• Running Goodies Make Me Feel Better

    February 29, 2012

    Murphy, what is it?!

Let me tell ya, I received a sweeeeeet package from my friends at New Balance this morning. Oooh, yes, I did.

Since New Balance is sponsoring our all-blogger team, Team “Off Balance,” for the upcoming Massachusetts Reach the Beach relay, they wanted to help us with our training by sending us some brand new running gear.

    IMG_0718 (900x675)

And… wow. They totally hooked us up! It was pretty much like Christmas morning here!

    IMG_0721 (900x675)

Check out the running goodies that they sent me!

Even hours after opening this package from New Balance, I’m still smiling from ear-to-ear. It was such a nice surprise and it instantly lifted my spirits with regard to my health. I know this whole colitis thing will pass, and I’ll be up running again soon. Now, I really can’t wait to get out there and get my run on! THANK YOU, New Balance!

If you’re wondering why I linked to all of the gear above, New Balance wants to give you guys a chance to try it out for yourselves with 15% off AND free shipping at shopnewbalance.com. Just use the code NBRTB127DTA4T at checkout. It’s valid from March 1 – March 10, 2012. Happy shopping!

This morning’s breakfast was the same as yesterday’s, but with a carton of coconut water added to the mix. I think I may have drank the coconut water a little too quickly because it definitely didn’t agree with me. Or maybe it was just the food and my intestines are a big bitch? I dunno. Last night, I drank a coconut water a lot more slowly and didn’t have any issues. I also notice that my symptoms are much worse overall in the morning.

Lunch was a toasted gluten-free bagel with sunflower butter and sweet potato wedges on the side. This meal made my stomach happy.

    IMG_0714 (900x675)

Right now, sweet potatoes are my go-to food. I keep cooking big batches of sweet potato wedges to snack on throughout the day, and they don’t really give me any issues. Huge win with sweet potatoes! One day at a time, right?

Wow! Total hook up! I can see why that would make you smile. :)

    Tari February 29, 2012 at 4:28 pm

Can you tell us how you fix the potato wedges. I’ve been wanting to try them but don’t know how to fix them.

    Tina February 29, 2012 at 4:48 pm

Yep! Preheat oven to 400*F. Slice up sweet potatoes, toss in olive oil, shake on some sea salt, and cook in the oven on a baking sheet for 40-45 minutes. I usually toss them around every 10 minutes or so.

kathleen @ the daily crumb February 29, 2012 at 4:29 pm

i’m going to look for the silver lining and say at least your tummy tolerates sweet potatoes… one of the best foods in life, colitis or no colitis!!

    Michelle February 29, 2012 at 4:34 pm

I’m trying to buy those awesome shorts but it’s giving me an error “Invalid coupon code” Any ideas??

    Tina February 29, 2012 at 4:40 pm

Let me check in with New Balance. Sorry!

    Tina February 29, 2012 at 5:04 pm

@Michelle: Just heard back from New Balance, and the code isn’t valid until March 1st, so give it a try tomorrow and it should work! Sorry for the confusion.

    Michelle February 29, 2012 at 5:09 pm

@Tina: Thanks for hooking us up Tina (and NB)!!

    Rachel March 1, 2012 at 9:47 am

I think the code is conflicting with their spring sale so if you buy more than one item you get 15% off but not free shipping (since the spring sale can’t be combined with anything and it’s the default.) To get free shipping you may have to wait until the spring sale ends.

    Tina March 3, 2012 at 1:01 pm

    @Rachel: Try this code NBRTB127DB3CE.

    Jamie @ Don't Forget the Cinnamon February 29, 2012 at 4:55 pm

That is such an awesome package of goodies!!!!!!!!!
And at least sweet potatoes are darn good? That is what I kept telling myself about bananas last week when that was all my virused stomach could handle….

