Double Date

February 1, 2010

Mondays are becoming my busiest day of the week! Holy moly! 8-O They’re supposed to be my day off to catch up with blog stuff and working on my book, but they never seem to turn out that way. Usually, I’m running around like a crazy person!

Ok, let’s recap my day so far…

Snack

Before heading to Healthworks for a workout, I munched on an apple and a Vega Whole Food Vibrancy bar. I also had a second glass of iced coffee after breakfast (sorry no photo).

Workout

Body Pump was great today! I finally made it through the ab track without resting once!  My core has been weak for months, but it’s finally getting stronger. It felt awesome to make it to the end of the track without resting!

I’ve actually made quite a bit of progress in Body Pump latey. Last week, I increased my weight for a number of muscle groups, and I will probably up the weight for my triceps and biceps next week. (They didn’t challenge me as much today.)

Here are my current Body Pump weights (includes 3-pound bar):

  • Warm-up: 23 lbs.
  • Squats: 38 lbs.
  • Chest: 28 lbs.
  • Deadlifts: 33 lbs.
  • Triceps: 18 lbs.
  • Biceps: 18 lbs.
  • Lunges: 38 lbs.
  • Shoulders: 23 lbs.
  • Abs: body weight
  • Cool down: none

5-Minute Face

I receive a lot of questions about my morning routine, especially with regard to workouts. If you’re a new reader, you may have missed these posts:

Tips to Streamline Morning Workouts

What to Pack for the Gym

Recently, I received a question about make-up, so I thought I’d share my quickie 5-Minute Face. I go for a “natural” look, so it doesn’t take much time to “put my face on.”

  • Step 1: Mix a dime-size amount of Sephora Tinted Moisturizer and MD Skincare Power Sun Protection SPF 45; apply to face like lotion.
  • Step 2: Use small brush to apply bareMinerals Bisque to hide “imperfections.”
  • Step 3: Use large brush (kabuki) to apply bareMinerals Warmth (sort of like a bronzer).
  • Step 4: Dust entire face with bareMinerals Fairly Light powder foundation.
  • Step 5: Curl eyelashes and apply two layers of Maybelline Full & Soft mascara. A nice, think layer of mascara seems to eliminate the need for eyeliner.

Viola! :-D I was in and out of the locker room in 20 minutes. My hair was only half dry, but whatever. ;-)

Snack

After my workout and shower, I headed downstairs to Starbucks to meet Hannah, the Marketing Director at Healthworks, for coffee and catching up. Hannah also took the Body Pump class, so Starbucks and chatting was a nice way to finish our workout.

At Starbucks, I ordered an iced decaf soy latte. Mmm! After a tough workout, it hit the spot! :-D

IMG_4504.JPG

After chatting with Hannah for awhile, it was time for my second “date” of the afternoon with Elina. But, before I met her, I took a pit-stop at Anthropologie. Can we all agree that it’s the most amazing store ever?!?

IMG_4507.JPG

I can easily spend hours in Anthropologie obsessing over everything.

Love this pug pillow! Adorable!

IMG_4509.JPG IMG_4510.JPG

IMG_4511.JPG

I pretty much want one of everything in the store.

IMG_4513.JPG IMG_4515.JPG

Elina and I met at Wired Puppy, a funky little cafe, on Newbury Street.

IMG_4520.JPG IMG_4521.JPG

I loved that Wired Puppy had doggie treats for their furry friends! :-D

IMG_4526.JPG

Elina was having trouble with Ecto, so we arranged to meet this afternoon so I could give her a brief tutorial.

At Wired Puppy, we considered purchasing a delicious baked good, but we both ended up ordering loose leaf tea instead, which was probably a good decision considering how much sugar I’ve eaten lately!

I went with a tea called “Roots,” which was tangerine + ginger. It had a nice, strong ginger flavor to it. It was so good!

Lunch

After playing downtown all afternoon, I hopped on the bus home.

It was almost 4:00 pm by the time I got around to eating lunch, so I threw together a quick peanut butter and banana sandwich on Sandwich Thins.

IMG_4532.JPG

I was so hungry, I practically scarfed it down!

IMG_4533.JPG

IMG_4534.JPG

My cute pug has been waiting patiently while I blogged this post, so now it’s time to reward him with a long walk… and perhaps a little bit of peanut butter! ;-)

See ya for dinner! I might have some good news to share!

Thanks for posting all that Body Pump info. I’m feeling very strong with my arms, but I have some work to do to add leg weights. I’m super impressed that you made it through that abs track – that plank with the moving legs is SO tough!
We have similar make-up routines – only I’m crazy pale…
Do you always use Ecto? Does it speed things up? Right now I’m just using Wordpress, but I’m ready to upgrade if you think it’s worth it.

Oooh can’t wait for the good news!!
Wired Puppy, that is such an awesome name!
Anthropologie looks good too – I wonder what the English equivilant is? I love browsing in shops that sell cutlery and plates and stuff, even if it’s cheap and nasty; heck, Tesco value plates get me excited!! I think I need a new hobby….
Have a good afternoon :)

I’m so jealous that you get to work out during the DAY! I have to do it before 8:00 am or after 5:00 pm and on both ends, I’m always tired :> Can’t wait to hear your news! Oh, and I saw the cutest PUG card at PetCo this weekend. I almost bought it to mail to you :>

Can’t wait to hear your exciting news!

Your blog is good advertising for the city of Boston – between Healthworks & the cool cafes you show us! Sometime, it’d be great if you could tell us what you use to prepare the iced coffees/lattes you have at home in the mornings. They look so good! Maybe you already explained that in an earlier post? Thanks.

I love anthropologie! I could spend so much $$ there…

I usually have to eat immediately after a workout though – I think I would pass out if I waited until 4pm to eat lunch!

There’s nothing wrong with a bit of scarfing now and then :P

And that is the cutest pillow ever! Too bad Christmas just passed, you could’ve *hinted* at it a little bit :D

I just started copying your ‘dessert’ of pb & chocolate chips on an arnold’s thin, and it’s the perfect semi-healthy snack to end my day :)

Wow, you must have been starving after that workout and not eating until so much later! I love the housewares stuff at Anthropologie — too much adorable stuff — but not all of the clothes, which tend to be overpriced. They have the cutest measuring cups shaped like tea cups.

I love anthropology. I always go there for inspiration. Then I don’t buy anything because it’s a little pricy! I’m drueling over thoses dishes.

For food blogging I’ve found I can get dishes really cheap at Good Will and the Thrift store. Everything is under a dollar and it doesn’t matter if it matches. Lord knows I don’t make enough off my blog to afford fancy dishes…. yet!

god i love anthropologie too, despite what i’ve read about the CEO’s unfortunate political opinions (supporting anti-gay, anti-prochoice causes). sometimes i wish i didn’t come from a family that tells me everything i love goes against everything i believe in.

my animal science teacher told my class that dogs LOVE peanut butter…i thought it was only murphy :) but alas, apparently they find it as appealing as humans haha.

i definitely thought about you when he said that!

I really think we were separated at birth. We are TWINS in so many ways. I go for a natural look with my makeup as well & l.o.v.e. Bare Minerals. Also, a soy decaf latte is my go-to Starbucks beverage. The PB&B sandwich pics are great. Enjoy the rest of your Monday evening =]

I, too, might be just a little (as in a lot) obsessed with Anthro – definitely a guilty pleasure. (That and Body Pump, which I guess isn’t so guilty.) Speaking of which, I have a question: When I try to up my weight I find I often can’t finish the track the first time… does that mean I’m not ready? Or should I up the wait and get used to it before I pressure myself to finish the track? Thanks!
