I didn’t get my butt out the door until nearly 9:00 this morning, so I forced myself to take water with me on my run. I’m really not a fan of carrying water with me, but the last time I attempted a long run without any water, I almost died.

I own a Fuel Belt and a Hydrapak, which I’ve used at various times in the past. I like them just fine, but I’d prefer not to run with anything, ya know?

I find that the Fuel Belt is less annoying. I wear a Spibelt on all of my long runs, so running with the Fuel Belt isn’t all that much different. Once I get going, I don’t even notice it bouncing around. I thought the Hydrapak would solve all of my problems, but I don’t like having it on my back when I run. It makes me feel hot and sort of restricted.

Long story short, I didn’t chose either option for my run this morning. It was just too hot to deal with them. I ended up filling one of the bottles from my Fuel Belt with water and carrying it for 8 miles. It actually wasn’t as annoying as I thought it would be.

What do you guys do for water on your long runs? Maybe I just need to give the Fuel Belt and Hydrapak another try?

The first mile of my run was pretty slow. My legs felt super tight, so I stopped at Mile 1 to stretch them out. After that, I continued on at a pretty good pace, and I tried to stay just below 9:00/mile.

Around Mile 5, I stopped and munched on some Peach Tea Chomps, which were very delicious. The flavor was quite summery.

The heat really started to get to me around Mile 6, so I lost a little bit of steam, but the final two miles were mostly flat and somewhat downhill, so I picked up the pace to finish strong. I also just really wanted to be done running!

  • Mile 1: 9:09
  • Mile 2: 8:49
  • Mile 3: 8:50
  • Mile 4: 8:46
  • Mile 5: 8:51
  • Mile 6: 8:58
  • Mile 7: 8:44
  • Mile 8: 8:35

Total: 1:10:48

The second I walked in the door of my house, I chugged a huge bottle of water!

Breakfast

Before my run, I fueled up with two pieces of toast with almond butter spread on top.

After my run, I refueled with some cheesy scrambled eggs.

I also mixed up an iced coffee drink with Ensure, soy milk, and vanilla protein powder.

Once I showered and got myself ready, Mal, Murphy, and I visited our local farmers’ market. We’ve heard about it a bunch, but we never had a chance to check it out until today.

It was pretty small, but we were still able to buy lots of goodies.

Mal and I bought a ton of fresh produce and a dozen eggs, which I am totally psyched about. Farm fresh eggs taste so amazing!

Off to run some errands. Hope you’re having a wonderful Saturday!
