Pictures of You

September 8, 2010

It’s house inspection day!! 8-O I’m nervous. Mal can’t take off work, so I’m going solo this morning. Hopefully, everything makes sense and I know the right questions to ask. Our realtor will be there too, so I’m sure she’ll help get me through it. She knows everything!

Breakfast

For breakfast this morning, I made a “tasting plate” with a bunch of different foods, including red grapes and coconut cashews.

A fresh sliced peach.

And a toasted Zucchini Muffin with Teddie Peanut Butter spread on top.

I love meals like this– just little bites of everything. It keeps it interesting! ;-) I also drank an iced coffee with soy milk with breakfast.

Last night, I spent the majority of the evening going through the stuff from my mom’s house, which included a zillion photo albums. (The ones in the picture below are just those from my mom’s house. I already had about 10 of my favorites at my apartment!)

I’ve always loved taking photos, so I was that gal snapping pictures at every special (and not-so-special) occasion. I have a ton of photos from high school and college. I never took photos of my food, but I think I have blogger in my blood! ;-)

IMG_0011.JPG

All of my photo albums take up a ton of space (and stress-out my husband), but I just can’t part with them. I’ll likely start scanning my favorite photos to save space, but this will take some time. I guess I’ll just have to make room for them until then.

Book Update

Exciting stuff on the book front!

I finished and submitted my second round of edits to my editor yesterday morning. The second round was so much easier than the first. They only took me about a week to complete.

Now that the edits are done, my book goes into manuscript production. I’m not really sure what this means, but it sounds exciting! I also got to see the first draft of my book cover!!! It’s awesome– very Carrots ‘N’ Cake! :-D The book is scheduled to debut next April or May!

Question of the Day

What material thing(s) in your life can’t you part with?

P.S. I’m giving away Peanut Butter Puffins on Trading Up Downtown!

Ha ha… I just talked about this! I seriously have archives- dating back from 8th grade. It’s a little out of control, but it’s “my thing” and I will never give up my photo albums!

no, don’t get rid of your photo albums!
i just read this yesterday, that made me want to run out and print hundreds of pictures so i could make my own albums. http://www.chookooloonks.com/blog/2010/9/6/on-family-photography-and-time-capsules.html

perhaps you should just consolidate them into simple, cohesive albums? if they were all the same shape and size it would be less obtrusive. just an idea.

hope the house inspection goes well! And that’s so great about your second set of edits being complete! Can’t wait to see the book when it comes out next spring:)

I’m the same way with photo albums! I scrap booked for a while, but then I started making digital albums online. They are so easy to make, and then you order them and have a nice hard bound book of your photos that doesn’t take up much space.

Good luck with the inspection, hope all goes well!

That’s awesome about your book!! It’s really coming together! And going through old photo albums is the best. :) I did the same thing last time I was home.

I have SO MANY pictures that I took growing up! And I even took pictures of my food sometimes! I kind of did it just to be strange, though sometimes I really was serious about capturing that moment. :)

Congrats on the book! I can’t wait to read it.

Photo albums and scrap books – I just can’t part with these. Please note: I have the same SMILE photo album as you, filled with old photographs of my parents from before I was born.

I can completely relate wit the pictures thing. I still live at home with my parents and my mom is on a cleaning kick where a few times a week she goes into the attic and takes down the boxes from either my old bedroom or college. She has me sit and go through them and inevitably I hit the pictures. I recently uncovered over 20 packages of pictures that I had developed from when I was in 8th and 9th grade and did not throw out a single photo!! It’s insane but I totally cannot let go. And of course, the highschool memorabilia, still hanging on to that!

I agree, it’s so hard to get rid of pictures! My parents also held onto some of my favorite childhood toys and I can’t imagine throwing them out.

I have a hard time getting rid of books, even though I never re-read them. They’re basically living room decorations, or substitutes for the real ones I don’t care to buy.

You did well to walk away from the first house just because of the water corrosion. The other things are negotiable, should they be revealed in the inspection today. An electrician can install a few grounded outlets (enough to cover electronics and major appliances) relatively cheaply, and the buyer might even be open to replacing the roof on the house if needed. Good luck!

That’s so exciting about your book! Congrats!

I can’t part with certain things from my childhood, like my favourite dolls and blanket. They’re all tucked away in my closet and I never even look at them, but I still can’t get rid of them!

Yay! Exciting! I’m still doing the back and forth edits with my agent, so I can only imagine what a relief you must feel.

I have a hard time parting with books. More than anything else, they feel like they say something about me and I feel so insanely attached to them. My husband hates it because we’ve moved a million times and books are HEAVY!

When I moved in with my boyfriend last year I had to go through my book collection and get rid of a lot of books. It was hard. I love books, I love reading, I’ve collected books my whole life. But we just didn’t have the space and honestly, about half the books were ones I could (somewhat) easily part with.

It’s so hard to part with things. I’m doing a 100 Thing Challenge, in which I keep only 100 personal items. TOUGH…especially since I keep a library in my room.

That breakfast looks delicious. Tasting plates always look so appealing!

I have entirely too many photo albums too. I was the one who was always taking pictures of everything. They take up a bunch of space, but there’s just no way I can get rid of them! I spent entirely too much time scrapbooking them all, what a waste of money if I got rid of them!
