After publishing my breakfast post, I had a sudden urge to go outside for a run. I’m planning to go to Body Pump tonight, so I already had my workout covered for the day, but the beautiful weather was just calling my name. The combination of sunshine + light breeze was perfect for a morning jog. So, I threw on my sneakers, grabbed my Garmin, and headed out for a run. I ran 3 miles in 25:52 (8:37 pace), which was a nice, relaxing run for me.
When I returned from my run, I took Murphy out for a walk. I figured he’d like to enjoy the wonderful weather, too!
We covered 0.65 miles in about 14 minutes.
Lunch
I felt like lunch was all over the place today. I had a little of this and a little of that, but somehow it all worked. In the mix: homemade salad, leftover pita pizza, Siggi’s blueberry yogurt with Raisin Bran, and an orange.

2010 Boston Marathon Runner Profiles
I’m so excited to kickoff this series! I love the Marathon Monday, so what better way to celebrate than profiling its participants, right!?! So, without further ado, here are your runners! (I’ll continue to profile runners from now until April 18th, so if you’d like to be featured, please email me your info.)

- # of marathons: 5 completed; 4th time running Boston

I am running Boston for the third straight year! It is hard to believe. It will actually be my sixth marathon and fourth Boston. More important to me, it is my third marathon since being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. When I was diagnosed, I thought my running career was over, but I have actually improved. I also have become a running coach in this time, and I train runners to complete the Hingham Road Race. It is only 4.6 miles, but for many of my runners, it is their very first race!

Ben
- Age: 26
- Location: Brighton, MA
- # of marathons: I qualified for Boston by running the 2007 Philadelphia Marathon in 2:59:23. I ran Boston in 2008 but collapsed at mile 24 due to dehydration. I woke up under the medical tent and demanded that the EMT’s let me finish, and when I tried to stand up I passed out again. They brought me to the ER. In 2009 I was signed up, but had to defer because I was injured, so I can’t wait to run – and finish in 2010! In between marathons I’ve been running a lot of half marathons (Boston, New York, San Francisco), which I absolutely love.

It has been a special tradition with our family for the past few years with either me or my mom running or both of us! This year both my mom and I will be running, I am so happy she will be running it again after 2 years without her heading to the start with me. We started running together back when I was 16 and she was 50, we never dreamed of doing marathons and were so proud of ourselves when we completed our first 5K. Now 15 years later, we both have run 12 marathons and have qualified for Boston multiple times (after thinking I NEVER could do it!). I am so inspired by my mom, whenever people say they are impressed with how many marathons I have done, I tell them about my mom. I would look like a slacker if I didn’t run marathons, if my 65-year-old mother can do it so can I!
P.S. You have until tonight to enter my Bertolli giveaway!

