He Loved It

February 22, 2010

We have another Body Pump enthusiast!! Mal absolutely loved tonight’s class! I knew he would! ;-)

I’m not sure if Mal really knew what to expect from Body Pump. I mean, he knew that he’d be lifting weights to music, but I sort of think he thought it would be a “girly” group exercise class. So, to make sure that he knew what he was getting into, I shared this comment that I received on the blog with him:

My boyfriend tried Body Pump with me recently. He picked up my warm-up bar and kind of chuckled at me about how light it was. Let’s put it this way- he now calls that class “paralysis” because he was so sore after it (he completely overloaded his bar)! Tell Mal to use lighter weight and work his way up to you! Guys are surprised at how hard the high reps really are!

This comment cracked me up! It pretty much says it all. ;-)

Mal took the advice and went light-ish on most tracks, and he still had a really great workout. He used the same weight as me on a few tracks, so, of course, I trashed talked him. ;-)

Tonight’s class was a combination of Body Pump 70, 71, and 72. At first, I was a little bummed because I love 72, but after a few tracks, I really started to like the mix. It kept things interesting!

Not surprisingly, right after class, Mal and I each signed up for a new gym membership. I’m glad that I have a Body Pump buddy now! :-D

Dinner

Before leaving for the gym, I made myself a quick dinner. I started with salad topped with chick peas, BBQ Honey KooLoos, and balsamic vinegar.

I also had some leftover Lasagna-Style Baked Ziti.

Salad + pasta.

After the gym, I refueled with a sweet snack: sliced banana + chopped walnuts + agave nectar. Holy yum! I’m definitely adding this snack to my rotation!

Watching the boob-tube and hitting the hay.

Good night!

I’m glad you have a new Body Pump buddy. I always get a kick out of the new guys in Body Pump. We have one female instructor who lifts HEAVY weight; the guys look at her weight and add more thinking they couldn’t possibly lift less than the instructor. That never works for them and I find it highly amusing. Body Pump isn’t 3 sets/15 reps weight lifting like *most* guys are used to. Have a great evening!

Haha glad Mal loved body pump! I don’t think my boyfriend would EVER like a group lifting class like that because he really gets in the zone when he lifts, so you’re lucky you have Mal to go with you now! What a simple, yet yummy snack!

Tina, can you tell us a little more about what exactly body pump is? What workouts you often do, how many reps and sets, any other kinds of exercises? And what’s with the 71, 72, etc? Thanks!

I just found out that BodyPump is offered at a small exercise gym across the street from me. I thought it was this lame-o place until I saw these buff broads coming out yesterday. I checked their website and sure enough, Body Pump! Now I’m too scared to try it! Maybe I’ll just watch from my window with binoculars and try to copy it in my living room…

Glad Mal and you enjoyed the class! I’m intrigued by this “Body Pump.” It sounds like it makes strength training interesting, which is great…because I find strength training to be one of the most loathsome and tedious tasks out there. I’m going to see if my gym offers something similar…

Your banana snack/dessert sounds so satisfying and wholesome. Thanks for the great idea!

I used to do body pump at my gym once a week, but the instructor started to annoy me so I stopped. I understand it’s their job to be uber peppy and cheerful, but sometimes I just couldn’t take it.

I’m glad Mal liked Body Pump! Guys in that class are always so funny. Last night there was a guy next to me, who had obviously never taken the class before. He was acting very cocky and had 40 lbs on his bar. After one set into the biceps session, he was looking around to see if anyone else is struggling. By the end he could hardly keep himself together! While the girls were all cool as a cucumber, since we know what the class is like! It may seem like a girly class, but it really works you out :)
