I’m weird about money. Unless I’m buying something that I need, like rent or groceries, I don’t like spending it. Ok, well, it’s easier to spend money on someone else or a really good buy!
For instance, I didn’t mind spending $28 on a 60-minute facial at the Catherine Hinds Public Clinic this morning!

For that type of relaxation, it was worth every cent!

On my way home, I stopped by Target to look for the lobster costume for Murphy and a pair of new black workout pants to replace my favorite pair that I’ve worn to death. (I didn’t find the doggie lobster costume at Target. Has anyone seen it at other stores?)

For the past two years, I’ve worn the same black workout pants to exercise, lounge around the house, and run errands around town. I originally bought them to wear as part of my Fitness Specialist “uniform” when I worked at Healthworks back in 2008. I’ve worn these pants at least a couple of times each week ever since. So, when Mal made a comment about their nastiness the other day, I knew they really needed to be replaced.

At Target, I bought a brand new pair of black pants. They were a good buy!
Now that I have new workout pants, my old ones will be donated. Out with the old, in with the new! (FYI: For every reusable bag you bring to Target, you save $0.05 off your bill!)

Lunch
For lunch, I whipped up a quick meal: deli ham and cheddar cheese on a Sandwich Thin with leftover green beans, steamed spinach with vinegar, a Granny Smith apple, and an iced Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Good lunch!

My Pumpkin Spice Latte was not a good buy. Fancy coffee drinks are definitely something that I waste my money on. Sometimes, I just can’t help myself.

In general, do you consider yourself a saver or spender? Do you justify good buys?

I’m a little of both. I buy tons of shoes and love getting biweekly pedicures, but I also save a couple thousand a month so it’s all about balance…
I love new workout clothes, especially at a good deal.
Hint to save money on pumpkin spice lattes:
1) if you don’t already have a registered Starbucks card, get one and register it. (also good so you don’t need to have cash on hand.)
You get free syrups as well as other perks.
2) Order a hot brewed coffee (instead of hot latte) or iced coffee (for iced latte) with room for cream and ask for added pumpkin spice syrup. Then add 2% milk and stir, and while it’s not completely like a latte, it’s very similar and around half the price!!!
I am such a spender it’s ridiculous! I try to only spend $ at Starbucks when I know it’s going to be a late night of work — like today on the way home. And I’m usually okay with spending a bit of money on work out clothes because I know I’ll get every cent out of it. Last time I went to Dick’s Sporting Goods, I found a pair of Nike shorts on sale for $20 (from $30) and when I went back two days later, they were half off of the sale price so I got a price adjustment. I guess sometimes my spending works out in my favor!
@kimberly Harrison: and i totally had a typo in my link in my first post! :/
Sarah from “Peas and Thank You” has a great recipe Pumpkin Spice Latte — http://peasandthankyou.com/2010/09/23/love-in-a-cup/ –you can control the ingredients and save a lot of money.
I saw the lobster costume at PetsMart today.
i’m definitely a saver. i rarely spend money on myself, even little things.
@Anne: Yes, I’ve made it a bunch of times. Delish!
I am definitely a saver! I’d rather see dollar bills in my bank account than spend my hard earned money on frivolous things. Of course, every now and then, I do splurge on an item or two that I really, really want (like a Louis Vuitton bag or a North Face coat). Life’s too short to only have the things you NEED. Sometimes it’s nice to spoil yourself with a special treat.
I am a bit of a spender! But I always make certain the necessary bills are paid before I buy extra items! That being said, I usually buy quality items rather than just trying to get more stuff. In fact, I hate clutter, so I’m always donating old items when I bring new ones in!
I’m neither a saver or a spender. I try and be rational, but I don’t deny myself a fun purchase (i.e. starbucks) every now and then. I buy some new clothes every season and all of that. But I don’t waste money on:
fake nails
highlights or other dye jobs
a lease on an expensive car
lots of takeout
ridiculously priced denim
So, maybe I am a saver?
I have those pants from target, I love them!!
I am totally a spender!! I try to be a saver, and I do have a savings account; however, if I see something good I will buy it!! Usually the majority of my spending is at target…lol!!
I used to splurge for danskin workout pants but now I buy champion brand brand at Target, too! I am def a scrooge/saver!
I love how you are a saver. It’s refreshing to not read about bargain fitness buys, instead of all the stuff I read about lululemon!
Definitely a saver! I freaked out because I spent $175 on dresses a few weeks ago. My mum calmed me down by reminding me that for the $175, I had got 6 new dresses, and that I haven’t bought new clothes all year. So yes, deeply ingrained saver mentality!
Okay, this may be a random comment, but i gotta say, bodypump has been paying off! Your arms are looking really toned in that towel shot! Woorrrrrrk
I am a saver for sure! Unfortunately the rest of my family are spenders.
Speaking of saving, I have a giveaway going on… http://tampabookworm.blogspot.com/2010/10/giveaway.html
I’m a total saver – but its also easier for me because I work at home, so I rarely eat out, I don’t really need to spend a lot on gasoline or work clothes (I log most “hours” at home or in Jamaica, so I have a few pieces that work for any meetings or campus visits/lectures that pop up), etc…. However, sometimes if I’m feeling really bored or antsy I’ll take a $20 out of the atm and head to Target – grab something tasty from the in-store Starbucks and pick myself up some small, cheery things – hello kitty halloween stickers, new nail polish, a pretty patterened water glass, some kind of archer farms snack, etc.. Its all about the little things =)
I used to be such a spender, but with much more financial responsibilities I am trying my best to calm down when it comes to that.
I have those exact pants from Target (with the pink). They are soooo comfy!! They were the only ones I could find that were long enough, too.
im a mini-spender! lol i pay the bills first for sure, but then i tend to spend money on myself and the kids rather than save it.. i should save it!
Ahhh I wish i saw you wanted this costume. I bought it for my Porkie (yorkie-pom mix) and it was a hit at Dogtoberfest. A woman with a mother-in-law in Maine asked me about it and I gave it to her at the end of the day since my dog would never put it on again. Murphy will look ADORABLE in it.
