Starting Point

January 11, 2010

Thanks for all of your supportive comments this morning! :-D I’m really excited to get “serious” about my healthy living habits, and I love that so many of you want to join me! It’s nice to know that I have a virtual support system to keep me going. So, if you’re on board, get ready to step-it-up a notch. It’s going to be FUN!

Snack

Mid-morning, I snacked on a Vega Whole Food Vibrancy Bar. It be honest, the flavor was pretty nasty, but I was hungry and it had a bunch of “superfoods” in it, so I ate it anyway.

IMG_2765.JPG

After my snack, I packed-up to go to Healthworks for a Fitness Assessment and a workout.

IMG_2762.JPG

I’m so happy to be back at Healthworks!!! Best.gym.ever!

Fitness Assessment

At HW, I met with my trainer friend, Tara, so she could take my measurements as a starting point for Lose the Dough. I was on the fence about posting my “stats” on the blog, but Tara encouraged me to do so. Posting them on the blog for everyone to see will be great motivation. Eek! 8-O

Ok, I’ve never done this before, but here we go!

Starting Point:

Weight: 132 pounds

Body Fat: 22.9%

BMI: 22.7

Waist: 27 inches

Abdomen: 28.25 inches

Hips: 37.25 inches

Waist to Hip Ratio: 0.72

IMG_2768.JPG

I have some goals in mind about where I want these numbers to be at the end of the challenge, but I will reveal them once I think about my goals a little more.

Healthworks members: If you want to get your own “stats” taken, visit the Fitness Desk (at any location) and ask for a Fitness Assessment. It takes about 30 minutes and it’s totally free! Just make sure to not exercise before it. (It will mess up your results.)

Workout

At Healthworks this afternoon, I took my favorite class: BODY PUMP!

IMG_2770.JPG

Man, I LOVE this workout! It kicks my butt every time!

Today’s class was HARD! I was actually surprised how weak I felt today. Usually, I am one of the “strongest” people in the class with the most weight on my bar, but not today. I bumped down my weight on every track, and I was still struggling!

I am going to be SO SORE tomorrow! I wonder if I can finagle a massage out of my husband? ;-)

IMG_2771.JPG IMG_2774.JPG

After Body Pump, I did 35 minutes on the elliptical while watching Kelly Ripa’s True Hollywood Story.

IMG_2775.JPG

Then, I hit the shower only to realize that I am totally out of practice packing for the gym. I forgot ALL of my make-up, flip-flops for the shower (eww!), and I packed two left sneakers. Um, yea.

IMG_2767.JPG

Now, I’m sporting my gym sneakers with jeans, which is not nearly as fashionable as skinny jeans with tall boots! ;-)

IMG_2778.JPG

Lunch

For lunch, I packed a peanut butter and jelly on Sandwich Thins and a pear. I’m also planning to get some sort of delicious Starbucks beverage in a little bit.

IMG_2780.JPG

Ok, time to get some writing done! I’m still 2 chapters behind!

And, I have some exciting news for you guys later on!

Good luck at your gym and working out. It looks like a really nice one. I start my hardcore personal training on Wednesday 3x a week with a personal trainer at LaBoxing. I am pretty excited like you. :)

I hate those days when you just feel “off” at the gym! This morning my legs felt like I had strapped weights to them.

Christine January 11, 2010 at 4:06 pm

Hey Tina!
I love BodyPump too! Would you be willing to share your weights for the different exercises with us? I have been trying to up my weights but even an extra 1kg makes a huge difference!! and I’ve been doing Pump for 2.5 years!!!!!!

I’ve definitely had my fair share of gym-packing mishaps. Once I forgot the bottom half of my work suit and had to wear a blazer, Nike workout capris, and heels to the office all day. It actually worked out fine, but I definitely freaked out when I noticed my skirt was not in my gym bag :-)

That’s so cool about the fitness assessment. I wonder if my gym offers them as well!

Tina, would you mind sharing your height (you might have done this before–not sure) but I think it would help put the measurements into perspective. If you don’t mind, of course! =)

I went to Body Pump this morning too! I love that class! I had a health assessment last week at work. We get $50 for doing it, if we are healthy we get another $50. I am glad I got the $100:)

I love Body Pump! I’ve only been able to take it once (guest pass) but I hope to join a gym someday that has it. Good luck and I can’t wait to hear even more exciting news :)

I have brought mix matched sneakers to the gym for a bodypump class before…I ended up doing it in my chacos!!

