Lose the Dough

Good morning, friends! 8-)

Does Murphy look like he put on a few pounds? I swear thing dog gains weight overnight. I had to adjust his Puppia again before we went out this morning. When is this little guy going to stop growing!?! He’s at least 23 pounds now!

Speaking of gaining weight overnight, I sort of feel like I did after eating almost 10 cookies yesterday. :-? Check out Elina’s photo of me in action at the Cookie Swap. At least, I really enjoyed myself! ;-)

So, are you ready for my news? Let’s do breakfast first! ;-)

Breakfast

This morning’s breakfast was a wonderful egg white sandwich with soy cheddar cheese and buffalo sauce on a toasted Sandwich Thin. Obviously, I love this combo!

On the side, I had some apple slices.

And a Red Eye (coffee + shot of espresso)! 8-O

And here’s my news!

Lose the Dough

So, my 30th birthday is right around the corner. Some people bug-out about turning 30, but I’m really looking forward to it. Entering a new decade is sort of like turning over a new leaf.

I want to enter my 30′s as my healthiest self and looking my best, so I’ve decided to embark on a 5-month journey to get myself in tip-top shape. I’ve named this challenge: Lose the Dough for the Big 3-0.

Ok, so the name is little corny, but I think it describes my current situation pretty well. It’s not like I need to lose weight, but since our wedding well over a year ago, I’ve put on a few pounds– nothing major, but I still feel a little “doughy.” Remember how ripped I looked back in July 2008!?! I worked hard for that body, but slowly and surely, the post-wedding pounds have caught up with me. It’s no big deal, but now I want to lose the “dough” for one of the most important birthdays of my life.

With the help of my good friends at Healthworks, I plan to lose the dough and document everyday of my journey from January 19 to June 19, 2010 (my 30th birthday). I’ll keep you updated with my progress and share my daily eats, workouts, and insights into a 5-month shape-up challenge. Through this journey, I hope to tone-up and look great for my 30th, but I also want to show my readers that these changes don’t happen overnight. If you’ve read my weight loss story, you know that it look me an entire year to lose 25 pounds. Permanent changes to my lifestyle helped me lose the weight and keep it off for 5+ years now.

Lose the Dough for the Big 3-0 may seem like a “diet” since it’s timeframe spans just 5 months, but I don’t view it this way at all. Of course, I hope to lose a few pounds and shape-up, but I want the changes that I make to stick with me longer than just those 5 months. Basically, my 30th birthday was the perfect excuse for me to step-it-up with living a healthy lifestyle!

If you want to embark on a similar journey to “lose the dough” (for a special occasion or even bikini season), I’d love to have you join me! I know there are quite a few 1980 babies out there, too! ;-) I officially begin the challenge next Tuesday, January 19th, exactly 5 months from my 30th birthday. I’m having my measurements and “before” photo taken at Healthworks later this morning and I’ll reveal my “game plan” for the 5-month challenge next Monday– the day before the official start. If you’d like to join in, you have one week to get yourself organized (i.e. take measurements, set up a game plan, etc.). If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me!

Wish me luck! I need all the support and encouragement I can get!

Holy cow – if you have to lose the dough I think I have to lose the bakery :) Haha just teasing. Murphy is pretty cute and I think your title for lose the dough is pretty cool! Do you think I can join in?

Oh boy do I feel the same way! Nothing major, but I am not a fan of the “softness” haha. Good thing the cookie swap was BEFORE this starts!! Speaking of which I just had a piece of one of your bars with my morning coffee :)
I think the first thing I need is a scale…I like not having one but I have no idea what I’m gaining or loosing, I can usually just tell by looking at my stomach and how my jeans fit. I’d love to hop on this wagon!

Tina! This post could not have come at a better time! I just weighed myself for the first time since before the holidays and found that I gained a solid 4 pounds :/ I’m not upset about it – and not surprised either (at 5’3″ those measly 4 pounds make me look a tad bit “doughier” too). However, my birthday is in 2 months, as well as some vacations that I’d like to shape up for. I can’t wait to see what your game plan is because I need all the help I can get. I don’t want to loathe the shape-up process like I usually do, and I’m pretty sure that your game plan is going to be a lot healthier and more realistic than what I would plan for myself! =)

My black lab put on weight like there was no tomorrow, simply because he *loved* to eat and always seemed starving.

I ended up putting him on a “green bean diet” which is just replacing a little bit of the dog food with canned or steamed, fresh green beans. It helped him lose a little weight, which is especially important for labs (ie, hip dysplasia) and pugs (harder time breathing when they’re overweight.)

