A Good Laugh

September 21, 2010

Good morning!

Did anyone else catch the season premiere of How I Met Your Mother last night? It’s one of my favorite shows on TV right now and it always makes me laugh. Maybe it’s because I can relate to the characters so well? Mal and I sort of act like Lilly and Marshall, and Ted, Robin, and Barney remind me a lot of our friends.

I definitely had a good laugh last night. Mal and I even tried to perfect our High 6!

Other TV shows that crack me up are Ellen (I’m obsessed!), Modern Family, Community, Big Bang Theory, and Jersey Shore– those people are so ridiculous, they’re funny! I love a good laugh!

Breakfast

Ok, so, I’m not the best baker, but sometimes I get it right. My Chocolate Chip Squash Loaf was definitely a winner!

Remember the huge squash that my realtor gave me a couple of weeks ago? Well, it’s been sitting in my kitchen since then, so I finally decided to do something with it. I cooked it up and turned it into a sweat, yummy loaf of bread. Aren’t veggies enjoyed best in baked goods!? ;-)

Chocolate Chip Squash Loaf

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup mashed yellow squash
  • 1 cup spelt flour
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 5 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350*F. Grease loaf pan.
  • Combine all ingredients in large mixing bowl and blend well.
  • Pour batter into loaf pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes, until top is firm and a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Allow loaf to cool for 10 minutes before cutting.

On the side, I had some French vanilla yogurt with chia seeds.

My first piece of Chocolate Chip Squash Loaf was so delicious, I’m debating eating a second piece. It would be so good with the rest of my iced coffee! ;-)

As a foodie, I am sure you have heard about this event already. But if not, here is the link to the “Boston Local Food Festival…it is to promote sustainable locally grown foods (and the best part is that it is free!) http://bostonlocalfoodfestival.com/about-the-festival/about-the-festival/

Hope to see you there!

I think Reno 911 is the funniest show in the world. The actors are so talented, and the script–or lack thereof!–is totally original and clever. Definitely my favorite comedy!

I love the Thursday night line up. Namely, Parks & Rec, The Office, and 30 Rock. I like Modern Family, but rarely catch it. And lately I’ve found reruns of How I Met Your Mother and My Boys quite funny.

But one show that I think ended way too soon was Arrested Development – so funny!!

I’m not much for comedies, though I do thing Modern Family is good. I prefer dramas with a little comedy mixed in (like Castle).

Modern Family and HIMYM are two of my favorites. The IT Crowd is also one of my favorite comedies- it’s Bristish and I think is shown sometimes in the US. It’s hysterical!