Just curious but how did they measure you body fat? Was it with calipers?

Reply

Katharine January 11, 2010 at 4:21 pm

I love Body Pump, too! It is by far my favorite class – I hadn’t taken it in a couple of weeks (shame on me) and was shocked at how much I had to go down in weight! I’ve become a weakling, time to shape back up!

Gracie @ GirlMeetsHealth January 11, 2010 at 4:23 pm

I wish I could get my stats taken like that. It must be so much more motivating to keep track of your weight, measurements, etc. I guess I could take my own stats…? I definitely want to at least take a “before” picture, like you did.

I’m definitely on board with you :) We can do this, girl!!

I’ve forgotten my underwear once! And I was wearing a skirt that day! I had to go to 7-11 and buy some tights to cut off for some unner-wears until Target opened. It was horrible.

If you don’t mind sharing, how tall are you?

And, your starting stats are pretty great already! How exciting to see where you’ll be in 5 months!

AHHH I LOVE bodypump! My mother actually taught some classes for it a while back (she’s temporarily not teaching because of an overuse injury) but unfortunately they don’t offer classes near the university I’m currently attending–boo :(

The gym looks awesome!! You do too but I know you will feel great once you step it up.

I’m so frustrated right now… seems like the whole world is getting fit and I’m forced to rest. I’m having surgery on Friday and then it may be two weeks before I can really workout again…. blah. Meanwhile I’m suppose to be getting ready for the Boston Marathon! Instead I really need to focus on eating since I cannot workout and don’t want to pack on too much weight.

Alison January 11, 2010 at 4:28 pm

I’m another Body Pump fan; I took a class this morning. Some days are harder than others, but you’ll be back to your old weight in no time. My only New Year’s resolution was to add 1kg to each side during the squat track and use two 5 kg big wheels for biceps. I’ve done the squat part, but those big wheels are heavy and my biceps are weak. One of these days….

My health goal for this year is to focus on exercising consistently and eating clean. I am feeling lots better since beginning to eliminate processed food from my diet. I picked up Clean Eating Magazine at Target the other day, and there are some yummy and healthy recipes in it! Last night I made mushroom strogonaff…delicious!

Health Works seem like a great gym, I wish we had them down here in Miami. I could not tell you how many times I have wrongly packed my gym bag, either forgetting flip flops, a comb, or even an article of clothing! Good luck with your goals. :)

Amy January 11, 2010 at 4:37 pm

You’re doing great, Tina! I have all the confidence in the world that you will reach your goal by your birthday. :) I have one question for you. What kind of tote do you bring with you to the gym? I need something that holds that much too.

Elena January 11, 2010 at 4:38 pm

You look great! And I think it’s awesome you posted your stats…I think I’m finally in a place where I wouldn’t feel embarrassed to do the same (though I think my blog would need higher readership to make it worth it hahaha). Good luck with your goals!

i’d like to know how your waist is 10 inches

Reply

Hi Tina, you look great and fit! Good luck with your new workouts!

BTW, I think you may mean inches instead of cm for the measurements. :)

Reply

Nicole @ Geek Turned Athlete January 11, 2010 at 4:50 pm

OMG! I have totally done that before (forgetting my flip flops, makeup, hair products)! I have been known to forget undergarments as well unfortunately! Well, you still rocked those jeans, I’m sure, with your gym shoes. :)

And, it is awesome that you are so secure with yourself that you posted your stats! Which, by the way, look great! I don’t know why you would want to change! ;)

Thanks for being brave and posting your stats! What’s the difference between the waist and abdomen measurement. Is waist where your body nips in above your belly button and is abdomen around your belly button? Just curious.

Reply

Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers January 11, 2010 at 5:02 pm

BodyPump is THE BEST! I just love it! Out of curiosity, where do you feel like you struggle to lose weight the most?

Reply

stephanie January 11, 2010 at 5:03 pm

Ugh, I hate when forgetting to bring things to the gym. The worst was when I forgot underwear TWICE in one week! (But haven’t since.)

I sure hope those measurements are supposed to be in inches instead of centimeters, or else you are one TEENY woman!
