Speed Demon

August 19, 2010

My husband is a speed demon.

IMG_0016.JPG

This evening, he ran 4 miles in 29:11. Um, yea. I hate him. ;-)  Here’s his recap:

4 miles (29:11)

  • Mile 1: 7:33
  • Mile 2: 7:02
  • Mile 3: 7:05
  • Mile 4: 7:30

Lesson learned today: don’t run on an empty stomach. I could feel my stomach grumbling and felt like I had nothing in reserves. I could really feel it on the last mile of the run. Overall, I’m still happy with my time. Worked on my pacing on miles 2 and 3. I was definitely more consistent today.

After running, Mal stretched.

Murphy watched.

And then he tried to help.

Dinner

Today, I was a lazy blogger and didn’t snap photos of my lunch, but I took pics of dinner! ;-)

IMG_0009.JPG

I ate leftover Macaroni and Cheese with Cauliflower on top of a romaine salad with tomatoes, cucumber slices, broccoli, and crumbled feta.

IMG_0006.JPG

For dessert, I enjoyed a coffee bean dark chocolate bar. It was really delicious! :-D

I worked non-stop ALL day long, so I am vegging out for the rest of the night.

G’night!

I can totally relate to this, but I’m not a runner! However, my hubby runs marathons and is super fast, often running 7 minute miles. He did his first marathon in under 3:30… he is a speed demon too!

Your husband can run, holy moly.

Woah! Your husband is fast! My fiance is a lot faster than I am, but I at least have a chance to catch him one day.

I totally understand how you feel. My boyfriend is a natural athlete. I worked my butt off to run a sub-8:00 mile. He jogged out to the track and ran a 6:30 without even thinking about it, and he never runs. Of course he’s 6’4 and alllll legs, so it came at no surprise.

The worst part though is it’s a total waste, he hates running and has no interest in marathons or half marathons, or even a 5k or 10k. Which is crazy because I know with a little training he could definitely run something ridiculous like a 3:00 hour marathon.

I love how you always put your leftovers on top of a salad, such a good idea because I hate leftovers. This makes them fun and easy to enjoy again!

That’s great that you two are working together on this training and that he is being a part of the blog.

And I hope you enjoy vegging! I’m one of those strange people who enjoys all forms of pasta better cold, so that looks delicious (even if you had, in fact, heated it up. I shall pretend it’s cold :P )

My husband barely attempts to run and is still SO much faster than me! Ha, our dogs go crazy when we get on the floor. If we’re on their level, all bets are off!

My cats always “help” me stretch whenever I’m at home. It’s pretty gross though because they always want to lick the salt off of me! Blech! Cat cooties!

so my hubby doesn’t work out and it looks like he’s never missed a day at the gym in his life. and then when we go hiking he sprints up the mountain like he works out all the time, while i struggle the whole way up (and i work out every day!) not fair guys! :)

I would like to trade legs with Mal. K, thanks. I think I’ve had 2 Attune chocolate bars every day since HLS :)

Wow. Slow down, man! It’s so sad that us girls train and train and train and then guys do a run once in a while and leave us behind in the dust. Ah well. :P

Sana August 19, 2010 at 10:18 pm

Your husband is a beast! I feel like most men are faster for SOME unknown reason. Do boobs hold us back? ;)

Wow!!! I am impressed. It’s stories like this that keep me running. It is so inspirational to me that he can run that fast and wants to do it. I’ve been slacking lately and need to get a move on. I will never run 7 minute miles, but I can do 9 and that is fast enough for this girl! :)

Reply

Katherine August 19, 2010 at 11:00 pm

Holy crap! I run 4 miles on a regular basis and I have never run it that fast. Yay for Mal!

Reply

Corinne August 20, 2010 at 10:39 am

NICE JOB MAL!

Curiousity here, I noticed Mal has a purple band on his right wrist. A friend of mine was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and purple bands (modeled after livestrong, you know the type :) ) were personalized for him in an effort to raise money. I am pretty sure purple is the color for pancreatic cancer like pink is for breast cancer. So yes, I am curious as to what the meaning is behind Mal’s purple wrist band! Thanks Tina :)

i used to love doing pilates on the floor mat. when i just had my chow chow, it was easy enough– she’d come over and snuffle me every now and then, but for the most part, she napped through it.

now that i have a PIT BULL, though, i get covered in kisses and licks. he really does not comprehend that floor time is not ALWAYS puppy snuggles time!

Reply

Natasha August 23, 2010 at 3:05 pm

I just love to see that Murphy, like my fur-baby Jaxson, likes to help with stretching after a run! I cannot even think about sitting on the floor to stretch without him mauling me!

…and I love how you include Murphy so much in your posts. He is such an entertaining little devil:)
