I really enjoyed spending some quality time with Mal’s grandma. We mostly laid low and caught up, so there were lots of laughs and reminiscing over the past few days. I loved listening to Grandma share her stories from the past, especially those about my husband as a little kid. It sounded like he was quite a handful!
Mal’s sister, Sibylle, and her boyfriend, Coleman, came down from Seattle to visit for the weekend. It was great to catch up with them too!
On Saturday, we helped Grandma sort through her jewelry, which included a Playboy bunny charm necklace! Apparently, Grandpa was a fan of the magazine!
We also sorted through Grandma’s plethora of pearl necklaces. She told us that real pearls feel gritty against your teeth.
Of course, we needed to test this out for ourselves!
The majority of Sunday was devoted to baking Grandma’s famous chocolate chip cookies. (It turns out that her special recipe is just the one on the back of the Nestle Toll House chocolate chip package!)
All I know is that the recipe called for a ton of butter and the cookie batter tasted delicious! I lost track how many spoonfuls I ate!
Mal and I did the majority of the preparation and baking, but Grandma supervised and added her expertise throughout the process.
One of her suggestions was using a stand mixer.
I always just toss my cookie ingredients into a bowl and mix them by hand. The stand mixer really made a difference in the quality of the cookie dough! Now, I want one!!
Grandma also suggested using olive oil to coat the baking sheets. The cookies didn’t stick at all and they spread out nice and evenly.
Sadly, I forgot to snap a photo of the final product, but Grandma’s cookies did not disappoint! In fact, they were pretty much perfect— sweet, soft, crunchy on the edges, and packed with chocolate chips.
Besides Grandma’s cookies, here are the food highlights from the trip:
And Bad Ass Coffee!!
Oh, I almost forgot! Our vehicle for the weekend was 1979 Buick Park Avenue! Mal referred to it as a “battleship.” It was so solid, I never worried about my safety driving around in it!
Mal and I are meeting with our accountant this afternoon. Wish us luck!
