Me Time

July 24, 2010

I don’t know about you, but if I don’t get enough “me time” in my life, I feel like this:

IMG_0008.JPG

Basically, I’m sluggish and cranky. I love my life (and all of its craziness), but every once in awhile, I need my own time to recharge and relax. Otherwise, I am no fun to be around.

Breakfast

After sleeping in until almost 9:00 (!!) this morning, Mal made us breakfast: egg, bacon, and cheese sandwiches on toasted Sandwich Thins. I don’t usually have meat on my egg sandwiches, but I am so glad that I did this morning. The bacon totally made my sandwich. It was organic and, oh, so good!

With breakfast, I also drank a glass of iced coffee with vanilla soy milk, which I’m sure you’re not surprised to hear! ;-)

IMG_0002.JPG

After breakfast, I went to the gym for a quick workout. I did 45 minutes on the elliptical, while catching up with my celebrity gossip, and then came right home. It wasn’t the toughest workout I’ve ever had, but I’m still glad that I got in some activity for the day.

When I got home, I took a quick shower and then baked a batch of Oatmeal Raisin Bars (minus the raisins) to take to a friend’s birthday barbeque this afternoon. I didn’t have any raisins in the house, so I substituted dried cranberries and blueberries in the recipe. They seemed to do the trick! :-D

Snack

Before heading to the party, I snacked on a peach.

Lunch/Dinner

At my friend’s birthday barbeque, I filled up on veggies and dip. The veggies were fresh from Sunshine Farm and the dressing was Annie’s Green Goddess Dressing. The combination was amazing, and I kept eating and eating and eating. Who knew cauliflower + Goodness Dressing tasted so delicious!?!

_MG_4783.JPG

I pretty much ate half of the cauliflower on the plater myself!

_MG_4781.JPG

I also enjoyed some homemade bruschetta with French bread.

_MG_4780.JPG

_MG_4768.JPG

And drank a beer and ate a piece of watermelon.

_MG_4785.JPG _MG_4804.JPG

When it came time for the “main course,” I filled my plate with a small cheeseburger with a slice of tomato and horseradish mustard, pasta salad, and grilled zucchini and summer squash.

_MG_4813.JPG

I also ate two cupcake tops, but apparently, I never snapped a photo. They were chocolate with vanilla frosting and rainbow sprinkles. Mmm! Cupcakes rule! :-D

After the party, Mal and I headed home to “save” our dog since he spent most of the afternoon in our bedroom just hanging out. We knew Murphy would want to stretch his little pug legs, so we took him to the park.

IMG_4875.JPG

Happy dog!!

IMG_4879.JPG

We met Bella and Grady (and Dave) at the park for some “puppy playtime.”

IMG_4847.JPG

Murphy ran around like crazy.

IMG_4862.JPG

Mid-pug collision.

IMG_4865.JPG

He played with Dad.

IMG_4885.JPG

IMG_4898.JPG

And Mom.

IMG_4833.JPG

IMG_4837.JPG

He also played fetch.

IMG_4893.JPG

And ran around some more.

IMG_4855.JPG

Murphy is now passed out on his bed snoring loudly. He’s totally pooped. I guess the trip to the park was a success! ;-)

I’m spending the night home alone sitting on the couch catching up with my DVR and eating the last of the Peanut Butter Chocolate Blondies. It’s really nice to have some “me time,” especially when it includes reality TV and a blondie!

I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty psyched to be relaxing at home tonight. I need it!

Good night, friends!

Don’t you know bacon makes pretty much anything better? What? You say that’s why I struggle with my weight? ;)

I’m discovering the importance of “me time.” Mine usually involves my computer and a Frappuccino Light at the Bux.

What a fun day :)

Yes, I love some “me” time! I work full time and a wife and mom, so I can’t say it happens enough. I definitely cherish it when the opportunity comes. Although I do love family time, too :)

This post reminded me – I need to make BOTH oatmeal raisin bars and peanut butter chocolate blondies soon!!!

I did the same thing yesterday. I sent my husband to hang out with his family, then volunteered, got a massage, and ordered Indian takeout while watching a horrible movie on Lifetime. It was bliss :)

Cassie @ A Very Busy Mind July 25, 2010 at 9:27 am

Glad you got some me-time, Tina. I was just talking with a coworker the other day about how some people need me-time more than others. Apparently, those people don’t get “energy” from others, but from themselves…and really need the alone time to recharge. I’m definitely one of those people. Sounds kinda kooky, but also makes some sense, huh?

Heather July 25, 2010 at 9:29 am

I tend to put both in as many baked goods as I can..makes them feel..healthy?
