Wow, today flew by! Holy cow!
So, after breakfast, I felt totally anxious about the day ahead of me. I had the worst knot in my stomach and I knew that I just needed one day to catch up on everything hanging over my head. Luckily, my boss at NuVal is pretty cool, so I asked him if I could take a “personal day” and make up the rest of my hours later this week. Thankfully, he agreed, so I spent my morning and early afternoon working my butt off!
Snack
Mid-morning, I took a quick break to refill my iced coffee and munch on a Jazz apple.

Sweet and crunchy!

When I work upstairs, Murphy usually hangs out with me, but this morning, he wandered off downstairs for a little while. When you can’t see or hear Murphy, you know he’s up to no good.
When I realized that I hadn’t seen my dog for awhile, I got up from my desk and saw a pair of socks in the middle of the living room floor.

Hmm? How did those get there? I decided to do some further investigation in the bedroom.

Busted!!!!!
The “Sock Monster” apparently got into my sock drawer. In addition to his peanut butter obsession, Murphy also loves socks– and he doesn’t discriminate between pairs. He loves them clean and dirty!

Lunch
I ate lunch at home this afternoon, which was a nice change of pace.

I heated up some leftover Lemony Shrimp with White Beans and Brown Rice from the other night.

Mmm! I love the lemony-flavored beans in this recipe!

On the side, I had a bunch of carrot and cucumber sticks.

Delicious lunch!

Workout
It’s only Day 1 of Lose the Dough and I’m already making changes to my workout schedule! I had originally planned to have a 60-minute cardio workout tomorrow, but since I took today off, I might as well take advantage of the extra time.
This afternoon, I did a 60-minute run-walk workout on the treadmill while listening to Motion Traxx’s Half-Marathon Mix, which was the perfect amount of time.

60-Minute Rolling Hills
Incline: 1.0
- 00:00 – 05:00: 4.2 mph
- 05:00 – 07:00: 6.3 mph
- 07:00 – 09:00: 6.5 mph
- 09:00 – 11:00: 6.7 mph
- 11:00 – 13:00: 6.5 mph
- 13:00 – 15:00: 6.3 mph
- 15:00 – 20:00: 4.5 mph
- 20:00 – 22:00: 6.4 mph
- 22:00 – 24:00: 6.6 mph
- 24:00 – 26:00: 6.8 mph
- 26:00 – 28:00: 6.6 mph
- 28:00 – 30:00: 6.4 mph
- 30:00 – 35:00: 4.4 mph
- 35:00 – 37:00: 6.5 mph
- 37:00 – 39:00: 6.7 mph
- 39:00 – 41:00: 6.9 mph
- 41:00 – 43:00: 6.7 mph
- 43:00 – 45:00: 6.5 mph
- 45:00 – 50:00: 4.2 mph
- 50:00 – 51:00: 7.0 mph
- 51:00 – 52:00: 6.9 mph
- 52:00 – 53:00: 6.8 mph
- 53:00 – 54:00: 6.7 mph
- 54:00 – 55:00: 6.6 mph
- 55:00 – 60:00: 4.2 mph
In 60 minutes, I covered 5.62 miles, which is much farther than I usually go on the treadmill, but I took it easy with plenty of walking thrown into the mix. And, the best part: my hip didn’t hurt!

Snack
After my workout, I refueled with a 3-Minute Oatmeal Raisin Cookie made with Vega Smoothie Infusion (instead of flour). I drizzled a little agave nectar on top for some extra sweetness. Delish!

