Last night, I went to bed hungry because of this movie:

After watching it, I would have killed for Beef Bourguignon!
Seriously, what a great movie! I LOVED Julie & Julia!
I can’t believe it took me so long to see it. It’s right up my alley!
I’m not going to write a review of the movie because I’m pretty sure everyone and their mother has seen it by now. Plus, all you need to know is: if you enjoy food, cooking, or blogging (even just a little), you will like this movie. Initially, Mal resisted watching this “chick flick” with me, but he ended up loving it almost as much as I did.
So, one of the main reasons that I loved this movie so much is because, at times, I felt like I was watching my life in a movie. There were so many similarities between Julie Powell’s life as a blogger and mine. Mal and I couldn’t help but laugh at some of the life parallels.
Here are just some of the similarities that I noticed:
- We’re both 29-years-old, turning the big 3-0
- We both live in a 900-square-foot apartment outside the city
- We both have a blog that consumes our life
- We both have multiple emotional breakdowns due to blogging
- We both worked full-time while blogging on the side
- We both lucked out with amazingly supportive husbands
- We both found a passion for life via a blog
- We both ended up with book deals because of our blogs
So, yea, I really lovedĀ Julie & Julia.
Now, I really want to see Julia Child’s house in Cambridge, MA– well, I guess just the outside of it. Apparently, her kitchen has been totally updated, but it would still be cool to see where she lived. Some of Julia’s cookbooks are held in the Culinary Collection at the Schlesinger Library, so I’ll have to visit both places the next time I am in Cambridge. Wouldn’t that be a fun trip? Blogger field trip, anyone? I also want to visit the Smithsonian at some point. Ok, I’m sort of obsessed now.
Breakfast
I went to bed hungry and woke up starving! My grumbling stomach actually woke me from a deep sleep early this morning. I tried to ignore it and go back to sleep, but a snack was calling my name. So, around 5:00 AM, I ate a piece of whole wheat bread with peanut butter smeared on top. I ate it while checking my email and playing on Twitter.
I seriously considered staying up and working on my book, but my nice, warm bed with my husband and pug in it sounded much more appealing.

A few hours later, I woke up ready to eat again.
This time, I made a bowl of Oikos Greek yogurt, [me] + Goji cereal, and candied pecans.

Excellent second breakfast!

I also had a glass of iced coffee. (It’s 14*F this morning.)

For once, not much on the agenda today:
- Gym
- Mall
- Book
Happy Sunday, bloggies!

Those pecans totally make the meal…I LOVE them. I can’t WAIT to see that movie…but now I know to watch it BEFORE dinner. Haha
Good luck with the writing!
Ahh I’m about the only person (and certainly the only blogger) in the world who hasn’t seen this movie! I just moved it up on my Netflix list – hubby is going to have to wait a bit on his other picks. Can’t wait to watch it now!
Your “second breakfast” makes me think of lord of the rings!
Katie
I actually haven’t seen the movie yet. I need to!
i loved that movie too – especially the food blogging stuff and i used to live in queens (though we were NEVER able to find gorgeous looking produce in our neighborhood like she did).
I always thought that she lucked out with a supportive husband (so did Julia Child). I recently saw an interview with the “real” Julia author though and she has a new book out about working at a butcher shop…as a consequence of having an affair and splitting up with her husband! They’re back together now but she said they began to run into trouble as she got more famous!
Julie’s next book either is coming out soon or already out is about : butcher shops and cheating on her husband….not sure it’s meant to be “inspirational”
My girlfriends and I watched that last week and we loved it! We immediately whipped up a dish of beef bourguignon the next day and it was deeeelish!
Live in framingham; would love to go to the shlessinger library w you; name the date and time!
great idea for field trip, and then def out for eats…maybe at casablanca or upstairs at the pudding!
I just watched Julie and Julia for the first time this weekend too! See all us “cool girls” are behind, I mean fashionably late!
One of my New Year’s resolutions (check out my post from 2 days ago to see them all) is to read a new cook book a month, so I think Mastering the Art of French Cooking is going to be the agenda!
Julie & Julia really inspired me to get more creative in the kitchen! Even though a lot of it was about her struggling to follow the recipes, the process really did look fun!
I woke up starving this morning too for some reason!
I agree and completely LOVED the movie! I don’t buy many movies but this is one I want to own.
You should read Julia Child’s memoir, “My Life in France.” The Julia parts of the movie were based mostly on that book, and the movie doesn’t do her story justice! It’s quite a fun read!
I’m looking at an apartment on the same street where Julia used to live. I heart her.
Hi Tina!
I’ve been reading your blog for about 6 months now and have to say that I absolutely love it!
What I’m REALLY writing about is that I watched Julie & Julia for the first time yesterday too!!! I just thought it was really funny that we both saw it for the first time at around the same time. At the start of the movie I wasn’t sure that I’d like it, but in the end I absolutely LOVED it!
Do you ever think about doing some kind of blog challenge like that with cooking??
Em
I rented the movie from the redbox and watched it about 2 nights ago. I absolutley loved it, hubs was suppose to watch it with me but he was asleep as soon as the previews started. I still enjoyed it, minus his company, and would love to read the book. Great movie!!
I loved this movie too! After watching Julie and Julia my interest in Julia Childs definitely increased, so I decided to read read My Life in France- SO good! I would definitely check it out!
I watched Julie &Julia last night too. It was SO GREAT!!
The Smithsonian has one of her kitchens. It’s cool. That book was fab-I haven’t seen the movie yet.
I can’t believe you only watched it now! When I saw it I totally saw you! It’s so much your story! But she had a boring cat, you have your super pug! You WIN!
And yep… Beef Bourguignon, Julia’s Beef Bourguignon… NEED to have it! As well as the red Le Crueset…
I was SO disappointed in the end of J&J. I felt they skimmed over the comment from Julia about her blog and I was bummed it never got resolved. I know it’s a true story, but still…
