I Love Bagels

March 9, 2010

Happy Tuesday! 8-)

Guess who is working from home today?!? This girl!

The nice folks at NuVal let me rearrange my work schedule so I can finish my book without losing my mind! So, now I’ll be in the office 3 days a week instead of 4, which essentially gives me a whole extra day to write. Yay!!! I have a feeling that this arrangement will finally help me achieve a true work-life balance! :-D

Breakfast

My wonderful husband made me breakfast this morning: an egg and Swiss cheese breakfast sandwich on an Everything bagel. It was a great idea for breakfast! ;-)

IMG_7083.JPG

He also added some buffalo sauce to my sandwich.

IMG_7078.JPG

I love bagels! They’re so delicious!

IMG_7080.JPG

I also enjoyed some tasty iced coffee with vanilla hemp milk.

P.S. The coffee deal is still on in my OpenSky shop! You can get 20 ounces of gourmet coffee for the price of 12 ounces!

Healthworks Giveaway

Healthworks has offered to give one Carrots ‘N’ Cake reader a 3-month membership to any of their locations. Pretty sweet, right?

DSC_1319.jpg

To Enter: Leave a comment on this post* about why you want to win the 3-month membership. I’ll randomly pick a winner tomorrow morning.

Since Healthworks only has locations in and around the Boston area, I have created a separate post for local readers to enter.

Question of the Day

What do you think of bagels? Love ‘em? Hate ‘em? When was the last time you ate one?

Bagels sure can be tasty, all toasted with some cream cheese. However, I don’t ever crave them. I can’t remember that last time I ate one!

I love bagels . . . obviously (the blog name) . . . but I try to only eat them a few times a month . . . I can get so carried away that I’ll eat two a day, and don’t get me started about what I eat on them, it’ll probably gross you out!

An everything bagel with vegetable cream cheese just might be one of my all time favorite foods. BUT, I hardly ever indulge in them because they are sooo carb heavy and I have learned over the years that carbs pack on the pounds the most in regards to my body. Therefore, I have a question for you: on days you eat a carb heavy breakfast, such as that bagel sandwich, do you lighten up for the rest of the day? Like a salad for lunch instead of a sandwich? Thanks!

Love love love bagels!!! But they don’t really keep me full very long. I had one a couple weeks ago.
So good that NuVal is letting you work from home! I know that must be a load off of your mind!

I used to love bagels with cream cheese. I’d have them all the time. But, I noticed that an hour or two after I ate them, I would feel weak, dizzy, almost hungry again. I stopped eating bagels and switched to more whole-grain breakfast (mostly oatmeal), and I haven’t felt that way in a very long time now!

What an awesome giveaway!

Can you do a how-to on your iced coffee, or have you already done one? I’d love to make it.

I love bagels but rarely eat them….once or twice a year maybe? I love onion bagels with cream cheese, wheat ones toasted with peanut butter or honey butter and I love bagel sandwiches: roast beef with cream cheese is good!

Nothing beats a toasted bagel w cream cheese and a cup of hot coffee! Just this weekend I made the best bagel breakfast snadwiches: Alvardo sprouted wheat bagel toasted, chipotle hummus, egg, swiss cheese and jalapenos, so good:)

alison March 9, 2010 at 10:04 am

i stopped eating bagels in the anti-carb craze of the 2000s. but, in college, they definitely made their way into my life the morning after partying hard. i sometimes eat bagels but i’m more partial to oatmeal. glad you get some time off to write–that’ll help.

Betsy March 9, 2010 at 10:07 am

I love bagels! Wish I could eat one everyday. There’s a great bagel shop near me that sells all kinds of great flavors from jalepeno, to sweet cinnamon! They also make rockin’ sandwiches! Mmm…I may have to stop there today!

Bagels are the BEST! I love the way they smell and their doughy goodness. YUM! In high school I used to eat a bagel for lunch w/ veggie cream cheese on one half (the entree) and pineapple walnut cream cheese on the other half (the dessert). So good!

I love bagels! I don’t eat them very often, but when I do; it’s usually an egg sandwich like you had this morning. Every now and then, I’ll have one as a pre or post run snack. I really love the Chocolate Chip bagels from Panera Bread. Awesomeness!

Kierstan March 9, 2010 at 10:29 am

Bagels, my favorite! Every chance I can switch bread for bagels I do. Working from home is fun! I do it every day!! Unless of course I am on the road, which is pretty much every day. :)

I just finished a bagel myself! I actually LOVE them but I can’t lie, my belly is not the biggest fan of them. :) They kind of swell up in there and make me feel super bloated.

I work in Manhattan, our office does “Bagel Thursday” from Ess-a-Bagels. They are about as big as my head… half a multigrain or pumpernickel + a teaspoon of chocolate chip cream cheese (its so good its wrong!) however, it sits like a rock in my tummy & fills me up from 8am until 1pm!

I used to eat bagels all the time! In high school, the place to go before football games or for any quick lunch was Bagel Bin. Panera bagels were a favorite of mine in college oo, but I have to admit that I haven’t had a bagel in years…. Maybe I’ll change that this week….

Bagels are my weakness! I LOVE them, but don’t eat them often because once I start, I never want to stop! I’ve been craving one for weeks but haven’t given in yet — I think it’s just about time!

I agree – those people at NuVal are really nice!

As a teenager, I ate bagels much more often. I can’t remember the last time I had a bagel – at least a couple of months ago. Wish they weren’t so carb-loaded, but they are great for endurance races and energy!

I love bagels! I just ate one this morning for breakfast. I don’t eat them too often though because they are usually so oversized and I can’t stop with 1/2.

My favorite is a pumpernickel bagel with a fried egg and either yogurt cheese (from Trader Joe’s) or swiss cheese. MMMM! But I can also easily go for the simple pumpernickel bagel with plain cream chesse. I’m hungry now – yay for lunchtime!

I love bagels, I used to eat them all the time (sesame seed is where its at!) I haven’t had one in forever though, I still kinda have that whole negative connotation of them built up in my mind. I need to just let it go and enjoy one every once in a while, yours looks delicious!
Good luck with the extra writing time, such a great deal you’ve made with work!
