KO Prime

June 24, 2010

A couple of months ago, Mal and I attended the Taste of the Nation in Boston. We had a wonderful time eating, drinking, and being merry. At the event, we both fell in love with the Sloppy Joes on Cheddar-Baked Bread from KO Prime. (Ok, so maybe we ate like 3 each, but they were that amazing. ;-) )

Anyway, ever since the Taste of the Nation, Mal and I have been determined to enjoy these sandwiches once again, so tonight, we went to KO Prime for their “KO Prime Time” bar menu. (Hey, we’re all about saving money!)

IMG_0008.JPG

Oh, I thought my outfit was fun/cute tonight, so I made sure to snap a pic before we left the house. (Yes, my hair is still sopping wet from the shower. I rarely blow dry it.)

IMG_0006.JPG

At KO Prime, Mal and I started with a couple of cocktails. I ordered The Pear martini, which was Grey Goose la Poire Vodka & White Grape Juice.

IMG_0013.JPG

The cocktail sure sounded (and looked) delicious, but it was much too sweet for my liking. It tasted like it was made with thick syrup instead of juice and vodka. I drank two sips and knew it wasn’t for me. I actually ended up sending it back, which the bartender was not too pleased about. (She actually wasn’t very nice at all. Boo!)

IMG_0012.JPG

I ended up ordering the “Daily Selection of Wine,” which was a Chardonnay for just $5 a glass. I really liked it and end up ordering a second glass later in the evening.

IMG_0019.JPG

As an appetizer, Mal and I shared some KO Chex Mix, which was regular ol’ Chex Mix with a chili spice rub. It was tasty, but nothing special. I kind of wish that I saved my $2.

IMG_0021.JPG

For my entree, I ordered the KO Sloppy Joe, which was just as amazing as I remembered! It was an all-beef sloppy joe with pickle slices on a homemade cheddar bun. I savored each and every bite. It was easily the highlight of the night for me.

IMG_0037.JPG

All and all, my experience at KO Prime was just so-so. I absolutely loved the Sloppy Joe, but I felt like everything on the “KO Prime Time” bar menu was totally overpriced. I guess I was expecting a deal by sitting at the bar, but Mal and I ended up spending quite a lot of money on dinner tonight. Even still, we enjoyed ourselves and had a wonderful date night!

We have The Time Traveler’s Wife on DVD to watch tonight. I’m dying to see it– I loved, loved, loved the book! It’s the only one that I’ve actually cried while reading. I’m off to change into my “movie suit,” eat ice cream, and relax with my hubby and pug.

Good night, folks! :-D

I can’t believe the bartender at such a nice place was rude to you for sending the drink back! That is no good. I’m glad the sloppy joe was as good as you remembered! :)

I’m sure the movie and ice cream on the couch with your favorites will make up for the so-so dinner experience! I leave my house with wet hair 95% of the time. :)

Ugh, servers who are rude for no reason are the worst. I understand if the customer is being rude, that is one thing. But when you are there for a good experience and are being respectful, no need for any attitude!

That sloppy joe sounds like it could be one of the best things ever. I adore sloppy joes, they have always been one of my favorite comfort foods.

Your outfit is very cute. Sorry about the mean bartender- I don’t get why she would care, it’s not like she buys the drinks!!! It’s in her best interest to be nice actually haha

We have a bar around here that serves chex mix at the bar area without the spicy rub. I like it a lot. Anyway, cute outfit and let us know about the movie. I watched When in Rome tonight with my hubby….it was cheesy but in a good way.

yeah, i find that $$$ factor can definitely make an experience so-so. we went to rick bayless’ new restaurant in l.a. the other night and though it was good, i felt like i could get equally good mexican food for a lot less.

It’s a bit strange for a restaurant to to take a normal snack food and add some twist to it and then put it on their menu…:/ Oh well! You looked so cute! Love the outfit :)

Your lucky your hair looks nice when it dries naturally!!! I could get ready so much faster if my hair would cooperate without the blow dryer.
Too bad the bartender wasn’t very nice….poop on her. :)

The Time Traveler’s Wife is one of my favorite books. I cried while reading it too! I was DYING to see the movie last year when it came out. I actually saw it in NH when I was up visiting my best friend. I love Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana and a lot of the story came to life on the screen for me, but I just felt like so much was missing from the book. I guess that’s always the case with books turned into movies. You may like it more if it’s been a while since you read the book if everything isn’t as fresh in your mind. I need to watch the movie again and see what I think now that it’s been a while. Let us know what you think!

I definitely think it’s too bad when servers aren’t nice, but the general rule of thumb is, you shouldn’t send something back if it came as ordered or described. If you order something, and it comes out different or wrong, then you are absolutely 100% right to send it back. If, on the other hand, you order something, and it comes out as it should and you just don’t like it, you should eat the cost – otherwise, they have to, and that’s not really fair if they haven’t done anything wrong!

When service isn’t good I don’t care how good the food is…I don’t want to eat there. But I’m glad you and Mal still had a good time.

I loved both the book and the movie but be prepared for a difference.

And super cute outfit. :)

Your outfit is so cute. You’re lucky that you don’t have to dry/straighten you hair! Sorry to hear about your restaurant experience, especially the rude bartender part. I never understood rude service people, being nice is part of the job!

Was the sloppy joe as tiny as it looked? Was it an appetizer? I could have eaten three of those:) Sorry the bartender was rude…not okay.

emily June 25, 2010 at 12:20 am

Just as a former waitress – when someone sends back something that isn’t made improperly, just something they happen not to like, that usually means the server ends up eating the cost. That in no way excuses rudeness, but it definitely causes some frustration.

Hi Tina,

Didnt know where to leave this but as it’s Cookie Friday, thought I’d recommend Nanas choc chip cookies, that is if you havent of course tried them already (the choc chip is the best flavor). They come in single packs and are vegan and dairy free. As far as cookies go, they are relatively healthy and they taste awesome! I have one every week on Cookie Mondays :)

My bf and I went to KO last month and had a similar experience. Our server was a snot and rolled her eyes at my bf when he asked if they had any “special brews on tap” (his slang for local brews, I don’t know why he doesn’t just say that but she didn’t need to be a jerk about it), we ordered three apps and split them which I think pissed her off more, he had three beers and I had a martini and our bill was more than we usually pay for two dinners and drinks somewhere else. I doubt we’ll ever go back there.
Glad to know we weren’t the only one’s they gave the Pretty Woman treatment to.
