Welcome Back
Good morning, bloggies!
I skipped the 5:30 Body Pump class this morning, but I did some yoga instead. So, I’m really slacking with the Yoga Challenge this year.
I feel like I have no time, but anyone can fit 20 minutes of yoga into their day, right? I guess I just need to make time for it?
This morning, I did a 20-minute Gentle Hatha Flow session from Yoga Download. It was a nice class to awaken by body from sleep and start my day off on the right foot. The class had a little bit of everything– stretching, strengthening, and balance. My hamstrings and hips were SO tight this morning, so it felt really good to stretch them out. This session was perfect for a yoga newbie; I highly recommend it as a starting point.
How is the Yoga Challenge going for you?
Breakfast
For breakfast, I brought back an old friend: oat bran!
When I first started CNC, I used to eat oat bran all of the time (I love reading old posts), but somehow, it got left out of the usual breakfast rotation. Oat bran is so creamy, delicious, and satisfying– I’m so glad that it’s back!

In the mix:
- 1/2 cup oat bran
- 1/4 cup canned pumpkin
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- Cinnamon
- Raisins
- 2 scoops of Nuttzo

Welcome back, oat bran!

In my iced coffee, I added some hazelnut milk. Unlike hemp or almond milk, the hazelnut milk blended right into my iced coffee– no weird chunkiness. (I’m still on the fence about the whole soy thing, so I’m trying some new milks in my life.)

I was a happy gal after this breakfast!

Question of the Day
What’s your opinion of cell phones at the gym?
P.S. You can win some oat bran over on Trading Up Downtown!

