30 Going On 23

August 25, 2010

Man, I’m such an old lady sometimes. I totally feel 30-years-old right now. I definitely cannot “hang” like I used to. But, honestly, I think I’m okay with that! ;-)

My evening started off with a lovely tasting event at Starbucks. A bunch of Boston-area bloggers and I were invited to try their new Galápagos San Cristóbal coffee.

The “Galapagos Island” is the first coffee branded as part of the “Starbucks Reserves.” This coffee is sourced from the Galapagos Island (more specifically, the San Cristobal island) and it is the first time that Starbucks has ever sourced coffee from this growing region.

Starbucks only has a small amount of this coffee, so less than 700 Starbucks will sell the new Galápagos San Cristóbal coffee. I guess you could say that it’s a very special coffee! ;-)

For the new “reserves” coffees, Starbucks is featuring a new “pour over” method to brew single cups of coffee. This method gives the coffee a fresh, full-bodied flavor.

I really enjoyed the Galápagos coffee. It was medium bodied with strong cocoa notes. Mmm, very nice. I wonder how it would taste as iced coffee? ;-)

After the Starbucks tasting, I met a bunch of friends at Sidebar in downtown Boston. The night basically went downhill from here! ;-)

And my age quickly dwindled from 30 to 23.

I drank lots of crappy beer.

But, I had a blast with my friends!

We may or may not have done a “Surfer On Acid” shot.

Yes, I embraced my inner 23-year-old tonight.

I did not plan to drink tonight. (But, aren’t those the best nights!?!) To bed I go!!!

You gotta have those nights every once in a while!

& I agree, the most fun nights are the nights when you were going to “take it easy” :)

how do you choose what you’re going to drink when you go out? just depends on your mood? I’m not a huge beer fan…I’ll have a Corona with lime on hot summer nights but otherwise I stick to vodka and soda with lime or wine.

That coffee looks fantastic! I wish my tiny local Starbucks would sell it (but I know they won’t)

And I love the random nights out when you let loose and can act like you’re in college again…I think they’re completely necessary!

I’m just amazed that you were able to blog before going to bed! :) Drink lots of water today and pop some aspirin if you haven’t already.

@Katie Rose: I guess it depends on my mood. But, last night, my friends were drinking cheap beer, so I drank cheap beer.

haha, nice beer is good but it’s not always good to be a beer snob.

Oh, and which pastry did the baristas pair the Galapagos coffee with? Is that cinnamon scone?

I have those feelings sometime! I think I can hang like I was when I was in my 20′s but I realize the next day that that’s not the case. Hope you’re feeling in your 20′s today! :)

Looks like you had a fun night! Sometimes us late twenty-somethings/early 30-somethings need to get out and party like we’re 23 again!

Ahhhh, please go back to the old format (where “read more” was not necessary) soon!!

Hah, Starbucks has a new “pour over” method? I thought that was an old method! I use it every day.

I always find it happens like that. On nights that I get all excited to party and have a good time, it ends up a bust or not as much fun as I anticipated. Then on nights where I think I won’t drink it ends up being a wild party! Good for you! Looks like you had a fun night. Hope you aren’t feeling it too much today!

Did you know that Eric, the bartender that founded the Dirty Sue olive brine for dirty martinis, is also the creator of the Surfer on Acid shot?!

Spontaneous nights are some of the best nights in my opinion. It’s always good to embrace your inner youth once in a while :)

You MUST explain what a “surfer on acid” shot is!!

I’m sure this has been brought up but it would be fabulous if there was an option to read newer/older posts on each of the full read of individual posts, instead of having to go back to the homepage each time you want to read a different post. It makes it hard to catch up when you always have to be clicking back and forth!

You do have a great blog to read, and I’d like to continue!

I’m 27 and there are definitely some nights when I feel like I’m in my 40′s. I peace out and go to BED! But sometimes, you just gotta have fun like you just turned 21!

Sounds like a fun night! But I’ve never heard of a surfer on acid shot–what’s in it?

I had to laugh when I saw the title of this post because I often feel like I am 24 going on 30! What can I say–I just can’t party like I did in college :)

For those of your wondering about the Surfer shot… unless it’s changed or different in Boston the ones I’ve always had are:

Pineapple Juice, Malibu (or other coconut rum) with Jaeger.

Basically, from what I know… you can make an shot “on acid” and that means adding Jaeger. :)

Very interesting… looks like S-bux is getting in on the artisinal coffee trend (including the drip brew!). Would like to try it sometime.
And hey – those nights when you don’t plan on drinking – those ARE the best nights!!

My dad and I have been using those single-cup brewers every day for YEARS!! I LOVE THEM!! Quick and easy.

We’ve been searching high and low for a non-plastic one though. I’m hitting up Starbucks immediately. I must find it for him!