i LOVE when i get the urge to run – and it’s almost always on a gorgeous day like you just described
nothing wrong with listening to your body and doing what’s best for it!
i’d love for you to post about what you & mal discussed when you had your day of overindulging. you mentioned that after a talk w/him you felt better and had a new mindset & i’d love to know what revelations you had!
Ahh you’re so lucky you got The Urge! My mojo seems to have vanished this past week :s
I can’t wait to hear more!
I love your lunch – random mixes are the best IMHO.
Good idea profiling all the marathoners too, love it
Nice job on the run Tina!! Love running- theres nothing like the feeling you get after a good run. Love this series- Britt totally rocks!!!! Love her blog and her dedication to running.
It’s always good when your body WANTS to run! The weather is calling my name too but I’m stuck at my desk for a few more hours!
Love that you are profiling the marathoners. So inspiring!
The stories of these runners are so inspiring! It makes me want to push myself harder. I don’t think its in the cards for me to run a marathon but maybe I can do a half. Since summer is around the corner, maybe you could write a post on how to get the perfect swim suit or how to avoid a dressing room freak out attack when you try on bathing suits for the first time of the season (hint: self tanner and moisturizer!)
Oh wow I haven’t seen Adrienne since BC Admissions! GOOD LUCK ADRIENNE! I’ll be cheering you and everyone else on near the BC area
I have daily headaches and I have been told to cut out sodium. I really dont even know where to start! A post on low sodium meals/items would be nice.
A post on that new workout “Insanity” would be interesting. My cousin is doing it and raves that it’s the best thing ever, but it looks a bit scary to me!
I love you frugal fashion finds! Post more of those! (Like the cute shoes).
Awesome that you’re making showing who the runners are, their different stories are inspiring!
I love these marathon profiles! It really motivates me to push myself a bit harder and set my goals a little bit higher.
I had plans to go to Body Pump tonight, but it’s SO gorgeous today. I think I’d rather do a free-style strength workout (haven’t done that in a while) plus a short run.
I love that you profiled the marathon runners! How sweet.
Please take some pictures of Murphy’s doggie meals. I think it would be a cute addition to your post.
Today is the perfect day for a spontaneous run. It’s so beautiful out. If I can tear myself away from work before sunset, I plan on enjoying the 80-degree temps.
Ugh, I have the urge to run right now but am stuck working!
What a cool idea to feature people running Boston! I’ve been searching for bloggers who are running so I can look for them on race day!
I love when you have an urge to run! They are usually the best kind!
Wow I love these Boston marathon stories, can’t wait to hear more!
I took my first “long” run today since my IT band injury, and it felt sooooo good! Sometimes there’s nothing like running
Glad you enjoyed your run today too!
Those profiles were really interesting to read, thank you! I’m not a runner myself, so I really admire people (like you) who can stand to run for long periods. The few times I’ve tried, I get so bored… And now I feel really lame!
You are so lucky it’s beautiful there! We had snow this morning. (Montana)
What are your thoughts on congress passing laws on the posting of nutritonal information in resturants? What are your thoughts on the obesity epidemic? Any things you wish to see changed that you think would help? Sorry if this isn’t really your interests. =) I am writing a paper on it and would love some stimulating ideas/discussions!
@Erica: Oh thanks Erica that is so sweet!
Thank you so much Tina for including me in today’s post!
Definitely an honor to be mentioned on your blog.
i have to admit, I never get the urge to run! Bike riding or walking, yes! Guess i just wasn’t meant to be a runner … :/
love the running profiles!!
Wow! Great profiles!! I have never run a race in my life but I hope to run my first 5K this year!
I used to volunteer for the Boston Marathon each year (I worked at Dana-Farber & the Jimmy Fund). I always looked forward to and had so much fun on Marathon Monday! I love the featured runners in your posts!
When it’s sunny and glorious I always have to get out for a run, but I definitely don’t have any motivation right now with rainy, cold and gloomy weather. Enjoy the wonderful weather you are having
I don’t know if you’d be comfy sharing this but I it always helps me to learn about how much people spend on groceries each month. I always feel like I overspend and blame it on a hungry fiance and my desire to eat healthy foods. but i’d be curious as to what your budget is if you feel okay sharing that. Thanks!
@Liz: Post coming TOMORROW!
I’d also love to hear the gist of your talk with Mal about overindulging
I saw on another blog that someone took photos of their kitchen and even gave a tour of their apartment. I think that would be interesting to see on here!
@Crystal: I haven’t done a tour of my current apartment yet, but there are 3 other video tours from my past apartments. Just search for “apartment tour.”
Those are always the best runs!!! Nothing better!
What a nice idea to feature the runners like that. I really want to do the Denver marathon this year but it’s so intimidating to me!!! We’ll see if some blog inspiration can get me to sign up.
These stories are so great! Especially Britt and her Mom! Now I feel like a slacker for not doing it, holy cow!
I like your random lunch! Sometimes randomness just works you know?
Love the profiles, so incredibly inspiring! Thank you for sharing with us.
Being a pug owner myself, I love your posts about Murphy!
Oh, the urge to run! I love that. I look forward to days when I can just drop my pre-planned workouts and run because I want to! I’m training for a half marathon right now and it feels all my running is pre-determined, not because of the urge!
Thank you Tina for featuring me on your website! And thank you for sharing your enthusiasm and support.
I can’t think of any particular topics at the moment, but perhaps you could feature the Boston runners on Mondays since you love Marathon MONDAY so much =]
Relaxing 3-mile? That’s speedy, girl!
I’m a newer visitor to your site, so you may have already talked about some of this stuff but here’s what I’d love to read on a future post:
Have you ever hit a plateau on your weight loss, if so, what did you do to remedy it? Has Mal always been into healthy stuff like you, or did you have to convince him to change his eating habits too? If you were to give advice to someone just starting to run, what would that advice be? What are your favorite “healthy” books, like recipe books, books on dieting, books on healthy eating, books on running etc?
Thanks! You’re truely inspirational!
I love that you’re profiling Boston runners! How fantastic! Good luck to all of them!
What a great tribute to the Boston runners!! Love it!
Okay, here’s my question.
If you were consulting an unhealthy person, and that person only had 20 minutes each day and $20 a week to make changes, what would you recommend?
Awesome idea to focus on some of the marathoners!
I have two things I’d love for you to post on….#1 making a semi-job out of the blogging world (i.e. having fun with it, but still getting paid) #2 eating healthy on a very, very tight budget
