Favorite Day of the Year

Murphy, seriously?!?

IMG_1152.JPG

My dog has a serious peanut butter problem. He looks ridiculous in this photo!

After I made my breakfast this morning (which included peanut butter), I wiped my hands on the towel by our kitchen sink. They must have had a little bit of peanut butter on them because, not a minute later, Murphy started licking the towel for remnants of peanut butter. What a freak. He has serious PB issues.

Snack + Workout

Marie and I woke up bright and early and took Body Pump with “Vicky” this morning. I love that Vicky whizzes through class! Our workout is over and done with before we know it! Today, however, she didn’t give us enough time to switch our weights between triceps and biceps, so I ended up doing 23 pounds on biceps! Let me tell you, my muscles were screaming! 8-O I stopped a few times to rest, but I’m glad that I challenged myself.

Before I headed to the gym, I snacked on a homemade granola bar.

Breakfast

After my workout, I threw together a quickie breakfast: a Joseph’s pita with peanut butter and sliced banana inside.

IMG_1238.JPG

I loaded up on both PB + banana! ;-)

IMG_1235.JPG

I also had a chocolate whey + iced coffee + vanilla soy milk beverage with breakfast.

Calling All Boston Marathon Runners

In the coming weeks, I’d like to write a blog post about those of you who are running the Boston Marathon. If you’d like to participate, please send me a little profile about yourself (age, location, # of marathons, blog link, fundraising info, etc.) and a photo, and I’ll create a blog post devoted to all of the Boston Marathon runners.

If you didn’t know already, Marathon Monday is my absolute favorite day of the year– even more so than Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Years, and my birthday. I’m pretty much obsessed with the day, which I explain here and here. Obviously, running the Boston Marathon is my ultimate dream, but I have walked the course 3 times now with the Jimmy Fund. With my stupid hip, who knows if a marathon is in my future. But, even still, I love everything about Marathon Monday!

Question of the Day

What is your favorite day of the year?

haha! That is so funny about Murphy and the PB on the kitchen towel. I really want to make some homemade granola bars.

My favourite day of the year is christmas – everyone together and happy! – or my birthday – presents! – or just any day where my mum, sister and I are together and are happy :)
LOVE Murphy lol!!

Awww Murph! My dog does the same thing. She always licks my fingers for remnant of food!

I couldn’t agree with you more about Marathon Monday being one of my favorite days of the year (second only now to my daughter’s birthday). Being from southern New Hampshire we never had the day off from school but it became family “skip day” as my father ran Boston well over 20 times. Some of my fondest childhood memories come from standing on Boylston, posters made for my dad and screaming with several thousand people to cheer on these people who worked so hard to finish that race. There is nothing quite like the excitement that literally fills the air the day of the Marathon in the city of Boston. Sadly my father passed away three years ago from cancer, but before he did my sister and I made a promise that one day we would run it for him. This year she is and I couldn’t be more proud of her or excited to be in Boston on that day, standing on Boylston in the exact spot we stood for 20 years with posters in hand to cheer her on. I think you’re right when you say that the Boston Marathon brings out the best in people both running and the spectators in the city.

I love Thanksgiving or Christmas Eve – just because of the nostalgia and my family getting together, too. I also love Memorial Day – it’s like the beginning of summer!

Tami April 1, 2010 at 8:40 am

I’d have to say Columbus Day! It’s right around my birthday and my wedding anniversary and a small country fair that we always go to

the marathon is so exciting and you get the day off!

My favorite day of the year is definitely CHRISTMAS! So boring, I know :) A friend who used to go to BC was just telling me about Marathon Monday though, it sounds so fun!!

Have a great Thursday!!

Britt @ Runnerbelle April 1, 2010 at 8:44 am

Love Marathon Monday! :-) It is such an amazing day, both when I have been as a spectator and as a racer. But you definitely have to experience it as a racer some day! There is nothing quite like the roar of the Wellesley girls, powering through Heartbreak Hill and then being greated by the crazy students of BC who have obviously been drinking all day! But of course the finish line is truly amazing!! I am getting teared up just thinking about it…. (such a dork I am) Its just HUGE…..

I would love to do the Boston Marathon, but I’m not sure another marathon is in my future with my knees. I would love to even be able to run a 1/2! I think my fav day of the year would be 4th of July. I love fireworks. Coming in a close second is my birthday!!

I love Christmas Eve and my birthday. Marathon Monday is great. . . once I am done running! Otherwise, after I ran it the first time, I have always felt kind of sad if I am NOT running it lol! Lets hope for a beautiful, cool day this year.
FYI for anyone interested my Boston Marathon charity raffle ends today! :)

Another favorite day is the 4th of July. It’s one of my favorite holidays because it involves cookouts, fireworks, good food and family. Love it! :D

I think my favorite day of the year is 4th of July because it’s a day off of work + warm weather + bbq-ing.
Do you ever give Murphy a Kong with PB? That keeps them busy for a while, plus if you freeze it can keep them busy even longer.

Ann @ Appalachian Appetites April 1, 2010 at 8:59 am

I think my favorite day would be the first warm sunny day in Spring. Makes me so happy! Hope a few days like that are on the way! And love the pic of Murphy. That’s way homemade dog treats often have PB in them…dogs love it!

Thanksgiving! It’s a time for family, and for recognizing the things the things we’re thankful for, that we should be grateful to have every single day! single day. Plus, the food is fantastic!

Reply

Tricia April 1, 2010 at 9:01 am

Marathon Monday is awesome! I grew up in Plymouth but have lived in VA for 5 years…I ran Boston twice, there is nothing like the crowd support there! My dad grew up in a house along Heartbreak Hill and each time I ran it my family stood in front of that house wearing obnoxiously bright “Go Tricia” shirts that my aunt made….I wish I was running it this year!

Thanksgiving is my favorite day of the year– you get to spend some quality time with family, eat a lot :-) , and there’s no pressure of giving/wrapping/distributing presents like Christmas. My other favorite days are Saturdays during the summer– nothing like kicking back on the porch/patio with a ice cold beverage and watch the day go by…

Melanie April 1, 2010 at 9:04 am
