Signs of Spring

March 18, 2010

Murphy and I enjoyed a wonderful walk around the neighborhood this afternoon. The weather was absolutely gorgeous! :-D

On our walk, I encountered a number of signs of SPRING! It’s almost here!

Beautiful budding flowers.

An active park.

IMG_0306.JPG

Bright blue skies.

IMG_0310.JPG

YAY!!! I’m so excited for nice weather! Let’s hope it sticks around.

Murphy and I walked for almost an hour and covered 3 miles. Keeping track of our progress with my Garmin made it feel like a workout to me! ;-)

IMG_0312.JPG

As soon as we got home, Murph passed out on the floor and took a nap. He was so exhausted!

IMG_0315.JPG

IMG_0316.JPG

I didn’t even have a chance to take off his leash and harness!

Dinner

My appetite was all over the place this evening. I was hungry, but not in the mood for anything specific. I ended up making some homemade sweet potato fries, which I tossed in olive oil and ground flaxseed meal.

IMG_0322.JPG

I loved the addition of the ground flaxseed meal– very yummy and nutritious!

IMG_0323.JPG

IMG_0324.JPG

On the side, I made a pesto + sour cream mixture for dipping. The sweet potato fries + dip were an amazing flavor combination.

IMG_0329.JPG

Dessert

A little while later, I wanted something sweet to eat, so I attempted to make a butternut squash version of my Almond Joy “Ice Cream.” Well, my little kitchen experiment totally bombed. :-? Basically, frozen butternut squash tastes nothing like a frozen banana. The butternut squash is really bland and boring while the banana is sweet and smooth. I’ll be sticking to frozen bananas in the future!

I ended up eating my frozen creation because I added about an ounce of Scharffen Berger dark chocolate to the mix and I didn’t want to waste it. That stuff is too good to not eat!

IMG_0332.JPG

Around 8:00, my appetite got really weird. I made myself a small bowl of Galaxy Granola and then grabbed a beer. So random, right? A smooth, dark beer just sounded so appetizing to me. I’m just going with it…

IMG_0335.JPG

Look what arrived in the mail today!!!

IMG_0297.JPG

My Rent the Runway dress! You guys helped me pick it!

IMG_0299.JPG

This afternoon, I tried on the dress and it fits perfectly! Thank goodness! BUT, I’m having a serious bra issue!

Check out the back of this dress:

Look13d-ProductDetailPage-backFront-2-4_100205.jpg

A strapless bra just won’t work. What are my other options? I need to buy something TOMORROW or otherwise I can’t wear this dress. And, going without some sort of support is just not an option. Any ideas??? Help!

I’m heading to bed early again tonight. G’night, blog friends!

Yay for spring! Flowers are blooming around here finally too!

I have a pb question- where do you find that Teddy’s PB?? I never see it in stores where I live (D.C.), but it looks so yummy!

I love the idea of adding flax to sweet potato fries. I just bought a huge bag of ground flax today, so now I have something to do with it : )

Hmmm…sorry about the bra sitch. I know what ya mean…we’ve got to wear something…pasties aren’t an option. There may be backless bras…or maybe I just made that up? Obvi, nothing will be as supportive as a regular bra, but I’m sure you’ll look smokin’.

The fries sound so good. I have been craving stuff like that lately! As for the bra…I am so bad at that kind of stuff. I am curious to know what you come up with!

You’ve gotten a bunch of comments w/ great advice already. But I’ll just add…Target sells stick-on bra cups. They’re inexpensive and reusable.

I wear my hrm when I go walk my dog and even if it is just a 20 or 30 min walk I still like to consider it some kind of work out. My dog won’t run though which is sad but we still get our cardio on!

I clicked over from Reader just to see the advice in the comments! Ohhh bra problems. I was wondering if someone might recommend duck tape! :)

I’d wear the other dress!

I won’t lie, I’m pretty flat-chested, so a nubra usually works for me, but another option that I have used once is putting on your strapless bra and then folding in the straps to the side and ducktaping. Sounds weird, but it works like magic!!

Carrie (Love Healthy Living) March 18, 2010 at 11:23 pm

I think you could do a backless corset thing (sounds worse than it really is).

BTW, do pugs in general need that much exercise? I am partly inspired by Murphy to get a pug, but I’m curious about the exercise requirement.

i got a bra from target of all places for about 20 bucks…it has cups that adhere to your boobies and has a clasp in the middle but not straps at all…it got me through about 4 formal events before it stopped being sticky! i’m really picky and i give it my seal of approval :)

@Carrie (Love Healthy Living): I watch a lot of Cesar Millan. He says: “Exercise, discipline, and affection… in that order. These are the three ingredients for creating a happy, balanced dog.”

