Sweet & Salty

September 2, 2010

I love my husband. But, this morning, when he told me that he ran 4 miles in 30:22, I sort of hated him. That’s a 7:35 pace! Who is this freak of nature!?! He doesn’t even like running!! Not fair.

IMG_0250.JPG

Mal headed out the door for his run as soon as he woke up, but I dilly-dallied around the house and took Murphy for a walk before I went for my run. I finished in 36:16, which is a 9:04 pace. It’s no 7:35 pace, but it’s pretty good for me! :-D

IMG_0008.JPG

When I returned home, Murphy licked me to death. He loves my salty sweat! ;-)

IMG_0001.JPG

He proceeded to follow me all over the house while I stretched, Tiger Tailed, and rehydrated. He wouldn’t stop licking me!! Murphy is a freak of nature, too! ;-)

IMG_0009.JPG IMG_0016.JPG

Isn’t he sweet? ;-)

Breakfast

For breakfast, I made a Van’s waffle with peanut butter and chia seeds on top.

IMG_0018.JPG

On the side, I had a pink grapefruit.

IMG_0019.JPG

And, of course, iced coffee with soy milk.

IMG_0030.JPG

I’m heading to NuVal later this morning. (Yes, I still work there!) I mostly work from home now, but I go into the office once a week or so. I just haven’t been there in awhile this time. I hope everyone remembers me! ;-)

Question of the Day

What is the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to you?

When a team leader for a project I was working on called one of my old college profs for a reference, apparently he said, “She is the best thing to come out of this program, ever.” I guess it was said about me instead of to me, but it really touched me that he said that!

awwww….love your dog as always. My little puppy turns one this weekend :)

The sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me is that I make their heart and soul smile :)

What is it with dogs?! My bulldog will lick your legs ALL day if you let him–lol!

My 3 chihuahuas do the same thing as Murphy does!!! When I come home from the gym, they act like I am covered in peanut butter!!! :)

The sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me was that I light up a room when I walk into it. I think I about melted into the floor then and there!

That was very sweet of Murphy to lick the salt and sweat off your legs! lol
Mal is FAST, but you’re pretty studly yourself! :)
The sweetest thing anyone’s ever said… Earlier this week, I was upset because, after moving to a new place and starting a PhD program at a new school a couple of weeks ago, I don’t have any real friends and I was feeling a little down about that. My boyfriend said, “Don’t worry. You’re COOL! As soon as everyone gets to know you, they’re ALL going to want to be friends with you!” Awww…

36 is still a great time. I have yet to try a grapefruit that I enjoy. They always taste too sour.

My boyfriend is so fast too! It’s unbelievable. Personally, I think your pace is awesome too! Great run.

I love to doggy licks pictures! My kitty follows me around a lot, too.

Also, I took your morning workout advice yesterday morning, of turning on the light to get me moving, and it totally worked!

ashleigh September 2, 2010 at 11:19 am

36 minutes for you is still awesome! I wish I could run that fast! Someday…

My cats always lick me after I workout too.. It’s so weird!

Something sweet? Sad that I can’t think of a single thing, isn’t it? That’s not entirely true: The Boyfriend said something kinda sweet last night … I just can’t repeat it on a family blog! ;)

And someone else complimented me on my writing. They’re reading my novel manuscript.

Megan (Braise The Roof) September 2, 2010 at 11:26 am

Haha, dogs do love their salt licks!

My boyfriend is a fast runner, too. Whenever we go for a run together I pretty much have to put a leash on him so that he doesn’t sprint too far ahead of me. Or into oncoming traffic. ;)

Our pomchi Peanut can’t get enough of our sweat. When we come home from the gym she whines until she can lick my sweaty forehead. Kind of gross but funny at the same time.

The sweetest thing someone has ever said to me was my mom when she told me she was proud I was her daughter. We had our ups and downs in my teens but she loved me through them and is proud to by my mom and friend. It made me cry :-)

Murphy is so cute. You inspired me to put my dog in my blog. Plus when nobody else is around to take pictures of she makes for a good subject ;)

Great job on the run to both of you!

Keep more of the Murphy photos coming. I can’t get enough of that cute pug :)

What the HELL?! I can’t even run ONE mile at that pace! Sweet Jesus, he is FAST.

Reply

Lauren @ Running Examiner September 2, 2010 at 11:46 am

Ugh, men seem to *always* be faster runners. I attribute it to the fact they don’t have boobs and hips?!

My boyfriend hates – hates – running, yet he’s still pretty fast. I never break a 7:00-min. mile (and I can only sustain that pace for so long…). The last time my boyfriend went running, he ran 6 miles in 39 minutes. Jackass. ;)

Reply

Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) September 2, 2010 at 11:48 am

I do sprints at 7.0 sometimes. That pace is crazy. I couldn’t run one mile at that pace!

Reply

Amber K September 2, 2010 at 12:05 pm

That is insanely fast! But especially to me since I tend to “jog” at 13 min/mile.

