A couple of months ago, Amie sent me a care package with all sorts of goodies inside. Two of the surprises were pasta from Eden Organic: Small Vegetable Shells and Kamut Ditalini. Kamut Ditalini? What the heck? So, of course, I “Googled the piss out of it,” as Mal would say.
Here’s what I found:
EDEN Organic Kamut Ditalini is a 100 percent whole grain pasta that provides essential whole grain nourishment from 100 percent organic whole grain Khorasan wheat. This ancient grain provides a powerhouse of nutrients, delicious texture and flavor. These short, ribbed tubes are versatile and fun to eat. Ditalini means ‘little thimbles’ in Italian.

Besides the interesting name of the whole grain, the nutritional information for the Kamut Ditalini was quite impressive. It’s low in calories and fat as well as high in fiber, protein, and a whole slew of vitamins and minerals. Sounds good to me!

Taste-wise, the Eden Organic pastas were awesome– hearty, chewy, and not at all bland like some “healthy” pastas taste. Even Mal loved it!

I paired the pastas with a homemade meat sauce made with ground beef and chopped green bell peppers.

Dinner was GREAT tonight! In fact, Mal is taking leftovers for lunch tomorrow instead of making his usual peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the week. Now, doesn’t that say something about the meal?

And even after all of the cookies that I ate this afternoon, I still had room for a couple more.
I had one of Kelly’s Cookie Dough Truffles.

And a small bite of Break-Up Bar. Both were de-lic-ious!

I suppose that I should enjoy these treats while I can… things are a-changin’ tomorrow!

I used to eat puffed kamut all the time in college. I also have that sample in my pantry and keep forgetting to try it! Now I’m more inclined to thanks to your review.
Oh Yum… I had something very similar for lunch today minus the Kamut. It looks awesome and I would so be with Mal taking the leftovers.

But the kamut, I would have had to google as well. Looks delicious!
That pasta looks soooo good. I wonder where you can get kamut ditalini. I’ve never heard of it, but I really like the high amount of fiber in it.

What a great looking dinner! I’ve never heard of Kamut either
ooooooh that pasta dish looks YUM. There’s nothing more comforting and satisfying than a nice bowl of pasta. I’ll have to keep my eyes open for Kamut for sure…
I love Kamut! It is an ancient grain, and if my friend has anything to say about it, it will be back in everyone’s kitchen soon! She sent me my sample of kamut. Check out her recipe for a great side dish at http://countrytartrecipes.blogspot.com/2009/10/lemony-kamut-with-pinenuts.html.
I have made it and it is delicious!
That is the best looking dinner! I love all things pasta! I have heard of kamut, but have never seen it in a pasta. I’ll look out for that one!
I’ve never heard of Kamut, either! But now I know what it is – thank you for sharing
And it sounds delish, too. I’ll have to search my local grocery stores for it.

Not gonna lie…I was really hoping for an inside view of the Cookie Dough Truffle!
Today wasn’t a good day to give up sweets (except for Cookie Friday…which turned into Cookie Everyday for me…). I’ve been staring at those cookies for hours!
I got the same pastas from Eden’s and didn’t know what to do with it!
The Kamut sounds great!! I’ll have to try that sometime. Good to know it’s husband approved, my boyfriend is quite the picky eater, but knowing Mal liked it gives me confidence my man will try it too
.
Dinner looks great!
Yummy cookie dough truffles!
Jenna
That pasta meal looks delicious AND pretty!
And yeah, both cookies sound scrumptious. The break-up bar kinda looks like fudge.
Your pasta dish looks wonderful! It looks like the chili mac that I loved when I was little
Cookie dough truffles sound live heaven to me!
Yum, everything looks great. I love finding out about delicious new foods.
Mm, that pasta looks amazing.
yum! i am all about the fun pasta shapes, for some reason they just taste better!! (or maybe it takes me back to the days when it was ok to eat an entire box of flintstones mac and cheese). and i’m glad to hear that I’m not the only one to use Google as a verb! can’t wait to hear whats happening tomorrow!
That pasta looks so awesome – I love the fun shape! Cookies are my weakness, I am so glad that our Christmas baking here is finally finished.
That dinner looks amazing. The nutrition stats on the pasta rock! So excited for your announcement tomorrow!
Kamut is a really delicious grain. I’m pretty sure you can find it in the bulk food section of whole foods. I use it instead of brown rice to change things up.
You have peaked my interest in that pasta, I will have to see if I can find it.
I ran the numbers on the pasta and if you know weight watchers you’ll get this reference. This pasta comes in at 4pts per serving! That’s super low. A serving is a 1/2 cup dry so about 1 1/4 cup cooked. Not too shabby. If it tastes good, I’m sold!
I love that your husband says “googled the piss out of it” I think i probably google the piss out of everything too…
i love kamut! i call it “albert camus” whenever i make it….
When I was younger my brother and I couldnt eat wheat, eggs, or dairy. My mom had a really hard time finding stuff to feed us, and Eden Organics was the only pasta she could get us to eat. I can remember her making us kamut pasta, and we loved it. When you can get a 9 year old to eat, and like it, thats how you can really tell something is good.
i’ll definitely be trying kamut soon! thanks for the great tip/review
That truffle looks so good!
cool pasta and cookies. excited to see what’s going on tomorrow!
I’m dying of curiosity … and those cookies look delicious!
I’m never tried Kamut before! Thanks for always trying new things. It helps the rest of us stay up to date with new foods or foods we have never heard of!
Woah that breakup bar looks yummy!!
Have you ever had vegetable rice pastas? I keep seeing them everywhere, but wonder how different they actually are, cos normal pasta just doesn’t do it for me!
I need to try KAMUT.
this week.
whole foods was already on the mizgenda for today with the child (perfect time killer as we can wander the aisles there for ages)
Have a fast ? for you about a guest post if you get a moment to email me.
ZERO RUSH.
Thanks for alerting us to the nutritional wonders of kamut.
I’m DYING to know what the big news is today!
That pasta does look good, I love the shape, it looks like it stood up to the sauce well.
That pasta looks great – I’ll be on the lookout for it. Mmmm…cookies. Cookies are definitely my weakness for sure – they wouldn’t last long in my house.
Gah the suspense is killing me! Tell us already!
Mm that bowl of pasta looks great–and I love the shape of the noodles, definitely look like they’d be fun to eat
