Up And At ‘Em

March 4, 2010

Waking up at 4:45 AM was so painful! Ugh. :-? If I hadn’t told Marie that I would go to Body Pump with her this morning, I would have definitely slept in. I guess having a gym buddy really works, huh?

Once I got moving, this morning’s class was great! The instructor reminded me of Vicky from The Real Housewives of Orange County with her frequent Wahoo!!! She sounded just like her!

On the chest track this morning, I dropped my weight by 5 pounds. Last class, I realized that a wider grip on the bar made it much more challenging because the weight was focused more on the chest muscles than distributed between the chest, shoulders, and triceps. With the wider grip, I definitely felt it! I even struggled with the push-ups at the end of the track and ended up doing most of them on my knees. My chest muscles felt like Jello! Love that! :-D

Even though it was tough motivating myself to get to Body Pump this morning, I was so happy that I went! I just need to remember how I felt after the class the next time I struggle to get out of bed.

Snack

Before heading to the gym, I snacked on a couple of Pumped-Up Pumpkin Cookies. I wasn’t hungry, but I figured that I needed some fuel for Body Pump.

Breakfast

After Body Pump, I immediately poured myself a glass of iced coffee with hemp + soy milk. After a tough workout, it tasted so good when it hit my lips! :-D

I took Murphy for a walk and showered before I had time to make breakfast, so I was famished by the time I whipped up some oatmeal. And, let me tell you, I went heavy on the ingredients this morning!

IMG_6667.JPG

In the mix:

  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 1/4 cup spelt flakes
  • 1/4 cup Galaxy Granola
  • 1/4 vanilla hemp milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/3 cup canned pumpkin
  • 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
  • Cinnamon
  • Vanilla extract
  • 2 scoops of peanut butter

IMG_6669.JPG

I loved all of the different textures in my oats this morning– chewy chia seeds, crunchy granola, creamy peanut butter. It was fun!

Yuuummmm.

With my morning workout over and done with, I’m trying a new schedule for today with writing in the afternoon. Hopefully, I can crank-out some words later today. I’m running out of time! 8-O

Question of the Day

If you could change places with anyone for one day, who would it be?

Let’s just say NOT YOU! My body doesn’t do well at 4:45 am. I think I would be Kelly Ripa though. Imagine waking up and looking in the mirror and seeing that face? Oh, and seeing Mark Consuelos in the morning might not be bad either. :)

I would love to trade places with Kara Goucher, because I’d love to know what it feels like to run sub-5 minute miles! I’m pretty fast, but I will nevvvvver be that fast ;) I guess it takes a very special person to be an elite runner!

Body Pump sounds like SO much fun. I really wish my gym offered it!

@Kelly @ Healthy Living With Kelly: I’ve never commented here, but I wanted to say Michelle Obama too! Beat me to the punch.

I know it sounds crazy, but a mom with three kids. I need to work on my time management, and I think that would definetly help. I have no kids, and get way less done than my friends who have kids.

Great job! It’s definitely tough to get up in the morning, but once you get into a routine it’s awesome! I love waking up early and working out. I feel awesome for the rest of the day and don’t have to worry about fitting in a workout. I love it!

It is hard to get up in the morning, but I get up at 4:45 everyday to workout – you do get used to it and just feel SO good after! :)

Oo interesting question!! I don’t think I’d want to trade places with anyone, but I’d love to be a fly on the wall in people’s lives like the president, Oprah, and Dr Oz!!

Today, I would trade places with anyone who doesn’t have an enormous agenda and has time to just be. And really just be. My week is insane!

I made kale chips last night too! I dipped mine in a little bit of honey mustard. They were yummy, but had a hard time getting the kids to eat them – and they are usually great eaters. We will try again!