I would like to embark with you – I don’t want to specifically lose any weight (but a few pounds off wouldn’t bother me), but I do want to focus on getting fit and finally breaking some bad habits once and for all (like eating ridiculous amounts of ice cream at least once a week!). Last week, I stepped up my efforts to lose weight and get in shape. I have lost 30 pounds in the last 2.5 years and now I am ready to push myself even harder to lose the last 20 lbs and reach my happy weight. I’m blogging about my daily eats and couting calories for the first time in a while.

What measurements will you be taking?

I’m in. I used to do some sort of sweaty exercise almost every single day but have toootallly stopped over the past month! living in Madrid, not wanting to spend the money on a gym, cold winter weather hindering my outdoor running, travel, and just relaxing and enjoying the lifestyle here have all made exercise wayyyy lower on the priority list. not a big deal since i walk a ton but man i have lost a LOT of my tonedness. sunny days and shorts are right around the corner so i better start now!!

Great idea, and I love the name! I’m a 1981 baby, so I figure I’m close enough to turning 30 in 2011. This will be good for me to follow because I feel like you, I don’t need to lose, but an extra 5-10lbs off would make me so happy. I completely admire the people who need to lose a lot of weight and live a healthier lifestyle. For those of us who are already quite healthy and only need to lose a little, it’s hard to make positive changes, when what we do is already very positive. Can’t wait!!

Turning 30 was an instigator for me to get my life and my weight on track. I ended up losing 50lbs, getting a new job and moving to a better area (and finding a wonderful boyfriend along the way). Now, as I approach my mid-thirties, I find myself re-assessing my career, my health, my life and making even more changes.

Once you stop growing, learning and challenging yourself, what more is there, right?

I just want to say that this is such a great challenge. I also started my journey to a better me on January 4th, 2010. Last year, I had started to year with a 17 pounds weight loss of a 50 pounds weight loss goal and I became stuck. I’ve since gained 9 or those 17 pounds back.

What triggered the change? Well, I will turn 34 this year, and I am tired of having the same old 50 pounds to lose every year and not doing anything about it. I’m almost in my mid-thirties, it’s time I get serious about my health now.

So the best of luck, I will surely keep on reading! :-)

I love that you focus on long-term, sustainable changes rather than a “quick fix.” Can’t wait to see your plans and re-commit to my own goals. Thanks for the inspiration! :)

I love the idea of Lose the Dough, and especially that it’s about lifelong changes & not temporary changes to your diet!! That’s what I’m trying to do, too.

And, as always, Murphy is adorable!

I have made my goal weight but I’m still doughy in places I’m not happy with. I’ll be sure to take my measurements and join you. I’m looking forward to being more toned for the summer and for life now that my weight is where I want it to be.

Good luck! I’ve been reading for ages but haven’t commented in a while. I’m working on getting in better shape as well, since I have a ton of time on my hands right now! I ordered a Wii & Wii Fit Plus so I can convince my mother and boyfriend to “play” with me! I’m also taking advantage of the university gym (tiny, but hey it’s free!). I love your mentality about weight loss and maintenance so doing this at the same time as you will be very encouraging and inspiring!

I love the “loose the dough” challenge. I hope you are planning to post your daily work outs. I have been trying to eat much healthier lately myself – specifically living a more sustainable lifestyle and eating organic. I go to the gym but feel totally lost when there – do you plan to post all the details of your daily workouts?? I hope so – I would love to follow along.

I’m down. I’m not turning 30 but at the end of June i’m starting an Ob/Gyn residency and I would love to be in shape before life gets really crazy.

I dont really need to lose weight either, but it can be a good option to re-catch good habits i have sort of “lost”. So, if you admit me, i would like to join the challenge! it will be a overseas challenge (i live between spain and france), and i have a very tight agenda, but i will try to follow you on your tips and exercise as much as i can (not easy since i leave home at 6am and come back at 20 :(
    thanks for everything!

This is my exact goal!! It will be great to follow you as I embark on the same journey for my 30th birthday in August. I would actually like to lose about 25 pounds, but the lifestyle changes are more important than the numbers. I look forward to watching you & staying motivated as well. Thanks!!!

Hi there! I just stumbled on your “lose the dough” challenge via twitter and love the idea. I also go to Healthworks (and also turn 30 this year) and have been trying to “tone up” for the past few months… though the results aren’t coming as quickly as I’d hoped. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on your blog from now on and look forward to gaining some tips/insight from you. A couple questions: 1. is it to late to “join”? and 2. have you thought of any “real-life” aspect to this? There must be a bunch of people at Healthworks with similar goals who might be looking for a workout partner or group to help stay motivated…
