Sock Monster

January 19, 2010

Wow, today flew by! Holy cow! 8-O

So, after breakfast, I felt totally anxious about the day ahead of me. I had the worst knot in my stomach and I knew that I just needed one day to catch up on everything hanging over my head. Luckily, my boss at NuVal is pretty cool, so I asked him if I could take a “personal day” and make up the rest of my hours later this week. Thankfully, he agreed, so I spent my morning and early afternoon working my butt off!

Snack

Mid-morning, I took a quick break to refill my iced coffee and munch on a Jazz apple.

Sweet and crunchy! :-D

When I work upstairs, Murphy usually hangs out with me, but this morning, he wandered off downstairs for a little while. When you can’t see or hear Murphy, you know he’s up to no good.

When I realized that I hadn’t seen my dog for awhile, I got up from my desk and saw a pair of socks in the middle of the living room floor.

IMG_3442.JPG

Hmm? How did those get there? I decided to do some further investigation in the bedroom.

IMG_3443.JPG

Busted!!!!!

The “Sock Monster” apparently got into my sock drawer. In addition to his peanut butter obsession, Murphy also loves socks– and he doesn’t discriminate between pairs. He loves them clean and dirty!

Lunch

I ate lunch at home this afternoon, which was a nice change of pace.

IMG_3449.JPG

I heated up some leftover Lemony Shrimp with White Beans and Brown Rice from the other night.

IMG_3451.JPG

Mmm! I love the lemony-flavored beans in this recipe!

IMG_3453.JPG

On the side, I had a bunch of carrot and cucumber sticks.

IMG_3456.JPG

Delicious lunch!

Workout

It’s only Day 1 of Lose the Dough and I’m already making changes to my workout schedule! I had originally planned to have a 60-minute cardio workout tomorrow, but since I took today off, I might as well take advantage of the extra time.

This afternoon, I did a 60-minute run-walk workout on the treadmill while listening to Motion Traxx’s Half-Marathon Mix, which was the perfect amount of time.

60-Minute Rolling Hills

  • 54:00 – 55:00: 6.6 mph
  • 55:00 – 60:00: 4.2 mph

In 60 minutes, I covered 5.62 miles, which is much farther than I usually go on the treadmill, but I took it easy with plenty of walking thrown into the mix. And, the best part: my hip didn’t hurt! :-D

Snack

After my workout, I refueled with a 3-Minute Oatmeal Raisin Cookie made with Vega Smoothie Infusion (instead of flour). I drizzled a little agave nectar on top for some extra sweetness. Delish!

I agree- when puppies disappear, it means they are up to no good and into something that is just so interesting!

Good luck home hunting! And thanks for posting your Lose the Dough plans– they’re great motivation and obviously very well thought out. I like your long-term approach, especially in a world of quick fixes and big promises, your plan and goals feel very do-able.

I love the picture of Murphy caught with the sock. It’s got to be a puppy thing; our Frenchie is obsessed with socks.

Your lose the dough sounds great and a nice lifestlye change. Will you do anything different on your date nights or when you have special events? Do you cut back on calories the day before or just indulge? Just curious what your approach is.

Reply

Gracie @ GirlMeetsHealth January 19, 2010 at 7:59 pm

wow, I’m definitely going to have to try that treadmill workout. 5.62 miles? Shew!

I’ve been trying to increase my walking/running in hopes to eventually become a “runner,” so that routine looks like something I should try!

hahaha!! that’s so funny about the socks! i lol’d on that one because my cockapoo “sammy” also has a major obsession with socks! not only does he love socks, but he also likes slippers, aka my husband’s because he never puts his away! it’s so annoying because a lot of my gym socks have the elastic shot out of them and i’m constantly trying to hide the socks at the bottom of the laundry basket, but it never fails, sammy always finds them!! guess murphy and sammy have that in common :)

wow you are speedy on the treadmill!! I find that it’s really hard for me to keep a decent pace unless I’m running outside. I know that’s opposite from most people.

It’s so funny you mention Murphy loves socks. my puppy LOVES to eat underwear. it’s kind of gross but hilarious at the same time.