Its always so hard to get up that early to work out but feels so good after!! It’s even hard to get up that early even when you remember that you’ll feel great after :) Great job and yummy looking breakfast! If I were to trade places with one person for a day, it would probably be Ellen. She seems to have so much fun all the time, her coworkers are great, and she gets to help people everyday! She also dances everyday too :)

I try to get up and out for 6am Kettlebell class 3 days per week. It is so HARD to get up, but I always feel AWESOME after class and its nice to know I got a killer workout in so early in the day.

I would love to be Samantha Brown from the Travel Channel, she goes to so many cool places!

Make sure you eat some protein before you weightlift to properly fuel your muscles. A better choice would be some egg whites, cottage cheese, or a protein shake.

The hardest part of a work out for me is getting there!
I have no idea who I would change places with! Maybe Hilary Clinton?

You may think your life is boring, but I would gladly change places with any of the major food bloggers that I read every day (You, Meghann, Jenna, Chandra, etc.) I would like to see what it like to be a big time blogger!!

I would love to change places with my future self for a day. I know that sounds weird but since I work full time and go to school full time I would love to experience the pay off for all my hard work and to make sure that I am on track to be happy and successful in the future.

I love morning workouts but sometimes struggle to get out of bed too. I’m jealous that you have a morning workout buddy! I can’t convince anyone to meet me at the gym at 5 am.

Can I pick a man? Oh of course I can. Make believe is FUN!

Anthony Bourdain. I like his swagger. HA! I want to see what a day would be like spent as an uninhibited wild man who travels the world and dines on eclectic local foods. Can I get a whole week though? You know, to thoroughly soak it all in? :) I bet by the end, I’ll appreciate being a woman EVEN more!! I heart him though!

i go to bodypump M,W,F at 5:45 a.m. – it’s tough to get goin’ at first, but by the time the bicep track comes around it’s like i’m just waking up & the workout is practically over!

Sounds like a great workout although that wake-up time is EARLY! I’m not sure I would have enjoyed “Vicki’s” woohoo’s! Haha.

I would love to change places with Michelle Obama for a day or Jessica Simpson…those are two very different lives!

Ugh…I feel your pain! I get up at 4:45 am everyday not to work out, but because I have an hour and a half commute to work. It’s tough, but your body will adjust eventually.

Also, I tried kale chips last night and they were really good! It was my first time trying kale.

My friend keeps trying to convince me to work out with him at 4:30 when the gym opens, I don’t think I could EVER do it. I roll out of bed 20 min before I have to run out the door for work. Sometimes I wish I worked a 9-5 instead of 7:30-4 so I could work out in the morning.

Way to go waking up so early and getting a great class in! I really REALLY hate waking up early, but I’ve really been enjoying having the extra time. Hopefully it gets easier eventually ;-)

If I could trade places with anyone for one day, it would be my grandmother. She’s been taking care of my grandfather for over a month now since he had a major surgery, and I wish I could trade so I could care for him while she relaxes!

I used to wake up way early in college and workout…these days, not so much. Although the days that I do, I feel like I am far more productive. So I really should, but my bed is so comfortable! I would switch places with someone who had a new baby…a test drive of sorts to see if I am ready! :)

I commend you for making it to such an early class. I find it extremely difficult to wake up and got straight to exercise. Not to mention, I’m typically starving when I wake up in the morning. That dense oatmeal looks like an amazing blend of ingredients, textures, and flavors.

I agree with Caitlin at “Right Foot Forward,” I would switch places with some one in the career I’m pursuing in order to get a sneak peek.

Heather (Heather's Dish) March 4, 2010 at 10:18 am

way to go on getting to class!!! that after-workout feeling is SO great, it’s definitely a motivating factor for me. PLUS, if you do it but still don’t feel great after then at least you did something! if i could switch places with anyone for a day, i’d trade with someone on vacation by the ocean. no one in particular, as long as they’re by the ocean! :)

I would change places with Jennifer Aniston for one day-ya know preferably a day she is with Gerard Butler :)

Anyways, I know the feeling of getting up early today-4:30 for this chica, however I wish it were to work out instead of going to work…….