Hazelnut milk?? I so want to try! From working in a gym, I can say that people used to do their entire workouts on the phone! That was annoying. I don’t take mine in when I work out. I like the ‘me’ time.
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine — March 11, 2010 @ 8:06 am
I just tried oat bran for the first time last week and I love the creamy texture! Hazelnut milk sounds yummy, hazelnut flavored things always remind me of Nutella-yum! I’ll admit, I’m guilty of texting on the elliptical, but I hate people who chat while working out!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) — March 11, 2010 @ 8:08 am
I just tried oatbran for the first time last week. I know, it was crazy since I am an oatmeal freak! I absolutely love it. Glad to see it back in your rotation. I know what you mean about yoga. I feel like I just don’t have time for it anymore. I need to make some time for it…it really does such great things for you!
Janna (Just Flourishing) — March 11, 2010 @ 8:11 am
I may do some yoga today as well…instead of a run.
Hm, I think if someone if talking realllly loudly on their cellphone at the gym its sort of annoying. But if they are just texting or being discreet, its okay. I know my boyfriend brings his phone to the gym because, for his job, he always has to be on call and is getting emails/texts constantly.
Chelsea — March 11, 2010 @ 8:11 am
yesterday a girl was on the treadmill and she had her cellphone glued to her ear yapping away the whole time! how annoying! at my gym there is even a sign that says “cellphones in the lobby only please” but so many people text and talk on the machines, its so annoying..i leave my phone in my car because the gym is when i have 100% “me” time!
Rachel — March 11, 2010 @ 8:12 am
No cellphones at the gym. Never!
Susan — March 11, 2010 @ 8:12 am
Ooer, hazelnut milk sounds like it would be divine in iced coffee!! I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for it. I’m a volume eater, so oatbran wins there
I used to be anti cellphones at the gym. Until I met someone who’s on call all the time, and has to bring her phone with her when she works out. I guess it’s okay if you have a good reason. I however DO NOT support loud, personal phone conversations at the gym!!
blubeari — March 11, 2010 @ 8:13 am
I say no talking, but texting is fine… it’s just less intrusive to me.
Food Makes Fun Fuel — March 11, 2010 @ 8:13 am
I don’t mind if people have cell phones with them or make calls in the bathroom or what not. It’s when they’re on the machines that bug me
Freya @ foodfitnessandfreya — March 11, 2010 @ 8:15 am
I’ve never heard of hazelnut milk – sounds interesting!
I don’t have a problem with mobiles at a gym, if they’re used right – I have a problem with mobiled ANYWHERE if people talk really loudly or play crap music off them though
nicole @ making good choices — March 11, 2010 @ 8:17 am
I hate when people talk on phones at the gym. I don’t mind when people text bc it doesn’t make noise. The worst is when someone is in full conversation on a machine. Quick phone calls or phones in the locker room don’t bother me either. As far as yoga I try to get it in 2 to 3 times a week when I can. 20 min of yoga is def worth it!
Kelly — March 11, 2010 @ 8:19 am
Phones don’t bug me at the gym, but I have recently noticed that I have a higher tolerance for things like that than some people. I don’t like to get yelled at so I personally leave my phone in the car or in my bag the gym.
megan — March 11, 2010 @ 8:22 am
I actually don’t care at all if people talk on the phone at the gym. i wouldn’t complain if they were working out next to a friend and talking to them, so why would I care if it’s on a phone instead? I personally don’t bring mine…I just zone out and read or watch tv or something. But if someone else wants to talk on the phone, it doesn’t bother me.
taylor (greens n chocolate) — March 11, 2010 @ 8:25 am
I’ve never had oat bran before…that looks yummy! I don’t really mind cell phones at the gym…everyone is busy and I think it’s great people are squeezing in a workout while they can, even if they have to have their cell for work while doing it.
