Pocket Rocker

March 22, 2010

Hello, Monday! 8-)

Sorry that I didn’t post about dinner last night. It ended up being a really late night for me– plus, I still needed to write my Health post for the week. If you’re curious, Mal and I ate dinner at my mom’s house last night, which I wrote about over at Trading Up Downtown.

When I was at my mom’s house last night, she pulled out an old-school favorite of mine: a Pocket Rocker! Total blast from the past, right? My mom was cleaning the attic the other day and stumbled upon this gem. Surprisingly, it still works!

I used to love my Pocket Rocker! I’d put it in the basket on the front of my bike and ride all over the neighborhood, rocking out to Tiffany, The Bangles, Debbie Gibson, Belinda Carlisle, and Whitney Houston. I thought I was SO cool with my Pocket Rocker and banana seat bike. Man, those were the days!

Breakfast

This morning, I rocked the Oats in a Jar for breakfast. My beloved Nuttzo was just about gone, so I used the semi-empty jar for my oats.

IMG_0528.JPG

In the mix:

  • 1/4 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/4 cup oat bran
  • 1/3 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp flax
  • 2 tbsp chopped walnuts
  • Cinnamon

I also enjoyed a wonderful homemade iced latte with breakfast.

Delicious!

Oatmeal Seed Extravaganza

As you probably know, my blog buddy, Kath, and I both love chia seeds and flax in our morning bowl of oats, so we arranged a special deal with OpenSky: chia seeds and flax seeds are 30% off from now thru midnight on Tuesday!!! If you’ve been meaning to stock up, a 1/2 pound of organic chia seeds AND a pound of organic flax seeds is just $13 for both. There’s only 20 bundles available, so act fast!

Question of the Day

What do you consider the “coolest” toy from your childhood?

P.S. I have my second check-in for Lose the Dough this afternoon. 8-O Wish me luck!

Oh my gosh I’m so pumped, I just bought the chia and flax seeds! I was thisclose to buying a giant thing of chia seeds last night but they were $20. So glad I didn’t waste my money!!

I don’t think I ever had a pocket rocker :( I had some cool toys growing up, but for some reason I was randomly reminicing about my skip-it last night. It was pink and alwasy flew off my ankle and under a car, but it was super fun!

Oh my gosh, my sister had one of those and she would NEVER let me borrow it. Typical older sister :-)

Hmmmm…not sure how cool it is, but I sure did love my lite brite :-)

I was obsessed with beanie babies, american girl dolls and those hand held electronic pets that you had to feed and take care of.. what were they called? I can’t remember.. ah well.. and I shouldn’t even get into how obsessed I was with all things Hanson when I was in elementary school.

I have never tried Nuttzo before but after all the positives reviews.. I think it will be my next nut butter to try. Ya know, after all of the 4 jars that I already have are gone in my cabinet.. haha! Hope you have a good Monday! xoxo

Easy Bake Ovens! I never had one and it haunts me to this day; my husband already promised I can buy one whenever we move to a house :D

I do love flax in my oats. I have not tried the chia sees yet though. I know I need to check them out! My favorite thing as a kid was my boom box. It was huge and had two cassette players. I could play music, sing to it and record it! I loved it. Good luck this afternoon…but I know you don’t need it!

I think I had all of those tapes as well! So funny.
The coolest toy from my childhood was a pogo ball. Those rubber balls with the saucer around them that you stand on and bounce, so fun! It would be a good workout now to. :)

Aw wow I’d never heard of a Pocket Rocker before. Guess they never hit the UK or if they did maybe I was just uncool! I had so many favourite toys- I adored my space hopper and my barbies though. I cried when my Mum sold my barbie collection on me when I was 10 :( I also loved a toy phone I had when I was 4, it spoke to me- until I was running up the stairs, fell over and landed on it. :(

Jen March 22, 2010 at 8:36 am

Oh wow – I started laughing when I saw the pic!! The pocket rocker was definitely one of my favorites too! I would carry that thing with me all over the neighborhood playing “I Think We’re Alone Now” over and over again. :)

Kyla March 22, 2010 at 8:41 am

Giga pets, beanie babies, barbies, the Spice Girl dolls, and my American Girl Kirsten were some childhood favs. Can you tell I was a 90′s kid?

Ahhh! I LOVED my pocket rocker too!! It was probably one of my faves. My friends and I used to put it on and then make up dances. We were so cool, obviously

I was a big fan of Debbie Gibson and Tiffany, too. Those were my favorite cassette tapes back when I was in first grade. I feel so old. I think at that time my favorite toy was the skip it. You’d hook it around your ankle and skip over it as the device counted how many times you’d skipped over it. Come to think of it, that sounds like a workout device!

Madeline @ Greens and Jeans March 22, 2010 at 9:06 am

When I was in 6th grade we ALL had giga pets and we would play with them under our desks! Of course, the teachers all knew but we thought we were so sneaky!

I never had a Pocket Rocker, I loved all of that music though. I miss the 80s :( lol Riding your bike in the summer was the BEST!

My coolest toy from childhood? Cabbage Patch Kids! I also really loved my Speak ‘n Spell.

That Pocket Rocker is hilarious. I had the exact same one! I have to say my coolest toys were my Cabbage Patch Kids. I loved those things! But my Pogo Ball was a close second.

Your oatmeal always looks so un-voluminous in the jar – especially compared to other bloggers who do the OIAJ. I can’t imagine that that amount would fill me up!

Kait March 22, 2010 at 9:40 am

I’ve never heard of a pocket rocket before but I was all about following any trend there was, guess I’m a sucker.I think the most random toy from my childhood was Pogs…who even came up with those!?

Cynthia (It All Changes) March 22, 2010 at 9:48 am

Good luck with the check in. You should be fine!

My favorite toy was my cabbage patch that I would make listen to me teach as I practiced my future career. She was always so naughty.

@kait 39 ummm…. pocket rocket means something QUITE different from this…

I LOVE extreme oatmeal with nuts or nut butters. It is a great breakfast and keeps you full for hours!

Whitney @ Whitinspired March 22, 2010 at 9:53 am

I think my polly pockets were my coolest toy. And I had these certain types of dolls that came with a birth certificate in a dissolvable packet…you didn’t know what the baby was until you dissolved it in water. That was pretty cool too!!

Kristine March 22, 2010 at 9:57 am

Need I say the word: POGS!!!! Hahaha!

I’ll preface by saying that I’m a longtime reader. I must say that I’m among the growing contingent of readers who are tiring of the constant barrage of Open Sky posts here and on Kath’s blog. It seems like a way for bloggers to make a buck and get more stuff for free. I would much rather have your Open Sky posts on a separate page–they’re beginning to be quite intrusive. There comes a point in every blogger’s ascension when he or she must ask: Am I a writer or a salesperson?