I agree- when puppies disappear, it means they are up to no good and into something that is just so interesting!
I just had to comment on how freakin’ adorable your puppers is. I love when you include Murphy in your entries! Keep em’ coming. They keep us smiling. Thanks!
I won’t let Red Bull enter my “diet” either…ick!!!! I don’t know how people stomach it, to be honest. Love your blog!
ooo that lil rascal!
your lunch looks DELISH! so gourmet, yet so simple! love it.
Happy apartment-hunting!
I dont know what it is about them, but I think all puppies love socks!
Also, I just have to thank you for turning me onto those fitness mag podcasts – i have done two now, and LOVED them! they make the time pass so quickly.
Good luck apartment hunting tonight! It’s a stressful process but I’m sure you’ll find the right place.
I keep meaning to try your 3 minute cookie! They always look so good and simple to make! And seriously your dog is adorable haha
Haha! One of my miniature schnauzers likes to steal my fiances wash cloths and leave them in the middle of the floor. It drives him nuts but I think it’s really funny!
I’m with you on the puppy thing! My dog loves my socks!
Crossing my fingers on the apartment hunt!
My dogs used to take ALL of my socks! Drove me NUTS!
good luck apartment shopping! i love your pictures of Murphy – he looks like a big bundle of personality
Good luck home hunting! And thanks for posting your Lose the Dough plans– they’re great motivation and obviously very well thought out. I like your long-term approach, especially in a world of quick fixes and big promises, your plan and goals feel very do-able.
I love the picture of Murphy caught with the sock. It’s got to be a puppy thing; our Frenchie is obsessed with socks.
What a cool wine tasting idea- there is so much to learn. Good luck apartment hunting tonight!
Good luck with the apartment hunt! Great workout and great lunch!
I can certainly tell you worked on the diet portion of Lose the Dough by adding all those veggies to your lunch – way to go : )
Ugh, I hate the anxious in your gut feeling. Props for advocating for the day off! 6.9 is damn fast on that treadmill…..you’re little legs must have been flying.
That’s so funny Murphy likes socks. My parent’s dog likes UNDERWEAR which is super awk when she scatters them all over the house!
Great workout!
Is your radio interview on podcast yet?
OK, that picture of Murphy with the socks is officially the cutest picture EVER.
Hahaha! Puppies and 2 year olds. Quiet + out of sight = trouble.
I love that kind of treadmill workout. Mixing up the speeds like that makes the time fly.
Your dog is soooo cute! Awesome workout
Mm your lunch looks good! Part of being successful is also being flexible with your workouts! Good luck apartment hunting
haha Murphy is too cute – love the ‘busted’ look in his eyes in your photo too
Congrats on the great eats and great workout!!
Hey, it could be worse– my dog goes for my underwear (clean AND dirty)!!! Yuck!
Glad you were able to take a personal day to catch up on some stuff…I hate having that knotted, oh-my-gosh I have so much to do, feeling in my stomach
Your lose the dough sounds great and a nice lifestlye change. Will you do anything different on your date nights or when you have special events? Do you cut back on calories the day before or just indulge? Just curious what your approach is.
I am excited to try lemony shrimp and beans! Great 60 minute workout! I can’t go for that long on the treadmill usually either!
I’ve had dogs go for worse things (eww female products in the trash…).
Sounds like a great work out!
could Murphy possibly be any more adorable!!! I just love that guilty look he always seems to have in his eyes
That is so cute!!! My dog used to do the same thing..we had to keep him out of the bedroom all the time…he then switched his obsession to dish towels. Puppies are menaces! But really, really cute ones!
haha that pic of Murphy with your socks is so cute!
Glad your hip didn’t hurt! And that pic of murphy is adorable
How can you be mad at that cute face? We love our dog (a boxer) too!
Glad you took a personal day, we all need those!
Haha your dog is too funny, I love him! I used to have a friend who was obsessed with smelling socks, she used to carry one around with her 24/7…thankfully she’s grown out of it!
Good luck with the apartments
Gluck tonight
Real Simple recipes are just the best!
Congrats on day 1! Glad your hip isn’t hurting
And Murphey is too cute
Oh my gosh, Murphy is the cutest!!
hahahaha i read your q+a, why don’t you eat water chesnuts?! so random
Murphy looks so guilty. Busted!
Good luck with the apartment search.
omg that is so funny! I heard on the radio once the #1 object dogs choked on were socks! I couldn’t believe it! Watch out Murph!! He was probably brainstorming about socks while in his crate that morning!
wow, I’m definitely going to have to try that treadmill workout. 5.62 miles? Shew!
I’ve been trying to increase my walking/running in hopes to eventually become a “runner,” so that routine looks like something I should try!
okay, totally off-topic, but: where did you get Murphy!? I am also in the Boston area and am desperately in need of a pug puppy in my life.
oh my goodness that picture of murphy caught mid-act is too cute and funny! What a personality he has! Glad your lose the dough challenge is off to a great start
@Food Makes Fun Fuel: Hopefully, I will hear about it tomorrow. Will let you guys know soon!
@Heather: I’ll pretty much eat the same way that I always do, but I’ll just be more conscious of how much I am eating. I usually have trouble with portion size at those types of events.
@Julie Miller: From a breeder in Sturbridge, MA.
hahaha!! that’s so funny about the socks! i lol’d on that one because my cockapoo “sammy” also has a major obsession with socks! not only does he love socks, but he also likes slippers, aka my husband’s because he never puts his away! it’s so annoying because a lot of my gym socks have the elastic shot out of them and i’m constantly trying to hide the socks at the bottom of the laundry basket, but it never fails, sammy always finds them!! guess murphy and sammy have that in common
OMG Murphy is so cute stealing socks
wow you are speedy on the treadmill!! I find that it’s really hard for me to keep a decent pace unless I’m running outside. I know that’s opposite from most people.
It’s so funny you mention Murphy loves socks. my puppy LOVES to eat underwear. it’s kind of gross but hilarious at the same time.
You lunch looks so colorful and nutritious! And sounds like you had a nice, stress-relieving day of working at home
haha that picture of Murphy is priceless! Caught red-handed!
That wine series sounds amazing, I love California wines!