Maura — March 11, 2010 @ 8:25 am
I never bring my cell phone but thats because its the only time of the day I don’t have it on me (quite sad actually). I bring it in my bag for emergency purposes only but other than that its turned off and stuffed away till I get home. Healthworks “doesn’t allow” them anyway..oh well.
Jennifer — March 11, 2010 @ 8:27 am
I don’t think 20 minutes of yoga is feasible everyday. I already have to make a concentrated effort to squeeze in an hour of cardio/strength training. Squeezing in yoga as well is just a pain in the ass. I try to do it once a week but more than that is tough with long work hours/finding time to cook/the aforementioned cardio/strength exercises/and enjoing the social life and cultural activities of the city.
Angie — March 11, 2010 @ 8:28 am
Hi Tina – Hazelnut milk sounds delicious! Is there a reason you’re still on the fence about soy? Is it the taste, or something more? Just wondering because I love, love, love almond milk..but was considering switching to soy just for protein’s sake.
Amanda — March 11, 2010 @ 8:32 am
Hi! I’m new to CNC and because I read several times a day I’m now trying to incorporate healthier natural foods into my diet. Thanks:) I may have missed it in a past post but why are you “still on the fence about the whole soy thing”? Since I’ve started reading your blog I have started drinking iced coffee with soy vanilla or chocolate milk. I enjoy it soooo much better than my usual hazelnut coffee sweetened with splenda. What is it about soy milk that you are unsure of it? BTW, this morning I made my first bowl of pumpkin oatmeal
Ally @ Sweet & Savory — March 11, 2010 @ 8:32 am
I don’t really mind people talking on their cell phones at the gym…..but all I can think about while their talking, is all of their sweat dripping on the phone…yuck!
Kelly — March 11, 2010 @ 8:33 am
What’s a “gym”? LOL no really I have belonged to at least 5 gyms that I can count off the top of my head. I would think texting, surfing the net, and playing games (say on your smartphone while on a stationary bike) would be ok. I think listening to someone else’s conversation while they are on a bluetooth device — it’s just weird people always talk way too loud when using those things.
Way to go on the Yoga this morning — I have been doing Yoga for so long that it’s really just part of the morning routine — so much so I actually practice is almost complete darkness every morning (roll out of bed onto mat — keeping the lights off so as not to disturb my husband)
Congrats on your bravery — you are always trying “milk” that I would not made out of things I didn’t know you could “milk”
Lindsay @ The Ketchup Diaries — March 11, 2010 @ 8:37 am
I understand having your phone on you if you are expecting a call or if it’s for work purposes, but to BLATANTLY just be having a plain ol’ conversation that could wait until after your workout, it’s annoying. I’ve actually seen people on the elliptical or treadmill, while talking. Not only do the souring folks not want to hear your conversation, but you’re obviously not getting in a very good workout!
Rosie — March 11, 2010 @ 8:40 am
I hate it when people are yakking on their phones at the gym. It’s rude.
Heather (Where's the Beach) — March 11, 2010 @ 8:42 am
Oh that hazelnut milk sounds yummy. I can’t stand it when people yap on the phone at the gym. Either hang up or get off the treadmill ’cause you’re obviously not working that hard if you’re able to chat. I understand keeping the phone near you if you’re expecting some really important call, but don’t sit and gab. Get on and off.
Courtney — March 11, 2010 @ 8:44 am
Yum, did it make it taste like a hazelnut coffee?? Why no cow milk? Out of curiousity.
Can’t stand people on cells at the gym, it is rude to people around you and you are robbing yourself of full concentration on your own workout. If you can’t be away from your phone for 45 minutes it might be time to re-think your priorities.

