I’m one of those people who gets more done before noon than I do all day. I typically start work by 7:00 AM, so 5 hours later, I’ve made a huge dent in my To Do list for the day. However, when the afternoon rolls around, I just can’t seem to focus. No matter what I do, I can’t get it together”” and this afternoon was no different.

I plowed through my work this morning and then headed to NuVal for a few hours. A couple of turkeys greeted me as I pulled into the parking lot.

Thankfully, it was just a pair of turkeys and not a whole gang of them!

Lunch

I took a packed lunch to eat at NuVal: cucumber slices with sea salt, an arugula salad with tomatoes, feta, and Meyer Lemon Vinaigrette, and a whole wheat pita with sunflower butter and blueberry preserves inside.

At NuVal, I caught up with coworkers and busted out a few blog posts. My focus was strong, and I accomplished a decent amount during my time there. Perhaps an iced coffee by my side helped?

When I got home, my brain felt like mush (major mid-afternoon slump), so I sent a tweet to my Twitter buddies looking for motivation to get my butt in gear. I received a ton of great ideas! Here are some of my favorites:

Miranda Cohoon

MirandaCohoon I set a timer – Do this for so many minutes or start this in so many minutes. It works for me.

Kristy

RunTheLongRoad Give yourself a “done time” for each task. Like, I need to get this done by 4pm, this done by 5pm, etc…

Jessica Wolfe

SSHealthy_Jess leave and go somewhere else if you can that you wont be so distracted. Coffee shops usually do the trick for me.

Melissa

hungryhealthyMJ Make a “got done” list instead of a “to do” one! Then you can see your progress. Totally motivates me!

Debra Bennett

coreharmony Make a list, Prioritize in order of true importance & Follow your list. Just do it (no thinking). Check off each when done!

Red Velvet Life

redvelvetlife Plan a short break! Sounds odd, but when studying for the bar exam, the RL Housewives OC were my 1 hr diversion! Then focus!

Beth Teague

SFBethT say you’ll work for the length of one CD you really like and then take a short break to do something fun.

Ashley

MyVeggieLife Maybe a quick yoga session to calm the mind??

Jenny Houlahan

fithealthfood I log out of twitter, email, and word press and just work on windows live writer or other things that I have to attend to

Brittany

PFitPHealthy I make a to-do list and just force myself to start! Once you dive it, you’ll fly through it all.

djhath

djhath Think Nike – Just Do It. Once you start, you will be immersed to the point you won’t stop.

Lana Wilson

Lanashabit Set a specified amount of time (i.e. 2 hours) then allow yourself 30 minutes of “fun” (i.e. run, snack, tv, etc)

On An Inhale

OnAnInhale In college I went to the library. I just try to get rid of everything around me besides the work I need to focus on.

Lauren Remmes

laurenremmes rewarding myself! i try to focus for small spurts of time. then reward at the end! good luck!
