Shades of Green

March 11, 2010

Is anyone else looking forward to St. Patrick’s Day? For some reason, I really am this year. Maybe it’s because I am dressing up for the 5K on Sunday? ;-) My family is Irish and all, but we’re not super Irish. I guess I’m just really excited to celebrate– the road race, my mom’s boiled dinner, Guinness… it sounds like a good time to me! ;-)

Lunch

I got into the St. Patty’s Day spirit by packing lots of shades of green in my lunch today. (Actually, that statement is a blatant lie. My lunch just randomly included lots of green foods and a wrapper. ;-) )

Today’s lunch included:

  • Leftover barley deliciousness on a bed of arugula
  • Sliced Kiwi
  • Granny Smith Apple
  • Pumpkin-N-Spice granola bar in a green wrapper

Ok, so the granola bar was a stretch, but it has green pumpkin seeds in it, so that counts, right? ;-)

Delicious!

I also brought a package of OrGano Gold instant coffee that a reader sent to me to enjoy as a mid-morning snack. I’m very intrigued by the latte flavor. I’ll let ya know how it tastes! ;-)

I haven’t put a photo of Murphy on the blog in a few days, so here’s one from this morning.

This photo totally cracks me up, but I’m not sure what his expression says. Any ideas?

I think he wants to watch some tv and is asking, “Have you seen the remote?” :-)

I grew up in a section of New Orleans known as the Irish Channel. Lots of green beer and celebrations at every corner bar. I’ll miss that.

Murphy is too cool.

Gotta love Murphy! Sooo cute.

I think he’s saying, “Mom another picture for the blog seriously?” but don’t listen to him because I LOVE all the pictures of him.

I just wanted to share that I normally live in Boston (I go to Tufts) but I’m studying abroad in Ireland right now so I thought it was really fun to read this post! I think that St. Patrick’s Day traditions are a way bigger deal in Boston than here, isn’t that funny? Your blog also is a great reminder of home for me :) Thanks!

Well, if you didn’t take his picture all the time I would say he is thinking, “hey, what is that thing you are pointing at me.” :) But I am sure he is used to the camera. I thought our pug Sumo was abnormally large because by best friend has two pugs that are half his size, but Murphy looks more like Sumo’s size…SO cute! Maybe her pugs are just small?

That kiwi looks so scrumptious!

Murphy definitely looks very poised and proud in this poochy portrait. Boy, there was a lot of alliteration in that sentence.

Your lunch looks tasty! I love the idea of adding leftovers to a bed of greens, it’s a great way to sneak in an extra serving of veggies.

I’m looking forward to St Patrick’s Day too, even though I am not at all Irish. My husband I have been indulging in a bit of delicious Irish Soda Bread and since I’m not working right now, I hope to finally go see what all the hype is about the St Patricks Day parade!