People who talk loudly though? not cool!
Heather (Heather's Dish) — March 11, 2010 @ 8:52 am
hazelnut milk sounds realllly good…although i doubt it tastes like how i imagine it
i don’t think you should be so hard on yourself about the yoga challenge…maybe it would be better to do it after your book is finished? there’s no reason to drive yourself crazy, that’s not what yoga is about
cell phones at a gym are fine with me, as long as people aren’t obnoxious about it!
Betsy — March 11, 2010 @ 8:54 am
I think texting is okay, but talking is not. My gym has signs everywhere that very bluntly say, “No cellphones!” I’ve never seen anyone talking on their cell while I was working out. I don’t know how you could get an effective workout with a phone glued to your ear. In my opinion, the only reason you would ever need to bring your cell into the workout area with you is if you were expecting an important call or text.
Christina MINDFUL LIVING — March 11, 2010 @ 8:58 am
(1) I also did the yogadownload 20 minute hatha flow this morning- how funny! we were probably flowing at the same time. Im not a yoga expert but also not a newbie- I really liked this it was relaxing yet stretched you out well- balanced-etc. good way to start my morning- i feel energized now!!
(2) love oatbran too! never had it alone though- only mixed into oatmeal- i think the next time i make oatmeal for breakfast ill do oatbran instead!
(3) hmm cell phones should be left in your bag unless you are waiting for a call or text from someone!
John — March 11, 2010 @ 9:01 am
I can tolerate cell phones if they on vibrate. I don’t need to hear all the message and call beeps and tweets, etc.
Shannon — March 11, 2010 @ 9:02 am
I think cell phones at the gym are a no, no, but I do understand that in some instances people need to have them with them (in emergency cases)! I’m new to you blog & I have to say it is great reading all of your tips, info & life! You are definitely on my daily blog read! Plus we visited Boston in December & it is definitely one of my new favorite places to visit! Love seeing your pics!

Phones at the gym are a MAJOR NO NO. I do understand carrying it with you but do NOT talk to your phone on cardio machines. Or I will kill you.
Lauren @ Running Examiner — March 11, 2010 @ 9:05 am
I’ve never even heard of hazelnut milk–it sounds delicious! I’ll have to give it a try.
My opinion of cells phone in the gym is that they should be left in your locker. It’s ridiculously annoying when people carry on conversations while they’re on the treadmill, bike, etc. Not to mention, I really wonder how effectively you’re working out if you’re able to engage in a phone convo =/
Erin H. — March 11, 2010 @ 9:07 am
I strongly dislike people using their cell phones at the gym. At my gym, there is an indoor track that I like to run on and there will be people walking sooooooooo slow while chatting on their phone, which makes it that they weave all over the track and they get in my way. If they are on a machine, while I think its stupid, they aren’t impeding my life as much.
Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday — March 11, 2010 @ 9:09 am
Keep the cell phone off the gym floor!
First off, if you’re on the treadmill while simultaneously chatting away on the phone your RPE is too low. Don’t be a slacker –the gym is for working out and you can chitchat somewhere else.
Second, don’t hog the weight machines by chatting on your phone between sets. It’s rude.
Kelly @ Healthy Living With Kelly — March 11, 2010 @ 9:12 am
Honestly there is nothing that irks me more than when I see people on cardio equipment chatting on their cell phones. I mean REALLY?!? Can’t you leave the cell phone off for 1 hour. Sheesh!
Lauren @ Running Examiner — March 11, 2010 @ 9:19 am
Oh and about the Yoga Challenge (sorry, forgot to address this is my other comment), while 20 minutes doesn’t sound like a lot of time to reserve from your day, it can end up *being* a lot of time! I love, love yoga, but there are days when I cannot feasibly set aside time to do so–especially if I’ve already devoted a good portion of time to running or biking that day.
Sometimes it’s easier to stick to a schedule when you know you have a class to attend. Have you tried a yoga class at your gym? Going to a class once a week might prove to be a great way to achieve your yoga goals. I started practicing bikram two years ago, and the fact it’s in a studio–not my apartment–really motivates me to keep up with my schedule. (I also don’t run or bike on those days).
Andrea @ CanYouStayForDinner.com — March 11, 2010 @ 9:25 am
I personally don’t mind them because I always have my headphones on and am focused on my workout, but I get why others would find them to be rude and annoying. I am really good at tuning out the noise/commotion when I’m in my own zone.
Love oatbran. I used to eat it all the time!! So much more filling, don’t you think?
Amanda @ Cakes and Ale — March 11, 2010 @ 9:25 am