The sweetest thing is probably something my husband has said. Although I can’t think of exactly what it is at the moment. He’s always coming up with these random comparisons to things that shouldn’t be romantic, but it is because I know he’s trying! lol

Ramona September 2, 2010 at 12:11 pm

I am in the same boat with you, Tina. I enouraged my husband to train for a 1/2 marathon with me. He hates to run, but has embraced our training fully. He runs so fast that we can’t run together anymore. He is so dedicated to his training that it makes me laugh sometimes!
Also, our dog loves to lick our sweat when we get home from workouts. I think they love the salt!

Jami @ Runner in the Baking September 2, 2010 at 12:24 pm

I get annoyed that Mike can keep up with me and can run a mile faster than me, and he is not a runner period. The only time he’s gone out running in his 32 years of life, is when I ask him to. The first time out he did 2 miles without stopping and kept up with me no problem. I was running 6 miles daily at that point. It isn’t fair!

Mike’s incredibly sweet though. He’s always telling me how much he loves me and how I’ve made him a much better person. Every morning I get a text that says “I love you beautiful” from him.

Dogs are so funny!! My friends dogs love to lick my legs after we go for a run. It tickles!

Reply

ashley September 2, 2010 at 12:39 pm

pugs HAVE to be the funniest breed of dogs–i think it was bred into them to be nutty in a puggy way. my brother’s pug does so many of the same crazy things as murphy. after my brother came home from college after being away for a while–otis licked him for 2 days straight–no breaks!–very puggy.

and mal doesn’t like running?!? ummm…LOL that he’s training for a marathon. he must run so fast to get it over with.

Reply

Heather September 2, 2010 at 12:42 pm

Mal is almost super human, that is such an awesome pace! Way jealous.

The sweetest thing someone ever said to me was actually from a stranger.

I was sitting in traffic, and was looking in the rearview mirror to fix my eye makeup or whatever. It was a nice day out and the windows were open and a guy in the car next to me shouted “don’t worry, you look beautiful the way you are” Totally made my day!

Murphy is so funny! What’s funnier is that my cat does the same thing (to our hands)… a lot. Doesn’t even need to be after a work out… She just loves to lick the salt off. We call it ‘lickery’ or ‘performing the lickery’. I have never known anyone elses cat to do that ?! She’s such a freak ;)

The sweetest thing… One time Bri and I decided to run out for a bite to eat and I said i needed to go put a little make up on before we left and he said ‘why’ ? ‘you look so beautiful already’ awwwwwwwww :D

my boyfriend tells me every day how incredibly polite and patient i am. i feel like i am usually bubbling over with frustration at any given thing, but he takes the time to tell me how impressed he is with how i handle big-ticket annoyances. it’s actually really, really sweet of him!

Reply

My husband and I are the same way when it comes to running. I get excited if my pace is under 9:00 and he comes home with a 22-minute 5K with the last mile under 7 minutes. And our dog does the same thing with the post-workout licking. So weird but I guess I’m used to it.

Reply

Leah September 2, 2010 at 2:14 pm

Aww Murphy is so sweet! He was just trying to help out (lol).

So are you and Mal going to try and run the marathon together? Or do they split up the men and women like the Boston Marathon?

The sweetest thing (generally) that my friends tell me is that they can count on me/trust me to get stuff done and make sure everyone/everything is OK. I’m protective of and care a lot about my friends, so I like knowing that my friends know that they can count on me.

Reply

Tina September 2, 2010 at 2:17 pm

@Leah: He’s a million times faster than me, so we won’t be running together. I’m not sure how the start is organized at the marathon though.

When our son (now 15) was a toddler, he came into our room early in the morning and quietly woke me up (that was our rule – come tell Mom when you get up) and we were whispering to each other so that my husband did not get disturbed. Once he was done talking to me I ruffled his hair and told him I loved him – he went back to his room. My husband quietly said – “You are such a good mother to him” and I instantly started crying – just like I am right now as I type this(13 years later!) . It was said so genuinely that it just tore me up.

I would be super happy if I had your time!

I think the sweetest thing anyone ever said to me was on my last day of student teaching – one of the girls came up to me and said I was the best teacher she’d had because I had taught her AND cared about her. I thought it was cute coming from such a young girl that she distinguished between the two :)

Lisa @ Early Morning Run September 2, 2010 at 9:51 pm

I know what you mean – my hubby runs only a few times a year (and that’s only since I started running) and he went 7 miles on his first run this year! I’m injured and my longest run since the injury has only been 5! It’s definitely frustrating, but I’m excited that he signed up for his first race!

Reply

Emilyeatsclean September 2, 2010 at 10:05 pm

I trained for 16 weeks for my first half marathon and my hubby decided 2 weeks before it that he wanted to run it too. He beat me by 14 minutes! Booooo! Murphy is sooo funny!

it wasn’t exactly “said” but on one of my birthdays my boyfriend woke me up by playing a cd of the song “good morning beautiful”. it was so sweet!

Toast Couture September 2, 2010 at 10:32 pm

My boyfriend just told me the sweetest thing yesterday. We just woke up and he brought me coffee in my favorite mug and said “I had this amazing dream last night. I had fallen in love with my best friend, it was you, and I was so excited to shar everything with you. Then I woke up and realized I was sad because it was just a dream, but I looked over and saw I was waking up with you beside me and I have my dream already!”
Tear-jerker or what!?