    Tina February 29, 2012 at 4:56 pm

Bananas and I are good friends too! :)

    Roz@weightingfor50 February 29, 2012 at 4:58 pm

WOW!!!! That is quite the “swag score”!!!! Hope you continue to mend, and that you are out using that new gear VERY soon!!! Murphy looks like he’s reporting for duty as “box inspector”. Our cat does that for ANYTHING that is brought into the house, she has to poke her head in and check it out. Funny. Take care Tina.

    Sneakers2Sandals February 29, 2012 at 5:13 pm

    holy moly awesomeness

Lexi @ Cura Personalis Foodie February 29, 2012 at 5:23 pm

Whoa that’s some awesome loot! Glad it brightened your day :)

    Lily February 29, 2012 at 5:28 pm

One day at a time is absolutely right!! So jealous of the lovely package that arrived! Hope you’re feeling better :)

    Melissa February 29, 2012 at 6:09 pm

    Hey Tina!

Have you ever considered donating some of the running stuff you receive to a worthy cause? I realize you probably have to use it for some length of time to be able to post a fair review, but I work with some schools in Tanzania and a lot of the students would love some new clothing/shoes, especially for soccer and netball games. I think it would be a great way to make some of those donations go a little further.

    Tina February 29, 2012 at 6:12 pm

    That’s a great idea! :)

Alyssa @ Fit and Fun in Third February 29, 2012 at 6:34 pm

Ummmm… that’s better than Christmas!!!! Awesome!!! Enjoy!

    Deb @ wiseupslimdown February 29, 2012 at 6:35 pm

Love, love, love sweet potatoes. My favorite way to eat them is just to bake them and eat them cold. When they are cold they taste sweeter to me.

That looks like an Udi gluten free bagel to me. They are my favorites.

    MigraineMe February 29, 2012 at 6:39 pm

Thanks for the discount code! :) And yes, one day at a time is right! And, when one day at a time is too much, I shoot for smaller increments of time, like one part of the day at a time, or an hour at a time!! It makes pain/chronic illness more managable!

    Sarah February 29, 2012 at 7:03 pm

Hi Tina! I read your blog frequently, and as I see you’re struggling right now, I just wanted to let you know that it gets better!!! I was diagnosed with celiac about 4 years ago, and my younger brother was diagnosed with type I diabetes a year after (when he was 19 years old!). Life throws these curveballs at us randomly, and coming from a fellow food lover and weird digestion hater, I know it can be hard. But you just learn to deal with it! I’m sure you’ll be in positive spirits in no time. Good luck with everything!!

    Tina February 29, 2012 at 7:04 pm

    Aww, thank you! :)

    Hilary February 29, 2012 at 7:04 pm

Ummm…yeah. That package is pretty sweet! I know it’d make me smile!

Ann @ Turbo Teacher February 29, 2012 at 7:12 pm

Wow! What an exciting surprise package!!! I have not worked out out in New Balance tennies, but I have heard great things!

    Lisa February 29, 2012 at 7:56 pm

Glad to read you are starting to feel better. I didn’t get a chance to comment yesterday but I also have been diagnosed with colitis and notice when I have a super tough workout or really long run (10+) miles, I get a small flare up. Food only aggravates my stomach if it’s already sensitive, otherwise I’m fine with anything. However,if I am not feeling 100% and I have fatty foods ( even healthy fats) it has an effect on me. I know everyone is different but for me it’s the stress on the body, physical or mental, that causes flare ups.

Good luck and great running gear!

    Kelly @ Vegolosophy February 29, 2012 at 8:18 pm

Those Sweet Potatoes look so yummy!!!!

Jennifer @ Peanut Butter and Peppers February 29, 2012 at 9:14 pm

    What a great package!!!! Enjoy!!

Laura Jane @ Recovering Chocoholic February 29, 2012 at 9:45 pm

Wow, that New Balance package would make me happy as well! I love getting things in the mail. The sweet potatoes look delicious.

Dena @ 40 Fit in the Mitt February 29, 2012 at 9:52 pm

Murphy looks like he thinks he’s getting some goodies in the mail, maybe he’s having flash backs of when he received his doggie treats in the mail! I love his Pug face

    Roxanne @ Little Madam B February 29, 2012 at 9:52 pm

When I first discovered that I love sweet potatoes I roasted some up for my husband to try…he was not a fan. Then one day he tried one of my yam rolls(yam=sweet potato, right??) and suddenly they were the bee’s knees.

