Dog Days of Summer

July 5, 2011

Hi, friends! I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July weekend! If you’re just catching up with posts now, here’s a quick recap:

Yesterday was easily one of my favorite days of summer so far. It started with a glorious 10K road race followed by a very relaxing afternoon, which involved lounging by the pool, lots laughter, and plenty of good eatin’.

There were also really adorable smoochy-face dogs to entertain me!

After the race, Mal and I headed back to Elizabeth‘s parents’ house to hang out by the pool and grill out. We brought Murphy with us so he could play with their dog, Clark, who you might remember from this post and video.

Murphy and Clark are like two peas in a pod. There’s a hardcore doggie bromance growing between them.

Nick and Elizabeth cooked up a delicious lunch for us, complete with cheeseburgers, grilled chicken and shrimp, pasta salad (regular and gluten-free), and an amazing heirloom tomato salad that I am now obsessed with.

The tomato salad is just chopped heirloom tomatoes with olive oil, gorgonzola cheese crumbles, and a little salt and pepper. It was so simple, yet soooo delicious. I can’t wait to recreate it at home.

I filled my plate with a cheeseburger, grilled shrimp, pasta salad, and lots of tomato salad.

Dessert was also pretty awesome. Elizabeth made S’mores on a Stick. I loved them so much, I actually made them for a get-together this afternoon. (My easy tutorial is over on Trading Up Downtown!)

After lunch, the dogs eventually tired out and went inside to the AC to cool off. (Check out Clark’s lip again the glass! LOL!)

Murphy was so pooped!

What a day! I was actually pretty tired myself and went to bed at 8:30 PM! Good times!

P.S. Pug lovers: Check out this guard dog!

Your pugs are so adorable!! And that spread looks amazing but those choc-covered marshmallows made my mouth water. Those look like the perfect party food! I’m definitely making those asap.

Holy moly that tomato salad looks amazing. Where do you buy your tomatoes? I haven’t had the best luck this summer on the South Shore. Next try is Scituate Farmer’s Market tomorrow.

Tina July 5, 2011 at 7:21 pm

@Yellaphant: I think Elizabeth buys them at the small farmers’ market on West Broadway in Southie.

buwahahahaahah!! these pugs pictures are hilarious; “bromance” = awesome.
And those marshmallow graham cracker balls look freaking ridiculous. I’d like to live in a land where they replace trees.

Thanks for the pingback to the pug on guard duty.
I see you are a pug lover. I work with two women who adore pugs and I knew they would enjoy today’s post, too.
All the best

That tomato salad sounds yummy! Tomatoes are so tasty on their own that they really don’t need much to bring out their flavour. I even like them just plain with salt and pepper!