The stick-on bra did not work AT ALL when I tried it once. It was AWFUL!!! I say go to a dept store, (or if you have time to drive up to Concord NH, Zoe and Co. is the BEST bra store in New England!!), but if you can’t spare the drive, then get a bra that you can pull the back WAY DOWN on. I wore a bridesmaid dress with a back like that (and I wear at 36F), and I found a special attachment that pulled the back of the bra down and hooked it to a belt that went around my back. I “think” I bought it at the Bloomies in Chestnut Hill.

Love the dress but I’m never sure how to wear backless dresses like, either. Gotta have the support! ;)

Yup, go for the stick-on cups. Not the most awesome things to wear, but they do the trick ;-) I used them when I went to prom in high school!

Gorgeous dress! I once wore these sticky cups to a restaurant. While we were walking I noticed my boobs falling off… (sweat?) I ended up hiding behind a parked car and removing them. My husband carried my boobs in his pocket for the rest of the night. haha

I have a Garmin Forerunner that I got for Christmas 2 years ago and haven’t opened yet LOL. LOVE your dress! It’s brilliant. I think they make pasty bra cups that you glue on. I’ve never worn them, but I’ve seen them before.

Awh no wonder Murphy was tired, 3miles is a long way for little legs!!
Flax on sweet potoato fries – genius.
People have probably already said it, but you can (at least in England) get bras where you can change the back and that are designed for dresses like that – I have one at home :) They take an age (and a strong brain) to work out, but it does the trick!

HVL March 19, 2010 at 6:06 am

Would something like low back straps (e.g. http://www.freshpair.com/Fashion-Forms-Low-Back-Straps-4101.html) help? They might do the trick if you already have a bra that has removable shoulder straps. Otherwise my only other suggestion would be stick on ones (but like you I have a large chest on a small frame and don’t really feel comfortable in them). That is a very tricky back-of-dress to pull off, good luck!

Beautiful dress!
The NuBra works great at staying in place for those backless dresses. Mine worked great in hot and humid weather :)

I’m not sure if you all have Nieman Marcus in Boston but that is where I purchased mine.

I haven’t read the other comments, so maybe it’s been suggested, but have you tried the stick on cups for a bra? I used them last summer for a backless dress and they worked great.

I am aching to see my crocus’ bloom! A few weeks and I’ll see the same flowers in my garden.

whitney March 19, 2010 at 8:21 am

wow that dress is absolutely amazing! I don’t have boobs so I have never really had a problem with the whole support thing but I know Victoria Secret has a bra that sticks to your boobs with no back and they work well. They also have ones with padding for people that are not blessed like me.

I love your dinner last night. The sweet potato fries looked great but what made me smile when I read your blog was seeing that wonderful beer and cereal. You go!

Meghan March 19, 2010 at 8:22 am

to wear the dress, you may have to use tape

Everyone keeps suggesting the sticky bras/petals/pasties…if you go that route, my suggestion is to have some baby oil on hand. That’s usually what it takes to easily remove the petals/pasties and when you’re dealing with something stuck to “the girls”, you want the removal to be EASY! ;) Always be good to your girls, haha!

I love your blog!

If you go to Macy’s or Lord & Taylor in the Lingerie dept they have alot of convertible/strapless alternative bras (typically more affordable than Victoria’s Secret) . I am petite w/ a large chest and I just don’t feel comfortable in strapless. I was able to find a corset type strapess that was low in the back.

Good luck!

ALSO –

Where do you get bathing suit tops to fit you? I am going on a cruise in just about 2 weeks and every store the size L top is not big enough!! I am very frustrated and dont want to spend an arm and leg for a bikini top!

We had a very similar afternoon yesterday! Walked Pepsi in the beautiful afternoon sun and had burger and fries-you had fries! I should have added flaxseed to mine-great idea.
Great dress…….I am sure you will find a bra with all of the suggestions……
Have a great day :)

I know you have mentioned before that you are large busted, I have the same issue (I wear a 34G) and I ordered the D-up cup from sense lingerie for a wedding I am doing this summer. I have not worn them all day for anything yet, but they seem like they would work. Warning: They are not very cute, and they are a little expensive.

I totally can’t go braless either. I’ve never been able to find a good option for backless dresses, but I know that some low-backed bras exist. Maybe go to a department store and ask for help? Bring your dress to try on with the bra…

Lauren March 19, 2010 at 9:39 am

There are these latex/silicone(?) stick on bras that don’t have gel padding or anything but you basically stick them on and then pull the tatas together and hook the little clasp in the middle. They are genius. I think you can get them at most department stores for around $14 and they are reusable for like 5-10 times. They won’t give you great push up or anything but they work great for this purpose! Good luck!

That dress is amazing! Tina the dress was designed with the fact that no bra will fit anywhere. If the top of the dress is fitted enough and the fabric is not too light weight you just don’t need a bra. Anything that doesn’t have straps is not going to support you anyway. Go for it girl you will look amazing!!!!