i do not think people should talk on there phones a the gym-annoying
Alyssa Lindsey — March 11, 2010 @ 9:30 am
I get seriously annoyed! I don’t see the point of spending 45 minutes on the treadmill talking on your phone….wouldn’t 15 or 20 minutes of intense exercise be better if you are that busy? Personally, I can barely breathe when I am working out, much less chat! For some reason I get annoyed when it seems like others are half assing it at the gym.
Jessica — March 11, 2010 @ 9:30 am
I have no problem with cell phones at the gym as long as people aren’t loudly yapping away during their workout. Sometimes, you need to be able to be contacted – like when my FIL was ill, I did keep my phone on the treadmill in case someone called to update me. But, just for a friendly chat, i say no way.
Amy — March 11, 2010 @ 9:35 am
I cannot handle cell phones at the gym.
I saw a man taking pictures with his phone once too, and I felt that was a huge no-no.

I think cell phones in the gym are rude, especially the ones who do bluetooth while they are on the machine. It is so annoying to hear someone else’s converstations.
Ruth, Diet Procrastinator — March 11, 2010 @ 9:38 am
Cell phones at the gym usually don’t bother me because it’s noisy when I go anyway. I tune them out with the rest of the noise. If I happen to go during the quiet off hours and someone is having a conversation that I can’t ignore, then it’s annoying!
Allison — March 11, 2010 @ 9:40 am
I understand the need for cellphones sitting on treadmills/bikes/etc…especially if you have kids. However, if you have to make a call…go outside! Once I was at the gym jogging away on a treadmill when this girl…who was on her cell phone in the middle of a conversation…got on the treadmill next to me. She walked and talked for the rest of my run (at least 20 minutes) and I could hear her OVER my headphones. I exercise to get some time to myself and it was so distracting!
Jaclyn@todayslady — March 11, 2010 @ 9:40 am
I absolutely love oat bran!! So fluffy and creamy! I don’t mind if someone is carrying around their cell at the gym but I am not a fan of the people that talk loudly while working out. My workout ends up getting compromised because it’s so distracting!
allie — March 11, 2010 @ 9:40 am
oh i love oat bran!! i went through a serious phase last winter where i ate it every. single. day. with blueberries and PB.
no way cell phones in the gym. the locker room doesn’t bother me if people are respectful and quiet and keep the convo short, but in the gym, i don’t think they should be allowed.
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg — March 11, 2010 @ 9:41 am
Hazelnut milk? Yum!
When I see people talking on their phone at the gym, it doesn’t annoy me as much as it just makes me think, “Why are you even here? If you’re able to talk on the phone when you’re “working out,” you’re obviously not working out that hard!”
Ann @ Appalachian Appetites — March 11, 2010 @ 9:42 am
I’m not doing too great on the Yoga Challenge. Thanks for today’s encouragement! And as for cell phones in the gym…don’t like it. It’s ok if it’s an emergency call, but really? Can you really work out and talk at the same time? If so, I think you need to push the workout a bit harder
Morgan — March 11, 2010 @ 9:43 am
I REALLY dislike cell phones at the gym. I think it’s so rude! You can’t wait an hour to talk?!?!
If you can, could you explain Body Pump? You mention different tracks and numbers of classes, and I don’t really understand what it is! I know it’s a weight lifting class, but what makes it so different and fun?
MelissaNibbles — March 11, 2010 @ 9:43 am
I can’t stand cell phones at the gym or anywhere else for that matter. We didn’t need them this bad 10 years ago so leave them at home. You’re not that important!

