If You Don’t Like the Weather…

January 28, 2010

So, I didn’t make it to Body Pump tonight. I blame the snow. :-?

I ended up staying later than usual at work, so by the time I got on the road, the snow was really coming down. I felt like I was driving in a blizzard! 8-O The traffic on the highway crawled along, so my normally 30-minute commute was more than 50 minutes.

By the time I got home, there was no way I could take Murphy for a walk, catch the bus downtown, and make it to Body Pump on time. I considered driving, but parking in Back Bay is always such a nightmare. Blah, blah, blah. I hate all of the excuses. In the end, I skipped Body Pump. Buutt, I came up with a fantastic Plan B, which involves a really fun strength training workout on Saturday morning. Hopefully, it’ll make up for tonight!

Pretty much as soon as I made up my mind to not attend Body Pump, the skies cleared up and the sun came out. WTF?!? I guess Mark Twain was right: “If you don’t like the weather in New England, just wait a few minutes.”

With such a nice day on our hands, Mal and I took Murphy for a long walk. We walked for well over an hour, so at least at got some exercise today.

We walked ALL over South Boston this afternoon.

We played in the park.

And, then stopped at the grocery store to purchased a baguette for dinner tonight. (What’s up with me and baguettes this week?!)

IMG_4208.JPG

And, finally, we found some sweet sticks to chew on.

Look at that dopey pug face!

Don’t you love it when dogs find enormous sticks to play with?

Dinner

Remember the Beans on Toast meal that I loved– and then attempted to make at home a few weeks ago? Well, I bombed my first attempt, but my second was right on! :-D

Here’s how I made the cheesy bean sauce:

  • Combine 4-5 ounces of Velveeta with 1/4 cup chicken broth and 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire in a small sauce pan and cook on medium heat
  • Stir until Velveeta is fully melted
  • Pour sauce over cannellini beans (or other favorite white bean)

Also with dinner, I ate a big salad and a number of pieces of French bread dipped right into the cheese sauce– many of which went undocumented.

IMG_4235.JPG

Raw broccoli dipped into the cheese sauce is also a yummy combo! ;-)

I’m enjoying a single piece of dark chocolate for dessert right now, then putting on my PJs, and vegging out with my boys in front of the TV.

See ya tomorrow. Yay for Friday!

P.S. Before going for a walk with my guys, I snacked on a 3-Minute Spirulina Cookie with peanut butter, which tasted fine, but looked disgusting. I didn’t post the photo for just that reason, but if you’re curious, you can see the unappetizing cookie here. Don’t say I didn’t warn ya! ;-)

We had wacky weather here in NY today, too. One minute it looked like a blizzard outside, the next the roads were clear and it barely looked like any snow hit the ground.

Cheese sauce! :o Bread + cheese = my weaknesses lol

Tina, truly, part of a healthy lifestyle is letting those days go where you really cannot work out… and NOT beating yourself up about it. Even when you are tying to do your age 30 challenge, there will be days of treats and days that lack exercise… remember that 85 percent of the time you are right on with your goals and the other 15% is called LIFE! :)

I hat making excused too for not going to the gym but back at the beginning of Jan I didn’t go because it was snowing and I didn’t want to get stuck there. But as soon as I got home it stopped snowing!! Annoying! At least you went for a long walk in the fresh air to make up for it.
Re baguettes – they are so yummy! I love them just warmed with a bit of butter!

Haha that cookie is so black! I don’t think it looks too bad at all, almost like an oreo…
I love it when dogs have big sticks – my aunts dog used to get massive ones, then try and walk through the door, and everytime the stick was just too wide for the doorway – very funny! And they’re too thick to learn LOL! Love dogs :)

I JUST posted about feeling guilty for missing a workout on my blog and how all we can do is make the best of situations when our time doesn’t go as planned. Looks like you ended up doing that with a good walk :)

Gah I hear you about the weather!! I’m tired of it! I’m also so jealous of those blogs I read where they live down south. ;)

That weather was insane yesterday. Of course the only 5 minutes I had to be in my car all day was the worst of the storm. :(
I’ve never actually had Velveeta. Probably better that way – I’m sure I’d love it…

I wish I lived in a big city that is WALKABLE. All I have is highways and dirt roads. :P Love your bread and cheese/bean combo! It’s like homemade bar food.

I rarely miss the crazy unpredictable weather up north. I grew up in Indiana, but moved to Houston. I can pretty tell you everyday it is going to be warm and sunny. (Oddly today is one of about 5 that is rainy and chilly)

I missed my Urban Rebounding class today b/c I worked late. I hate when that happens but what can you do besides work harder the next day at the gym.

Idylwilde has the BEST baguettes! I’m sure you’ve had them, but next time you had out that way, try them if you haven’t. They’re often still warm when you pick them up.

The cookie looks like that one Odwalla bar that’s dark green, ha ha. Glad you enjoyed a nice long walk. Weather is crazy here in Kentucky too. We can have more than one season all within a week’s time!
