Spice Market

Last night, I enjoyed dinner at Spice Market with Sabrina, Megan, and Meghann as well as Sabrina’s husband and cousin, Meghann’s mom, and my college friend, Matt. We had quite the crew!

Spice Market is inspired by the street food Jean-Georges Vongerichten enjoyed while traveling in Asia. Authentically uplifted versions of flavorful street foods are served family-style, with dishes arriving continuously throughout the meal for all to share.

The decor inside the Spice Market was beautiful with its high ceilings, draping curtains, and ornate furnishings.

In the middle of the restaurant is a huge temple-like structure that dominates the room.

IMG_5144.JPG

The place was very hip.

We started with “chips and salsa.” I’m not sure what was in the “salsa,” but it was delicious– full of flavor with a seriously spicy kick.

Spice Market serves all of their dishes family-style, so we ordered a bunch of dishes for the table to share.

Spiced Chicken Samosas with Cilantro Yogurt

Mussels Steamed with Lemongrass Thai Basil, Dried Chili and Coconut Juice

IMG_5161.JPG

Striped Bass Wok Fried Napa Cabbage Waterchestnut and Cucumber

IMG_5164.JPG

I LOVED the Stripped Bass. It was easily my favorite dish of the evening.

IMG_5165.JPG

Shrimp Dumplings, Shiitake and Dill Fragrant Lemongrass Broth

IMG_5166.JPG

I loved this dish, too! After eating the noodles, I added rice to soak up the broth. Mmm!

Matthew and me!

Vegetables in Green Curry

IMG_5170.JPG

Coconut Sticky Rice Steamed in Banana Leaf

IMG_5173.JPG

Onion and Chili Crusted Short Ribs Egg Noodles and Pea Shoots

IMG_5176.JPG

Mid-way through the meal, I decided to order a glass of Chardonnay. I probably didn’t need it, but I wanted to enjoy my last few hours of “vacation.” It was a great glass of wine.

Everything at the Spice Market was so delicious. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was laid-back and relaxed. I’m a big fan! I’d definitely go back! :-D

That all looks so good! We are planning an April trip to the city and it might have to be on the list. Jean-George is actually the brother-in-law with one of our Groomsman! He gets to sit in his kitchen for dinner all the time! Lucky!

The atmosphere was laid back? Must have been on a Tuesday night…
I’ve taken Adam there for his birthday a few years ago and we both remember the decor being awesome, the food amazing but with super small portions. I remember ordering lobster (because it was a special occasion) and the portion was like 2 bites for maybe $40. We both left hungry and ended up eating pizza after! It was a long night of partying anyway ;)
    I miss NY!!!
