Listen to the Music

January 6, 2010

Hi, guys! Happy Hump Day! 8-)

I received quite a few requests to post my “Rock Out” playlist, so here it is:

  • Get What You Need – Jet
  • Peace of Mind – Boston
  • Up Around the Bend – CCR
  • Troublemaker – Weezer
  • You Are the Best Thing – Ray LaMontagne
  • You Better You Bet – The Who
  • Barracuda – Heart
  • Love You Madly – Cake

I’m obviously a big fan of rock! ;-)

I usually use this mix when I am running 5K races– it helps to get me pumped up. I “save” this playlist just for special occasions, like races, so I don’t get sick of it.

I’m actually loving MotionTraxx’s free downloads lately. I’ve been using Fitness Magazine’s ‘Lose 10 Lbs’
interval routines from the MotionTraxx site. There are 3 mixes in the series and each one has instructions for conquering the intervals. I love them!

You can also find more exercise playlists here. I really need to update these lists, so feel free to leave a comment with your favorite workout tunes. I’ll add them to the bunch. Plus, I’m always looking for new music. ;-)

Mid-morning Snack

Before I left for work, I grabbed a cranberry-pistachio biscotti to snack on. I’m surprised that might oats didn’t hold off my hunger this morning. Must have been the soy milk!

Lunch

In less than 60 seconds, I threw together lunch for today: leftover Hawaiian pizza, grape tomatoes, and a chocolate Attune bar.

All packed up!

Afternoon Snack

Unfortunately, lunch did nothing for my hunger. I was about to eat my arm when I walked in the door of my apartment this afternoon! I went right for the pistachios– at least I know they’ve got lots of antioxidants! I ate about a handful and a half before I even took off my coat.

Then I made myself an egg white sandwich with buffalo sauce and a slice of soy cheese. Very filling!

NuVal Buzz

Check out Shannon’s post on her blog: Do You NuVal?

Guess the score of my breakfast on Trading Up Downtown and you could win some Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride tea, Scharffen Berger, and Chocolove dark chocolate!

Off to the gym before the crowds come!

See ya!

Thanks for sharing your playlist! I, too, am always looking for new songs to workout to – some of my current faves are One Republic’s “All the Right Moves” and “In My Head” by Jason DeRulo.

How do you like the Attune bars? I’ve seen them in stores but have been hesitant to try them, even though they claim to have lots of probiotics.

Oh, and I love Get What You Need by Jet too. Perfect running music!

“You are the best thing” is the ringtone on my phone for my boyfriend, lol. Love that song. I am definitely there with you, music can really get you flying. I listened to a super fast playlist this morning for my tempo workout and it really made a difference!

I’ve been eating pistachios like a mad woman lately, why are they so good!

Carolyn January 6, 2010 at 4:58 pm

I need to get me some pistachios! I usually eat hazelnuts this time of year because it’s the only time I can get them.

Leftover pizza is the best! It’s amazing how certain songs pump you up to work out!

I love the Attune bars. Eat one (dark chocolate) every day. They do not contain protein so they are not filling but they satisfy my craving for a mid-day treat! The dark chocolate variety only contains 80 calories, which makes them even better in my book. Too bad I am not a food blogger, I am such a fan they might send me some!

I love the Weezer and Cake. Definitely some good picks :)

Did you do anything to flavour the egg whites/how did you cook them? I had egg whites for the first time today, and they were so dull…I had to throw in SO much garlic! Do you have any recomendations!? Have a good evening :)

Great playlist!

Hmmm…I make my oats with soymilk almost every morning, and they always hold me over! Love that extra creaminess!

Erin January 6, 2010 at 6:14 pm

I’m never sure how to cook egg whites to get them fluffy like that … mine usually turn out really blah. :/

I need to update my playlist too – so I jumped right down to your comments to see what people were listing! Already have a couple of tunes I’ll be checking out on iTunes – thanks Tina’s readers!

Great playlist, Tina. And that lunch wouldn’t have filled me up either, though cold pizza and chocolate are two fabulous things!

I hate those days that breakfast doesn’t hold me over and I have to scarf something to get rid of the hunger. At least the nuts were a good choice.

Hey Tina,
looove the blog!! I was wondering if you could give me some insight on a possible hamstring strain that I think I have. I have not been to the dr’s but when I stretch my left leg, the part of the muscle that meets the base of my butt hurts. I usually stretch atleast twice a day so Im thinking it may be from not warming up enough. It does not hurt while ellipticaling, just stretching. I recently cut out a ton of cardio due to too much weight loss and was focusing much more on ST to gain weight, especially lower body for muscle mass.
I know you have a very busy life, but was wondering what you think I should do? I know rest, but it’s so hard for me to do so – I’m a very active person and am used to doing activity everyday.
Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it!

-Jessie

Thanks for sharing your list! If you’re a Maroon 5 fan, Can’t Stop (from their 2007 album I think) is a great (albeit short) running song!

Honestly, I am not surprised that you are always so hungry. I mean you don’t eat much especially compared to the other food bloggers. Still love your blog tho.

What is all the hype over sugar cookie sleigh ride tea?! I tried it recently and I don’t get it. It was so weak even keeping the tea bag in the whole time I drank it. Tasted like warm flavored water…

Tina, I’ve been reading your blog forever and love it and think you’re great, but I do have to agree with S! Grape tomatoes, egg whites, and low-cal sandwich thins –while delicious and healthy — do not filling meals make! A hard-workin’ (gym) gal sometimes needs more fuel. :)

I save my really good playlist for races too. So funny, I hate getting sick of a good playlist because I can never make another one as good after that. Lately I have been running on the treadmill since it is freezing, so I watch TV. So, next run outside, my good playlist will feel new.

My all time favourite workout song is ‘Mr Brightside’ by The Killers. A lot of their stuff gets a few more minutes out of my when I’m almost ready to quit. :) I like P!nk for the poppier stuff, as well.

Oh, and forgot to add, this post totally made me go out and buy some pistachio nuts – yum! So addicting.