I don’t mind cell phones at the gym, unless people are being obnoxious with them. Although I do think it’s a little weird that people feel they have to have them when they are working out! Soy milk and rice milk are good, but not obtrusive in their taste. It seems like hazelnut milk would have a very strong taste – does it?
Bella @ Stilettos on the Streetcar — March 11, 2010 @ 9:44 am
I think using cell phones at the gym is disrespectful to the other people working out. That said, I can tune them out if I must. The thing that drives me really crazy is cell phones in the change room.

I don’t understand people who talk on their cellphone while they’re working out! If you’re on call that’s one thing.. but if you’re just moseying along on the treadmill having a loud personal conversation on your cellphone you’re probably not getting much of a workout are you? Probably should have just met the person on the end for coffee instead of going to the gym!
Tricia — March 11, 2010 @ 9:48 am
Ohhhh cell phones in the gym. I think it’s ridiculous! Like why are you even here? (Maybe it’s because I have a hard time breathing and walking at the same time and I’m jealous of their coordination skills?
But no, cell phones should be banned from all gyms in my opinion.
Emily — March 11, 2010 @ 9:48 am
My favorite breakfast right now is 1/4 c. oat bran with 1/4 c. quick oats and a little agave nectar, topped with a little almond butter. Sometimes topped with some Pacific oat milk for extra oat-y goodness. Usually it makes so much I can’t eat the whole thing, so I’ll bring a little with me to work for a mid-morning snack. Oddly enough, if I load up on oatmeal in the morning I crave less sweets and carbs in the afternoon and evening.
Laura @ GrapeSugar — March 11, 2010 @ 9:49 am
Most of the time I have my headphones on, so I guess it doesn’t bug me, but in general, if I didn’t have music on, I think it would drive me nuts.
Your bowl of Oat Bran looks huge! Is it really a big bowl or just the perspective in the picture. It looks great, and a lot bigger than my little package of oatmeal I have every morning.

I brought my cell phone to the gym when I used to go and now bring it to yoga but I leave it “silent” in my purse. I figure that no one needs me that badly during the 60-90 minutes I’m there and I’ll see what’s going on right after I’m done.
Amy B @ Second City Randomness — March 11, 2010 @ 10:45 am
People with cell phones at the gym are acceptable as long as they’re not being completely obnoxious and loud. Or when they pause the treadmill and just stand on it and say “oh no, I have time to talk” while there are obviously people waiting for you to get off of it… can you tell I’m bitter because that happened to me once?

Have you ever tried yoga at the Baptiste Center? They have studio in Porter Sq and one in Brookline. Your first week is unlimited free classes then you can pay by the class if you like it. I’m hooked and it’s worth every penny since the classes are an hour and a half, it’s HOT yoga, and it’s a serious workout! You sweat like crazy and get very strong since you’re constantly moving, doing planks and even crunches. I’m getting new muscles in my arms, my posture is improving, and it takes away so much stress. Sorry to sound like a commercial–I just never thought I’d be someone who loves yoga and practices regularly–also never knew it could be like a real workout.
Cassie @ A Very Busy Mind — March 11, 2010 @ 10:55 am
Tina, props for doing yoga AT ALL! Your life is so jam-packed; don’t be too hard on yourself if you don’t kick the crap out of every challenge (I know you will, though, because that can-do attitude is likely what got you to where you are today!).
Hmmm cell phones at the gym??? They really don’t bother me, because the music on my mp3 player usually has me totally engrossed in doing my own thing, I don’t even notice other people. If someone were hogging a piece of equipment simply to talk on the phone like someone mentioned above, though, THEN I’d be annoyed!
Dawn — March 11, 2010 @ 10:55 am
I’m kind of shocked by the strong opinions on cell phones at the gym. If there’s a rule, then of course it shouldn’t be flouted, but in the absence of such a rule I don’t see why cell phones can’t be responsible used. While it may be hard to get a good workout while talking on the phone, I figure that’s not my problem or decision — everyone works out in his or her own way. I do think that keeping a ringer/audio alert turned on is unnecessarily rude since they are often loud and/or irritatingly pitched, but a silent alert is no bother to anyone. I’m not bothered by the person beside me having a conversation at a reasonable volume. After all, it’s not a library—there would be no reason to protest if the two people beside me were having a normal-volume conversation with each other. Those people who do talk overly loudly (to others or into their phones) can politely be asked to take it down a notch. If I really want focused “me” time I can wear headphones or earplugs, or work out at home. So, I guess the message to all you cell phone users is, “Pick the treadmill beside me.”
(Incidentally, I don’t use my phone while working out, but primarily because I have about zero coordination.)