I love that you’re still excited about getting back to running! I know a lot of people who would let health issues get in the way of their fitness goals, so it’s great to see that you’re aren’t letting it get you down!!

Cheryl @ Happy is the new healthy February 29, 2012 at 9:56 pm

It’s like CHRISTMAS! I hope you REALLY feel better soon. :)

Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin February 29, 2012 at 10:22 pm

What an awesome package! I’m so glad it made your day better – it sounds like you needed it. :)

Katie @ Talk Less, Say More February 29, 2012 at 10:31 pm

Whoa baby!! Way to hook-it-up New Balance! :)

    Chelsea February 29, 2012 at 10:37 pm

Oh my goodness! I wish I had a hookup like that hah! I’m uber jealous right now.

    Deb @ wiseupslimdown February 29, 2012 at 11:11 pm

Hey Tina- I thought of one other thing re: the colitis from reading your blog. I noticed that you put bananas on your pancakes and bagels etc and occasionally fruit in other foods. Some people have a hard time digesting fruit with other foods and of course there are nutritionists who claim you should always eat fruit by itself due to the enzymes. They believe fruit should be eaten an hour before or 2 hours after a meal otherwise it does not get digested and sits in your stomach and rots. Occasionally if I eat a banana immediately after a meal it does not agree with me. Just something to maybe try and see if it makes a difference.

Amanda @ Simply Southern March 1, 2012 at 6:31 am

That makes me so happy to see! You deserve it! You’ll be up and running in no time!

    Coco March 1, 2012 at 8:11 am

Whoa they really hooked you up! That’s awesome!

    Allison March 1, 2012 at 11:32 am

The code still does not appear to be working. Do you need to buy a minimum of a certain amount?

    Michelle March 1, 2012 at 12:36 pm

@Allison: I am having the same problem. My subtotal is $46 so I was wondering if that isn’t enough to get the deal. I could easily spend more if I need to! :)

    Tina March 1, 2012 at 1:14 pm

@Michelle: @Allison: Sorry, guys! New Balance is looking into it right now.

    Sarah March 2, 2012 at 10:48 am

I’m still getting an invalid code on the New Balance site..and I was just purchasing one thing so it wasn’t because of the spring sale. Is there some sort of restriction on the code?

    Tina March 2, 2012 at 10:55 am

@Sarah: Did you just try it now and have a problem? I updated the code yesterday afternoon. Sorry!

    Sarah March 2, 2012 at 11:30 am

@Tina: Yeah, this is the error it is giving me:

We’re sorry, please correct the following errors below:

Invalid coupon code entered, or order does not qualify for discount

    Tina March 2, 2012 at 11:45 am

@Sarah: Oh, man. Sorry! Try this new code: NBRTB127DTA4T

    Rachel March 2, 2012 at 2:28 pm

Sorry, it still doesn’t seem to be working. Does it not work on sale items or is there a minimum? Maybe I’m just doing something wrong?

    Miriam@Bellaspire March 2, 2012 at 12:14 pm

HOLY Moly!! What a sweet hook up!! I LOVE New Balance and appreciate the discount :) I’m sure that lifted your spirits a little after the rough week you’ve had. Hope you’re feeling well!

    Julie March 3, 2012 at 11:17 am

Hey, I just tried using the code and it’s still not working. Has anyone had any luck with it?

    Tina March 3, 2012 at 1:00 pm

@Julie: Sorry for the confusion. Try this code: NBRTB127DB3CE.

    curlsz March 3, 2012 at 2:56 pm

do you like the new balance gps watch? at REI they are only $100 which is way more affordable than the garmin watches

    Tina March 4, 2012 at 1:18 am

I haven’t had a chance to use it yet since I’ve been sick (colitis flare) all week. I’ll do a review once I give it a try.

    Becca March 5, 2012 at 7:08 pm
