Get In My Belly

August 2, 2010

So much good food! Buffalo chicken pizza, donuts… get in my belly!!!

This evening, while I went for a 4-mile power walk, Mal cooked dinner for us. He’s the best! :-D Mal made buffalo chicken pizza with a simple salad on the side.

Muffins That Taste Like Donuts

Have you seen the Muffins That Taste Like Donuts recipe that has been floating around the blog world lately? Well, I did. And, not surprisingly, I needed to make it immediately. Hello, muffins that taste like donuts?!? Yes, please! ;-)

_MG_5333.JPG

Oh, boy. These donut muffins are delicious. But how could anything baked, dipped in butter, and covered in cinnamon and sugar not taste good? I loved ‘em. My husband loved ‘em. He agreed that “they really do taste like donuts.”

_MG_5316.JPG

I also really like that the recipe’s ingredients are fairly basic. I had all of them in my house, so it was easy to whip up a batch… which could potentially be trouble in the future! ;-)

Now that you know how delicious these donut muffins taste, here’s how to not eat them all in one sitting! ;-)

Balanced Eating: Baked Goods

Half the recipe. Cutting the recipe in half means that there are half as many muffins to temp me (and eat). Basically, it’s instant portion control.

Use a mini muffin tin. Mini muffins = fewer calories, but are equally delicious.

Give some away. I asked Mal to give a few muffins to Dave at his softball game tonight. If the muffins are not in the house, I can’t eat them.

Put ‘em away: Out of sight, out of mind. I enjoyed two muffins and then packed the rest away in Tupperware.

Think about something else. Obviously, I could eat an entire batch of donut muffins in one sitting, no problem. But, if I distract myself with an activity, like painting my nails, it’s so much easier to resist the temptation.

Ok, now that you know what to do, go make the donut muffins. You know you want to! ;-)

Good night, friends! :-D

Buffalo chicken pizza, doughnuts in muffin costumes…you’ve got it going on! Excellent tip on using a mini-muffin tray, great way to reduce portions and calories.

Those are some great tips!! It’s so easy to eat an entire batch of anything amazing, but distracting yourself with new nail polish (and a pug) is a great idea. :D

I have seen that recipe so many times in the past month, I’ve been planning on making them and just haven’t gotten around to it yet. This rave review makes me wanna get on that as soon as possible!

I think it is important to figure out why one is so drawn to whatever the food is instead of distracting themselves with another activity. Why does one need the goodness of the food to soothe them? What is under that need to keep eating beyond the bodies signals to stop? What would happen if you just sat with whatever that need was and got to the bottom of it?

I hadn’t seen this recipe before but it sounds fantastic! I always half the recipe and make smaller muffins whenever I bake.. That way they’re the perfect size for a little snack!

Great tips. I think the one that works best for me is to cut the recipe in half. That and give them away. I seriously struggle with will power any more. I can’t have too many sweets even if they’re out of sight. :)

I made something like these a few months ago for a BBQ. The recipe was from the giant Betty Crocker cookbook my mom gave me. Everyone LOVED them. They were a big hit. I put Nutella in the middle of mine so they were like a creamy warm chocolate filled donut…yeah it was beyond good.

Did you substitute any ingredients in the muffin recipe, or make it as is?

Tina August 3, 2010 at 9:43 am

@MB: I used soy milk instead of regular, but followed it otherwise.

Those muffins look soo good! I can’t make them or else I WILL eat the entire batch. Baking for me is not such a good thing…I tend to gorge afterward.

Mm, they look like they’d be so fully on the inside! Putting rubberbands around tupperware is a good idea. :) Thanks for the tip!

Looking at the recipe, shouldn’t they be called muffin-shaped donuts? lol

But those are great tips to not overindulge!

These are awesome tips! I love to bake, but I never want that temptation in the house, so I only bake for people’s birthdays. I’m going to have to put these into action. Thanks, Tina!

I love the last picture in this post (and you know why!) It actually reminds me of a picture I took of me holding my dog’s paw the night that she died. Totally sad, I know. :-)

Your tips are awesome. Thanks for sharing. I actually do the last one a lot.