Umm… the other day, my pilates instructor interrupted class to answer an “emergency” call. It didn’t sound like an emergency to me, but whatever, I just don’t think that talking on the phone at the gym is appropriate!
Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' — March 11, 2010 @ 10:57 am
Hazelnut milk sounds awesome! I might have to try that when my Almond milk runs out… I gave up soy milk and switched over to almond milk a few years ago, and I’ve never looked back! I wish they would start offering almond milk as an option at Starbucks! I’d be all over that.
Loud talking on cell phones drives me CRAZY at the gym– I have to turn up the volume on my headphones to try to block them out! But I don’t mind emailing or texting on a cell phone…
Kristilyn (My 29th Year) — March 11, 2010 @ 10:58 am
I don’t go to the gym (I like home workouts best), but you have to wonder how much of a workout someone is getting if they’re constantly on their phone? I think the time at the gym should be devoted to your body, not your social life.
As for yoga … I’ve finished my 11th day of yoga today! Some days I’ll get a few flows in, and other days just one, but it feels great. I did a gentle Hatha this morning, too and I loved it. A great way to wake up the body!

I get extremely irritated when people blab endlessly on their cell phones at the gym, at restaurants, or on the bus. To me, it’s the most obnoxious behavior in modern society. Granted, I’m biased because I hate cell phones to begin with. I do not like this trend of everyone being in constant contact with one another, it’s just too much!
I’ve never tried oat bran, oddly enough. Your endorsement of it is getting me curious though…
Dani — March 11, 2010 @ 11:10 am
Hm.. hazelnut milk? I may have to try that
It doesn’t really bother me if someone is talking on their phone at the gym because I usually have my headphones in and am in my own little world anyways. But, if they were super loud and right next to you, I could see how that could get annoying
Caitlin @ Right Foot Forward — March 11, 2010 @ 11:11 am
I am not okay with cell phones at the gym. It’s alright if it’s a quick text or phone call, and fine if it’s in the locker room, but I hate it when people have loud conversations when they are on a machine. Just get your workout in and talk later!
Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) — March 11, 2010 @ 11:19 am
Never heard of hazelnut milk!!! Sounds delicious!!! I do not think people should use cell phones at the gym at all.
Christine @ Grub, sweat and cheers — March 11, 2010 @ 11:19 am
I’m not a fan of phones at the gym. First, what’s so important it can’t wait? And really, are you focussing on your workout, engaging with movement and your body if you’re rabbitting away on the phone to somebody? Don’t think so.
Oh yes, hazelnut milk…must try…can only be amazing.
Di — March 11, 2010 @ 11:21 am
I’d fall off of the elliptical if I tried to text and work out, so I don’t get why people use them! Maybe that’s a personal balance issue though.
To each his own, but if you shouldn’t use the phone…then don’t.
Kate — March 11, 2010 @ 11:26 am
I have never commented on your blog before, but two things got me overly excited and i’ve now lost my ghost reader status!
1. hazelnut milk sounds AMAZING, and i’m incredibly excited to go buy myself some for my coffee! people at work always steal my creamer, so if i bring something that looks too scary for them to try i’m golden!
2. i HATE cell phones at the gym. i think they’re the same as cell phones in the bathroom, inappropriate! and rude!
Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] — March 11, 2010 @ 11:31 am
You should try mixing your rolled oats & oat bran – it’s amazing!
Mallory — March 11, 2010 @ 11:34 am
hazelnut milk??? never even seen or heard of it before!! please… a re-cap on the taste and what you use it for!!!!!!
Tiffany — March 11, 2010 @ 11:35 am
I’ve hated cell phones @ the gym ever since the lady on the elliptical next to me was talking about how she thought her dog had a STD and was naming off boy dogs she thought gave it to her dog. A) Don’t want to hear about that B) Would like her stanky dog to stay away from mine if their paths should ever cross.
If one can’t fit in time during 24 hours to make a call while not at the gym, I think some time management lessions are in place.
Ashley @ grindz — March 11, 2010 @ 11:39 am
Leave them at home! Focus on yourself and working out… ONLY! I find that when I leave my phone in the car I work harder knowing that I don’t have to check it all the time to see if I received a call or text.
Cathy — March 11, 2010 @ 11:42 am
I love my iPhone at the gym. I use it to watch tv or listen to music! Also, it’s a great to use your cell phone to avoid the creepy men that hit on you at the gym. If you look like you are texting or doing something on your phone, I find that they tend to not bother you are much
Tricia Kuchler — March 11, 2010 @ 11:45 am
Pumpkin is the greatest breakfast addition I have found-Love it! I have never had oatbran… now I’m curious as I eat oatmeal daily.
Julie — March 11, 2010 @ 12:06 pm
cell phones at the gym – dislike. No one is that important, I’m sorry.
What is oat bran like? Is it chewy like oatmeal? Does it have a different taste? I’m curious.
Lauren — March 11, 2010 @ 12:09 pm
Wow-people get really annoyed! I can’t believe how many people “hate people” who talk on the phone. 99% of the time I have my earphones in listening to music, but geesh, I can’t believe how much people basically want a zero noise policy at the gym. How is it different than two people talking to each other at the gym, and why do so many care about the “effectiveness” of another person’s workout?
Ana — March 11, 2010 @ 12:11 pm
No cell phone for me. When I am at the gym it is “me” time, I don’t want any distractions.
Yummy looking b-fast
Alison — March 11, 2010 @ 12:11 pm
