I’m pretty sure carb-loading before a race involves beer, right? Yep, I think it does.
After wandering around the city for hours and hours, I met Theodora for a couple of beers at The Ginger Man, a laid-back beer bar featuring 66 taps and over 120 bottled beers.
The Ginger Man was totally my type of bar, and hanging out there was just how I wanted to spend my Saturday afternoon: good friend + good beer. Theodora and I spent a solid three hours chatting away and sipping beer.
My beer of choice was a Smuttynose Wheat Wine Ale, which was “a unique hybridization of two well-known beer styles, combining the rich, voluptuous taste of a traditional barleywine with the subtle, tart flavors of an American wheat ale, topped off with a healthy dose of crisp, herbaceous hops.” I love barleywines, so this beer ruled.
After an impromptu Saturday afternoon happy hour, I said goodbye to Theodora and then met Caitlin and her mom for dinner at Bar Basque.
For my entrée, I ordered the Oxtail in Crispy Bread Ravioli, which was served in a red wine reduction with an herb salad on top. It was tasty, but not at all what I expected. When I read ”˜ravioli’ on the menu, I thought pasta raviolis, which this dish was not. Oh, well. I still ate it.
Along with my entrée, I also shared a bunch of side dishes with the table: roasted veggies and grilled potatoes.
For dessert, we each enjoyed a mini salted caramel ice cream cone. It was the perfect ending to the meal.
I just laid out all of my stuff for tomorrow’s half marathon. I feel so unprepared”” and nervous!
Wish me luck!!!
