New Year, New You

January 4, 2010

Good morning! 8-)

Thanks for all of your sweet and supportive comments about my hip and knee injuries. I’m obviously very frustrated, but I’m hopeful things will get better.

A lot of people had questions about my injury and how I’ve dealt with it so far. I explain most of the backstory in my FAQ section under “Fitness Questions.” It gives a brief history of how my hip issues started and what I’ve done to get better. It’s been quite the journey!

New Year, New You

As you may know, I set a number of goals for myself in the new year, but I’m not starting on one of them until well after January 1. I’m not beginning my shape-up for the big 3-0 until the middle of the month. What can I say, sometimes I want to be a little different. ;-) Seriously, though, mid-month has a special meaning to me, so it’ll all make sense next week. As far as my other goals, I’m already working on them! Did you set New Year’s resolutions for yourself? How are you doing with them so far?

Breakfast

I don’t know why, but eating an egg sandwich during the work week always feels so special. It’s probably because I only make them on the weekends, so my Monday morning sort of feels weekend-ish now. That’s okay, right? ;-)

For my egg sandwich, I used the microwave patty method for my liquid egg whites, added Frank’s buffalo sauce to one side of my Sandwich Thin, and Soya Kaas soy cheese to the other side.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from soy cheese, but I’ll try anything once. I had a coupon for a free Soya Kaas product, so I went with the American Cheddar-style sliced cheese. It actually tasted quite a bit like regular American sliced cheese– a tad processed, but good. It was a nice addition to my breakfast sandwich.

Mal drank the last of the iced coffee this morning, so I made myself a fresh pot of the hot stuff. I added vanilla soy milk and agave nectar to my mug.

Thoughts on Whole Living

Do you read Body + Soul magazine? It’s becoming a new favorite of mine. I especially loved a number of their thoughts on whole living in the December issue and just wanted to share.

Only you can decide the path worth taking.

You can’t grow without pushing your limits.

No one knows what the future will bring. Put your energy into now.

Question of the Day

If you could make a New Year’s wish for the world, what would it be?

If I could make a New Year’s wish for the whole world, it would be that every person would be 100% responsible for their own health. No relying on medication as a quick fix or treating the symptom instead of the disease. No eating unhealthy meals because it’s “easier” than something healthy. Learning about what makes your body truly healthy instead of just deciding the “expert” always knows better. It brings tears to my eyes thinking about what a wonderful world it could be if everyone would do that!

Ugh, my initial injury started as bursitis after a half marathon and progressed to tendinitis :( As I said yesterday, I went from barely walking to running at 4.5 MPH on the treadmill for 2 minutes at a time, to completing an Ironman in a year. Listen to your body and you WILL get better!

My goals can be found here: http://beingchelsea.com/?p=1393

30 of those bad boys!

As for a wish for the whole world I would wish that good, whole, healthy food was available to everybody, all the time.

My goals are going pretty well right now, but it’s easy to work towards goals when I’m on a break… once school starts again it’ll get harder :(

Your breakfast looks really good & filling. This is the first time I’ve heard of Body+Soul mag, but I’ll check it out :)

I wish people would take responsibility for themselves. Not just for health but just in general. I’m tired of people asking for and expecting to receive handouts.

Sometimes I think processed cheese tastes even better than “regular” on egg sandwiches…must be all those sausage egg and cheese biscuits from burger king that I got when I was little ;)

I love body+soul magazine!! and I can really attest to the “you can’t grow without pushing your limits” idea. It’s so true!

If I had a wish for the world this new year, it’s that everyone could start living for themselves. I have so many friends that live to please others, or only do things because it’s the only thing they know. If they would take some time and realize what THEY really needed, I think the world would be much more positive and less stressful.

I love SoyaKaas; it’s amazing…the cheddar is my favorite but I also love the jalapeno and the mozz flavors…they’re delishy…
I love Body & Soul; it’s honestly my favorite magazine and I read it cover to cover every month…
Have a great day; good luck book writing! Hope your hip/knee is feeling better Tina! Keep your head up, darling!

I really like those thoughts as well.. It’s so true- you have to focus on being happy right now. Maybe I should check out a copy of that mag.

Eggs cooked in the micro is the only way to go! They come out sooo good!
I love how you always try foods once to see if you like them!

My new years wish for the world would be to come to know God as the one who created them and loves them faults and all. That’s my wish everyday.

This is a little too specific, but I’d like to have girls growing up in this generation, in spite of all the shows like Gossip Girl and 90210 which emphasize the power of a “cold hard bitch” character, to cultivate compassion towards others and themselves.
