Coffee (and Ice Cream) Date

July 26, 2010

I can almost always eat, but I didn’t have much of an appetite tonight. Well, I did, but not my normal appetite. I just wanted to eat cold, creamy foods, like yogurt and ice cream. Nothing else sounded appealing to me.

Does this happen to anyone else? Any idea why?

Snack

Mid-afternoon, Mal and I took Murphy for a 90-minute walk around our neighborhood. When we returned home, I snacked on a Stonyfield Super Smoothie, which was quite tasty.

Dinner

I wasn’t super hungry when dinner rolled around, but I felt like I “should” eat something. I ended up making a turkey sandwich with Roasted Garlic Mustard and pickle slices on a Sandwich Thin.

After dinner, Mal and I took a stroll to Starbucks for an impromptu coffee date. It was a beautiful evening, so we took advantage of the nice weather.

We both ordered iced soy lattes. He ordered a grande ; I ordered a tall.

IMG_0004.JPG

I ordered my iced latte with decaf espresso. I can’t drink caffeine late in the day because it keeps me up all night long.

Dessert

After about an hour of sitting outside and chatting at Starbucks, we headed home. Mal wanted ice cream, so I joined him for a few several bites. Of course, I had an appetite for Cookies ‘n Cream ice cream! ;-)

Check out the cookies in this baby! Holy yum! :-D

Mal and I are continuing our Jersey Shore marathon tonight. We’re trying to finish Season 1 before Season 2 starts on Thursday night! ;-)

I get cravings for yogurt or a big bowl of cereal around 4-5 everyday. Cold and creamy are perfect for summer!

I didn’t know Stonyfield made ice cream! That looks delicious!

I was like that yesterday, except I wanted nothing but oatmeal. Crazy, huh?

I have been experiencing the exact same thing this summer: I want smoothies, sorbet, frozen fruit, even plain ice cubes. I think it’s the weather. It is so hot unbelievably hot this year. I like to have green monster smoothies for dinner, that way I get in some fruits and veggies!

I thought they were coming onto season 3? I just can’t get behind that show; those kids are soooo overpayed. $30k an episode?! Then again, for that kind of money I’d toss out my dignity, orange myself up and buy and industrial sized bottle of hair gel, too.

lately my appetite has been all over the place – some days i’m starving for meals, others i’m not, and it doesn’t really seem to matter what i’ve eaten or the portions – i think it’s just my body evening itself out over the week, because some meals are much heavier than others. i try to just pay attention and do what she wants, honor the cravings (like having ice cream for dinner) and stop when i’m full!!!

I didn’t know Stonyfield made ice cream! I am a sucker for cookies ‘n cream. :)

I too sometimes get so that I have only an appetite for cooler foods. It usually happens when it’s just so goddarn how out!

I crave a lot of ice cream a few days before my period. Lately, I’ve been trying to preserve my waistline around that time by eating more yogurt then ice cream. :D

Cookies & Cream is my absolute FAVORITE! Yum. I can’t have caffeine after about noon or it keeps me up at night. I love an after dinner stroll – we don’t do it often enough. :)

That is so cool that you can walk to a Starbucks….or anywhere! I can walk to neighbor’s houses but that’s about it. :(

The cookies in that ice cream look fabulous!!

Coffee, icecream, a nice walk and Jersey Shore sounds like the perfect night to me! Especially since that is how “True” Jersey Shore people act in the summer.. Making fun of those crazy people… walking the boardwalk and eating icecream.. or at least that is what I do! :)

Kelly July 26, 2010 at 9:55 pm

I definitely have days where all I want is ice cream, but thats me :)
Sounds like a great night, I love when my husband and I can agree on shows!

Reply

Julie July 26, 2010 at 9:58 pm

I get like that sometimes too. The only things that sound sgood are smoothies or ice cream, and since I’m too lazy to make smoothies I wind up having ice cream.

I could be stuffed to the gills post-buffet and have room for cookies and cream ice cream. I would risk exploding for that kind of treat.

I love ice cream in the summer time, and especially later in the day. Those cookie chunks are amazing! Delicious. I could probably eat the whole tub on my own! Your coffee date sounded so nice — J and I will have to do that soon, it sounds very relaxing!

I have those kinda of cravings when it’s hot out. Maybe you need more calcium? I have not seen Stonyfield ice cream in the stores but I will keep my eye out. That ice cream looked amazing!

I’ve never tried the Stonyfield ice cream but it looks fantastic!
And I totally get weird appetites like that too, especially when the weather gets warmer. A nice cold latte + creamy ice cream sounds ideal to me. ;)

Reply

It’d be to do with the weather, probably? Still, I’d eat frappuccinos from Starbucks at every meal if I could… but they stupid company pulled all their stores out of Canberra. I CRY.

Emily @ The Happy Home July 26, 2010 at 11:16 pm

I totally get texture cravings instead of flavor cravings sometimes. My texture cravings are usually for things that are gooey (like the inside of an underbaked cookie). Your ice cream looks delish! Have you ever tried freezing just a cup of yogurt?

Megan July 26, 2010 at 11:31 pm

I have days like there where all I want are cool, creamy foods and the only thing that will do is just that.

P.S. When you first mentioned an evening coffee date, I thought you were crazy! Glad you went with the decaf. (:

Woah, that ice cream looks insane! So many cookie bits! I guess it’s just the heat getting to you. :S I never really feel hungry, either.

You could be craving cold food because of some imbalance. I know cold food is considered yin, so maybe you’ve been eating too many yang foods? I don’t really know what I’m talking about, but it might be interesting to look into!

I often feel like that, with little-to-no appetite in the evenings. When I did yoga school, we learned that dinner should be the smallest meal of the day (ie. only fruits and nuts, etc.!) for that reason. I don’t stick to that too often though – it’s hard when you’re making meals or eating with others! I think it might have to do with the amount consumed during the day – when I have more snacks throughout the day I’m less hungry at mealtimes. That being said, if I don’t have a dinner that is somewhat substantial, I wake up hungry in the night! There’s no winning…

Tina July 27, 2010 at 8:06 am

I have been struggling with caffeine later in the day. Pregnant, I can only have one serving a day and I hit a serious energy slump mid afternoon. I always want to reach for some caffeine in tea of coffee (or the occasional soda), but then I can’t sleep and am even more exhausted. Drives me mad!

Reply

Joanna July 27, 2010 at 8:06 am

Couldn’t craving cold foods be related to the summer heat? I have been having mad joneses for ice cream lately and I am NOT a big ice cream eater. But I think for me it is just from being so freaking hot in the FL weather all day. There’s nothing better than a cold treat on a hot summer day :)

Laura (B Foxy Fitness) July 27, 2010 at 8:11 am

Coffee dates are the best! Especially when they end with ice cream too! I also crave ice cream like WHOA in the summer. I try and stick to the fro-yo or low-cal varieties, but there’s just something about summer that calls for the cold and creamy :) Gonna have to check out that Stoneyfield–those are some ginormous chunks of cookie!

Reply

Katie July 27, 2010 at 8:11 am

Wow that is alot of cookie chunks in that icecream! I love when there is alot of cookie chunks, sometime icecream brands rip u off!!

Love the coffee date on a nice night, enjoying the weather outside, you guys are so cute!

I have to watch Jersey Shore, Mike and I have been watching Entourage, bought Season 1 , 2 , and 3 on dvd, Just started season 2, its really good!

Have a great day!

My appetite fluctuates throughout the month almost like clockwork! I’m pretty sure it’s hormone related for me! And I just eat based on what it tells me :)
