• Where Did Saturday Go?!?

    October 3, 2010

Woah. Where the heck did Saturday go?!? Before it knew it, it was midnight and I was falling asleep on the couch. Blogging just didn’t happen yesterday. Oops!

    Pre-Workout Snack

As soon as Mal and I woke up, we grabbed fuel for our 9-mile run. We shared a pistachio-chocolate chip muffin and an iced coffee from the Ocean Breeze Cafe. Mmm! It was definitely my type of fuel! ;-)

While we ate, we planned a 9-mile loop around Newport.

    IMG_0003.JPG

We headed out toward Ocean Drive.

    IMG_0342.JPG

Passed Fort Adams State Park and Hammersmith Farm.

    IMG_0334.JPG

Then, ended up on Ocean Drive and enjoyed the lovely views.

    IMG_0338.JPG

Gorgeous!! It was one of the prettiest runs I’ve ever done.

We finished the last 3.5 miles along beautiful (and flat!) Bellevue Avenue.

I finished in 1:21:17 (9:01 pace), which was a whole minute faster than my previous 9-mile run in Vermont, and this run was a zillion times more hilly. I definitely took advantage of flat Bellevue Avenue and picked up my pace for the final few miles.

Mal’s recap: 9.5 miles 1:09:18 (7:18 pace).  Good run. Hilly but great views. It was hard to keep negative splits this week. My times fluctuated after mile 5.

    IMG_0006.JPG

    Success! 9 miles!

    IMG_0012.JPG

On my run, I rocked my Fuel Belt! It worked great! It didn’t bounce around at all. I was surprised, actually.

    Breakfast

Mal and I quickly showered and got ready for the day. We were more than ready to eat breakfast.

    IMG_8719.JPG

At the Ocean Breeze Cafe, we started with iced coffees with cream.

I ordered the egg sandwich with Swiss cheese.

    IMG_0016.JPG

Then, Mal and I walked around, shopped, and enjoyed Newport for a few hours.

    _MG_8740.JPG

    And had some fun!

After walking around for awhile, our legs started to get tired, so we stopped by a fun outdoor restaurant with live music to grab a beer.

    IMG_0021.JPG

Of course, I ordered a pumpkin one.

    IMG_0022.JPG

    IMG_0024.JPG

A little while later, Mal’s parents met us for some more shopping and a late lunch.

    IMG_8763.JPG

We ended up at The Landing.

    IMG_0026.JPG

We started with a round of drinks. I went with a glass of Chardonnay. Cheers!!

    IMG_0028.JPG

    We split the spinach-artichoke dip.

    IMG_0030.JPG

    And a bunch of oysters.

    IMG_0031.JPG

    IMG_0032.JPG

On our walk home, Mal and I got distracted by Skee Ball. We play every year that we come to Newport.

    IMG_0033.JPG

Usually, Mal and I are pretty even when it comes to our Skee Ball skills, but Mal kicked my butt! He must have practiced since last year. ;-)

    Dinner

Then, we went back to the condo, watched the Oregon football game, and ate pizza from Firehouse Pizza. I gobbled up three pieces. My appetite was en fuego yesterday!

Gotta boogie! Heading to breakfast now!

I’ll be running the Amica Newport Marathon in 2 weeks, looks like you got a taste of that run with your 9 miler. Glad you had a great weekend.

Glad you two had such a great weekend! I was in Newport last weekend and kept thinking, “I wish I had done my long run down here!” And you were not joking about the G Street hill being insane. I had my first run up that bad boy this week… it is a force to be reckoned with! :)
