Monday with Murphy

May 10, 2010

It’s been a busy Monday for Murphy and me!

Now that I work from home 4 days a week, Murphy and I spend a lot of time together. I love hanging out with my cutie-pie pug, but he’s the type of dog that always wants to be with you. He constantly follows me around the house and always wants to sit in my lap. It can get a little annoying, but Murphy is so stickin’ cute, I usually don’t mind that much. ;-)

After breakfast, Murphy and I went for a 30-minute walk around the neighborhood, and then I went to Body Pump while he napped in his crate. When I got home, we played with Bone and Egg for a little while, and then it was time to get back to work. While I worked at the dining room table, Murphy chewed and chewed and chewed. Chewing took up most of his morning… like it usually does.

Now Murphy is basically sleeping in my crotch as I work at the coffeetable in the living room. I’m sure it’s comfortable for him, but my hip is starting to hurt!

Before lunch, I decided to dye my hair (via $4.99 Clairol box). I only dye my hair a couple of times a year just to brighten it up. My natural hair color is dark brown, but it gets sort of dull after awhile. Hair dye seems to liven it up.

While I dyed my hair in the bathroom, Murphy sat on the bath mat and stared at me. He was very confused about what I was doing to myself.

Snack

Before starting on lunch, I snacked on a mini Apple Cinnamon Muffin.

Lunch

I tried a yummy new recipe for lunch today. A few weeks ago, I received the Lean & Green Meal Cookbook to review on CNC. While flipping through it, a recipe for Zucchini Fritters immediately caught my attention.

_MG_0727.JPG

In the mix: eggs, egg whites, grated zucchini, onion, onion powder, garlic, salt, and pepper.

_MG_0732.JPG

It was basically an egg pancake with grated zucchini in it. I liked it a lot! :-D

_MG_0736.JPG

I wasn’t sure if the Zucchini Fritter would be filling enough for lunch, so I added some leftover garlicky shrimp couscous with brussels sprouts on the side.

_MG_0741.JPG

After lunch, I wanted something sweet (surprise, surprise!), so I spread peanut butter and caramel sauce on a piece of whole wheat bread. It was awesome.

_MG_0746.JPG

I’m working for a few more hours and then I am heading downtown to take a food writing class. I’m always trying to improve my writing, so I’m definitely looking forward to this course. I’ll let ya know how it goes!

See ya for din! 8-)

P.S. Starbucks is holding daily Happy Hours from now until May 16. Just visit a participating Starbucks between 3 and 5 p.m., and enjoy a half-price Frappuccino. Maybe I’ll get one for dinner? ;-)

Ooh a food writing course – that sounds brilliant! I’d love to do one of them :)
Haha , Murphy leads such a busy life – chew, walk, sleep, annoy – I don’t how he does it!
Have a great afternoon :)

One of my co-workers works at Starbucks on the side and was telling me about their HH specials! I am even more excited since you can ‘create your own’ frap now. Yum. :)

Awe, I think your Murphy and my Nilla are siblings-from-another-mother. Lucky it’s my husband at home most of the day instead of me :D

I made those muffins last night! They turned out beautifully. I can’t stop eating them! haha
A food writing class sounds like it would be so interesting. They have classes on everything these days, it seems like!

Enjoy your writing class! My dog doesn’t leave me alone either since I am home most of the day. He likes to take his snout and try to shove my arms up to pet him. He’s so cute I usually can’t resist, but it makes getting work done a little difficult!

Zucchini is one of those crops that tend to make your cup runneth way over come summer…thanks for providing a new recipe to help deplete the ridiculous amount I’ll be processing soon…hard as it may be to believe, one can have too much chocolate zucchini bread.

Murphy must love having you home so much–he would get lonely during the day!

Reply

Jody May 10, 2010 at 2:43 pm

I have dark hair like yours that can be kind of blah at times and I’ve always wondered if I should try dye to jazz it up a bit. Do your roots eventually show when you dye or is the color so similar that it doesn’t affect you? Thanks! Murphy is such a cutie by the way :)

Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg May 10, 2010 at 2:52 pm

Food writing?! Fun!

I work from home all days of the week but two (when I go teach), so our dogs are super clingy and used to lots of togetherness time too. But that’s why I love ‘em! :-)

Janet (Pantry Bites) May 10, 2010 at 2:52 pm

I have a little jack russell puppy and it really pains me to leave it at home every day when I have to go to work. It must be so bored by itself all day as some days I come home to a bit of a mess in the yard.

Reply

Tina May 10, 2010 at 2:59 pm

@Jody: I do a pretty good job matching the dye to my natural hair color, so the roots aren’t very noticeable. Usually, the ends start to get nasty and fade!

Meghan@traveleatlove May 10, 2010 at 3:07 pm

Is it the BCAE class? I took that and really enjoyed it. I actually may take it again; I need a refresher!
I wish I could dye my own hair, would be much cheaper and easier than making an appt!

aw sweet pup is so cute! I have one who ALWAYS wants to be with me and sometimes it does get annoying when she wedges herself next to me or in between my lap and my laptop!

A food writing class…..that would be my sort of class. I feel as if my writing isn’t brilliant at all so would love to improve it. I hope you enjoy it.
PS. love the pancake!

Hah! I work from home too and have a little terrier who keeps me company all day long as well. I completely understand the utter love and frequent annoyance you have with a little pooch attached to your every move. It’s not even 3pm for me yet, and she’s had her morning run, two potty walks, a bone, a yogurt container, an empty peanut butter jar, two fetch playtimes, and sock-pulling already. Oh, did I mention that I haven’t gotten much work done so far? Of course, I wouldn’t trade her for the world ;)

cellabella May 10, 2010 at 5:21 pm

Oh, and have you ever tried henna to dye your hair? It’s all natural and actually a conditioner, so it’s healthy for your hair. You can find various shades at Whole Foods. And you can buy a box for about 5-6 bucks, not bad!

Our dogs love to follow me around or sleep next to me when I work from home. But they are so darn cute I can’t help but pet them when they beg :-)

Reply

Trish May 10, 2010 at 5:55 pm

My cat is all over me too. She follows me around, gives me the sad eyes so she can sit on my lap. I think it’s worse now that I am working at home. But she’s the best co-worker. I suppose I should be very flattered by all the love. Nobody has ever been so happy to work with me. :-)