I bring my cell phone with me to the gym and keep it near me because my daughter is in school I want to be able to be contacted if something were to go wrong. However, I never actually talk on the phone. It doesn’t bother too much when others do it, but I find it humorous when they’re putting more effort into their conversation than into their workout.
Lee — March 11, 2010 @ 12:13 pm
I think that it’s fine to bring your phone in case you are waiting for a call, but I hate when people chat on the phone the entire time they’re working out. It just distracts me.
Rachel Lauren — March 11, 2010 @ 12:20 pm
I love oatbran, I don’t even eat oatmeal anymore because I love oatbran so much, and I eat it every day for breakfast, occasionally dinner too. As for cell phones at the gym, I bring my iPhone in because I use it for music or to watch tv shows. I’m blind without my glasses, so I don’t text, but if I get one I’ll check it. I don’t talk on it while I’m on the floor though, because I like to work hard while I’m there and also don’t want to get my phone gross and sweaty. I don’t care if others are on their phone, as long as they are moving, not just standing on their machine, and if they aren’t really loud. Loud is not acceptable. But a quick and quiet conversation is ok. People talk to people next to them, so how is a quiet phone conversation different?
Trishelle — March 11, 2010 @ 12:22 pm
Hi Tina!
I am so encouraged by your dedication to a healthy life-style, and yet your transparency and honesty about your journey. It means so much to me as a reader!! And that oat bran looks soooo good. Have you ever tried to make cookies with oat bran? It’s delish!
I’ve just recently fallen upon your blog and have been reading it every day for the last week.
I’m personally a bit indifferent about cell phones at the gym, unless someone is working out next to me, talking so loudly that I can hear them over my headphones (especially if it’s a personal conversation). :/ That’s the only time I get annoyed, because it’s distracting.
Hannah — March 11, 2010 @ 12:39 pm
Oat bran is definitely my favourite, but I’ve had to rely on packet oatmeal during these three (and still going) months of travelling. Can’t wait to have it again in Australia, but I can’t get Nuttzo there
Paige — March 11, 2010 @ 12:55 pm
My gym does not allow cell phone usage on the “floor” or in the dressing rooms. I love the rule, because it forces everyone to focus on working out and cuts out distractions! To me, workout time is sacred!
Angela @ A Healthy Fit — March 11, 2010 @ 1:21 pm
People need to leave their cell phones at home or in their locker. I think everyone relies way to much on cell phones. Guess what? People lived forever without them and were just fine. Take some time to de-plug. If you can’t un-plug at the gym, when can you?
I’ve never tried oatbran before. Hmmm, new food to try this month? It’s a possibility!
Heather — March 11, 2010 @ 1:25 pm
I honestly don’t really have an opinion on cell phones at the gym. never really thought about it. My husband has his own business and he takes business calls at the gym and I dont think there is a problem if you are a good multitasker?
hemp jogger — March 11, 2010 @ 1:33 pm
awesome milk! gonna have to try that one.
HATE THEM! leave the cell in your locker, car, wherever, but do NOT chit chat on the machines. that is one of my biggest pet peeves ever EVER. someone just cannot be working out that hard while gabbing away. and we all need a little mental break…use it to de-plug people. enjoy yourself w/o hassles of life creeping in on your sweat session.
Lynn (The Actors Diet) — March 11, 2010 @ 1:43 pm
i love oat bran!!!
i don’t really care what people do with their cell phones – i tend to get in a zone with my headphones so i don’t hear ‘em!
Saralyn — March 11, 2010 @ 2:14 pm
Cell phone in the gym? Fine by me. I’ll be rockin’ out with my headphones on.
Cell phone in Bikram Yoga? BIG yoga foul! This guy’s phone rang during awkward pose…and it was awkward! The teacher was so upset! She may be a tiny yogi, but she is mighty.
Angie (Losing It and Loving It) — March 11, 2010 @ 3:35 pm
Seriously leave the cell phones in the locker! It’s really annoying hearing someone gabbing on the phone while you’re trying to work out. But I can see if you had to have it if something serious was going on and needed it for an emergency otherwise, work hard, enjoy your workout and talk to people later. Of course that’s just my personal opinion *wink*
Can you believe someone’s cell phone rang in spin class one time and she just kept riding while talking, so RUDE! LOL
Annie@stronghealthyfit — March 11, 2010 @ 3:45 pm
I did a 20-minute yoga download this morning too! I did the Dave Farmar Power Flow. It totally helped me get through a really hectic crazy day! I didn’t have time to go running AND do yoga so I decided on the yoga
Cynthia (It All Changes) — March 11, 2010 @ 6:12 pm
I take mine to the gym so that Hunni can call me if he needs me. But my opinion is if you are able to text or talk on the cell you really aren’t getting a good workout. I try to only use it if it’s an emergency or it can wait until after my workout.
Suzanne — March 11, 2010 @ 7:02 pm
I never brought my phone to a workout until my ipod was stolen. Now as my only source of running tunes, its a must. However, its incredibly annoying!! I always get a call or a text while i’m there, and it totally disrupts my flow. I wish I could go back to the days of my trusty ipod
Lisa — March 11, 2010 @ 7:21 pm
I HATE CELL PHONES AT THE GYM!!!! GO OUTSIDE AND TALK ALL YOU WANT!!!!
Carolyn @coolbeans — March 11, 2010 @ 7:32 pm
I’ve never had oat bran! I must try it since I’ve seen rave reviews on many blogs!
I hate cell phones in gyms. I have an extremely difficult time getting my brain to shut off, so once I get in that groove I hate it being interrupted by having to listen to someone’s weekend plans or boyfriend troubles. I go to the gym precisely to get away from that sort of stuff! Fortunately, my gym has a no cell phone policy so these incidents are few and far between.

I am not a fan of soy for several reasons. Have you tried oat milk? Delicious! Of all the different dairy alternatives, almond milk is my favorite!
