Pumped

March 6, 2010

GOOD MORNING!!! I’ve already had the most fantastic Saturday: Body Pump, breakfast at the Wheelhouse Diner, and a nice walk out in the sunshine with my favorite guys! Life is good.

Snack

Before Body Pump, Mal and I shared a banana and a bottle of vanilla-flavored Frappuccino Light that the nice people at Starbucks sent me to sample. For the most part, I liked this coffee drink. But, not surprisingly, it tasted pretty artificial. :-? I guess I just prefer my homemade iced coffee with vanilla soy milk instead. ;-)

Workout

Body Pump was GREAT today! :-D My legs haven’t been sore after class in a couple of weeks now, so I increased my squat track weight by 5 pounds.

Don’t these double 10-pound weights look badass? My legs were Jello by the end of the squat track, but it felt awesome.

Here are my current Body Pump weights (includes 3-pound bar):

  • Warm-up: 23 lbs.
  • Squats: 43 lbs.
  • Chest: 23 lbs.*
  • Deadlifts: 33 lbs.
  • Triceps: 18 lbs.
  • Biceps: 18 lbs.
  • Lunges: 38 lbs.
  • Shoulders: 23 lbs.
  • Abs: body weight
  • Cool down: none

* I dropped my weight after realizing that a wider grip on the bar makes the chest track more challenging.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr! I’m a beast!

Breakfast

After Body Pump, Mal and our friends, Dave and Marie, headed to the Wheelhouse Diner for breakfast. We needed to balance out all of the calories that we just burned! ;-)

From the menu, I ordered my favorite breakfast: 2 eggs, homefries, toast, and coffee (aka the #3).

I usually get raisin toast with the #3, but this morning, I changed things up with rye toast. I recently read that rye (and pumpernickel) bread have more fiber than whole wheat bread, so it helps keep you satisfied longer. Might as well give it a try, right? So far, my stomach is staying full!

IMG_6873.JPG

I added some ketchup and hot sauce to my homefries, which, in my opinion, is the best way to eat them! ;-)

Mal and I just got back from a 40-minute walk with Murphy, so I need to shower and get down to business. The weather is gorgeous, so hopefully, I get bust out some work and enjoy the rest of the day.

Oh I love diner breakfasts!! Even when you try to replicate them at home they’re never as good! Your meal is what I always get too, minus the butter.

P.S. your legs look amazing in that picture!!

I fell in love with ryebread when I was in Germany last week, mostly because I had a horrible cold and it was one of the only things that I could taste! Did you miss the burst of sweetness from the raisins, though?

I’m new to your blog and love your philosophy because it is much like mine. I definitely don’t eat “healthy” all the time but try to keep everything in balance.

Way to go on increasing weights!! It always feels great to move up in the weight world. ;-)

Can’t wait to keep reading.

I’ve been reading with interest about your BodyPump classes – they look great! I wish there were some DVD version to replicate this experience at home for those of use who don’t have access to those classes. Do you (does anyone?) know of one?

Those are great weight lifting numbers! That class sounds so fun…my left elbow is still sore from me tripping and falling :/ and it’s killing me to not work my upper body right now!

Congratulations on the weight increases. I admire your discipline when it comes to strength training, that is easily the area I slack off the most in.

I whole-heartedly agree that hot sauce and ketchup are the best way to dress up breakfast potatoes.

I took BodyPump for a year straight and really credit that class with me toning my entire body, It’s a great class! I burned out on it though, so I work out on the floor now more then anything. Love when I can add more weight in or out of class…means I’m getting stronger!!
