• My Holiday Shopping Is Complete

    December 23, 2011

Guess who was the crazy person at the mall at 7:15 AM this morning finishing her Christmas shopping? That’s right. THIS girl!

Every year, I vow to get my holiday shopping done in advance so I’m not scrambling to find gifts, but I never do and then I end up getting stressed-out about it. One of these years, I’ll learn my lesson.

I woke up bright and early this morning in order to get to the mall as soon as it opened, so I threw together a quick breakfast of sunflower butter and banana slices on a whole wheat Sandwich Thin and took my iced coffee to go with me in the car.

After my time at NuVal on Wednesday afternoon, I attempted to go to the mall, but I drove around for 20 minutes trying to find a parking spot, got frustrated, and just went home. I figured if I went as soon as the mall opened, I wouldn’t have an issue finding a parking spot. At 7:15 this morning, the parking lot was pretty much empty. Sweet.

I spent about 2 hours at the mall, and I got everything on my list, so now I’m officially done with Christmas shopping. Hooray! Now, I just need to wrap it all!

    Another great CrossFit workout!

Last night, our WOD was “Jackie,” which is one of CrossFit’s benchmark workouts. These benchmark workouts are timed and serve as a measure of your performance and how much you’ve improved. They also have girls’ names. Does anyone know why? I Googled the piss out of it, but I couldn’t find a specific reason.

I wasn’t able to do Jackie as prescribed (#45 Thrusters + pull-ups), so I used 25 pounds on the Thrusters and a green band for assisted push-ups. It was still really challenging.

Our skill for the day was kipping pull-ups, which I made some serious progress on. I definitely have the kipping motion down, but my callous-less hands are wussy and just couldn’t take it, so I never got to the pull-up part. I’m actually not sure if I’m strong enough for the pull-up part yet, but I’m getting close. I definitely need to practice if I want to achieve my goal of two unassisted pull-ups by February 1st!

If you haven’t tried Cooking Light’s Lighter Mac & Cheese, you NEED to make it! Holy amazing. Instead of a heavy cheese sauce, it’s made with butternut squash, Greek yogurt, low-fat milk, and some seriously stinky cheese, which gives it a ton of flavor.

I also enjoyed two glass of wine and a second serving of Lighter Mac and Cheese. Yummmm!

    Question of the Day

Do you consider yourself a good gift-giver? What’s the best gift you’ve ever given someone?

Last year, I made personalized gift baskets for everyone. For example, for my brother in law and his girlfriend, it was a movie night in basket (his and hers movies, popcorn, bowls, throw blanket, etc.) and for my sister in law who is huge on “family time”, she got a basket with family friendly board games, a family movie, etc. I had tons of fun making them and picking little things to fill the baskets with!

I’m usually an awful gift giver, I never know what to get anyone. But this year, I made 80% of my gifts which was a lot of fun and everyone seemed to like them…. that or they were being nice. Sucks for them though, they can’t return them!! Muahahaha!

I read this post a few days ago and I’ve been meaning to answer your question :)…this is why “The Girls” WODs are named after a bunch of ladies:

Many have asked, “Why are the workouts named after Girls?” Coach Glassman, the founder and President of CrossFit explained it best. “I want to explain the workout once and then give it a name. I thought that anything that left you flat on your back, looking up at the sky asking ‘what just happened to me?’ deserved a females name. Workouts are just like storms, they wreak havoc on towns.”

So the storm reference, right on point :). See you in class soon!
