heal. You’ve only just started to feel better and just because you feel better doesn’t mean your intestines are all healed up! A nice long hike would be better, but again it’s only my opinion after living with this disease for a very long time. Take good care of your body and good luck.
@Patty:
Ditto this. Prednisone can make you feel invincible the first few weeks you’re on it (assuming you’re on a steroid course of drugs to treat the colitis). This isn’t your body recovering, it’s a serious drug suppressing your symptoms. Just be aware you may start to feel worse as you taper, and overexercising and drinking things like iced coffee and beer probably won’t do you any favours.
At the risk of providing even more unsolicited advice
…. if you haven’t already read Crazy, Sexy, Diet, I think you might find it worthwhile. Even though a lot of it is geared toward cancer patients, she does make several references to colitis. AND it’s just plain awesome.
I’m glad that you have a positive attitude about your colitis. That is honestly most of the fight in anything!!!
Yay so glad to hear you’re feeling better!
Love that picture of Murphy – what a nut!
Way to show your colitis who’s boss! SOOOO glad you’re feeling better hun!
I’m trying to make an order on the new balance site, but that code isn’t working! Maybe I’m reading this wrong, but I would think today would be last day to use it, just like a coupon at a store you can use it on the day that it expires…?? Maybe I’m wrong, ugh I hope not! I really want to order some shoes!
Just came across your blog from a Skinny Runner link and your Pug is so cute! I’ve got two and they keep me on my toes! I also have ulcerative colitis and am so glad you’re feeling better. After 6 months of being sick and my doctor blowing me off, I finally found a new GI who switched up my medication and diet. I’m feeling so much better and the best part is I’m running my first marathon next month since this all went down! Have a great weekend!
I found what I was looking for: more Murphy
