What a FFFUN day!
It was filled with facials, fitness, fondue, and family!

This morning, our facials took a lot longer than expected, so my sister and I nixed our trip to the gym. While my sis showered and got ready, I went for a quick 30-minute run around her neighborhood. I loved running outside in the sunshine– it felt like a spring day!
After my run, I refueled with an orange and a scoop of almond butter directly from the jar (not pictured).

When my mom arrived at my sister’s apartment, the three of us chatted while enjoying some coffee. Of course, I went with the iced version.

My mom’s coffee mug was as big as her head!
(She’s trying not to laugh in this photo!)

After our coffee break, we headed to Gordon’s for Fondue Fest ’10.
The event was part hands-on/part-demonstration, which included information about the history of fondue, an overview of traditional recipes, and how to make fondue.

The menu for the event was quite impressive– it included 5 different fondues!
- Traditional Cheese Fondue – Gruyere & Emmenthaler
- Savory Cheese Fondue – Irish Cheddar & Stout
- Brie and Pesto Fondue
- Chocolate Dessert Fondue
- Flaming Turtle Fondue (from The Melting Pot)
And a whole slew of dippers, including:
- Apples
- Broccoli
- Grape Tomatoes
- Savory Herbed Mini Cupcakes
- Walnut Bread
- Sausage
- Mission Figs
- Strawberries
- Pineapple
- Orange Citrus Mini Cupcakes
- Brownies
- Marshmallows

The instructors for the class explained how to make fondue and then let us loose to make our own from scratch.

The class divided itself into 2-3 smaller groups to make the various fondue recipes.

Our group made traditional Cheese Fondue.

Here’s my mom rubbing garlic on the inside of the pot.

I started with a good-size plate of food.

Then dipped each piece in a different pot of cheese.
I loved ALL of the fondues! I really couldn’t decide on my favorite.

The cheese fondues were paired with a French white wine and an Irish Stout.

After my first plate of food, I had a few more bites.

And, then it was time for dessert!
We had a Chocolate Dessert Fondue and a Flaming Turtle Fondue.

My sister and I shared a plate of dipped fruit and Orange Citrus Mini Cupcakes. Holy yum!

And, then I went back for a few more chocolaty bites. I especially loved the chocolate dipped brownies!

Dessert was paired with a sweet dessert wine. Mmm!

Mom and me!

I’m soooo stuffed right now!
I’m not sure what’s for dinner, but it’s definitely going to be something light!
I’m taking the rest of the evening off from working/laptop/internet, so enjoy the evening, guys! I’m off to relax (and digest).

Wow! I picked a good day to stumble on your blog! The Fondue Fest looks AMAZING!!!
Wow, I need to go get some chocolate now.
PS: Just read your “About” section… Not only did I go to that Gym (Healthworks by BU) but I also used to work for the Dean of Harvard (E. Hammonds)… Totally different gig than what you had though!! I resigned after a very short period of time… it wasn’t for me. Ya gotta do what you love!
I LOVE fondue….I got fondue pot for our wedding, and sadly I’ve only used it once so far! I always feel like I need a special occasion or something to get it out for, but I’m going to change that rule soon!
What a fun day! I love facials. Wish I could afford to get them more often. Enjoy your night with the fam : )
Ahhh I just made some fondue tonight! We LOVE it!!

hope you enjoy the rest of the evening
chocolate dipped brownies!!! HEAVEN!
Mmmm just saw Rocco Dispirito taking about fondue on the Food Network last night so this is the second time it’s been mentioned in 24 hours. Might have to find some for myself soon!
My eyes went straight to the kahlua. Please tell me somebody used that in their fondue? Haha
That looks like so much fun! I wish my fam did fun stuff like that. You look SO much like your sister!
Tina,
I <3 Fondue and the pictures you posted from the fondue cooking class made me seriously h-a-n-g-ry…LOL! If I was there I may have dipped my whole head in that vat of delish smooth chocolate…MMMMMMMMMM!!

Food classes are so fun! I went to a cake baking class once, and it was such a great experience.
That class looks amazing! My friends and I love fondue and used to go to the Melting Pot all of the time in college. We would get dressed up and feel really fancy in our nice clothes at this “super fancy” restaurant. LOL.
i ran outside today too! finally a nice weekend day in boston to run.
Beautiful pics!

I don´t really like fondue… But the pics were really awesome!
By the way… You´re Mom´s lovely
Oh, and Tina…
I sent you a message.
You still use your tina@carrotsncake.com e-mail, don´t you?

Wow, what a fun day! Love the fondue.
I ran outside too for the first time in like a month and it was glorious, even though I got a few stares for being outdoors in shorts and a tee.
lol– I just read another fondue post at Jessica’s blog. Guess there was something in the air tonight
Looks a grande time was had by all – I loooooove Fondue, it is sooo yummy….I just have to laugh at your mom’s coffee mug, I so need that mug for my tea, lol…Happy Weekend
i had to work today so seeing pics of your lovely family and fun times makes me SADDD. Enjoy that chocolate for me!
Cheese and chocolate are totally my two favorite foods. Plus I love “high maintenance” foods that take a long time to eat. I dragged my boyfriend to the Melting Pot once and he will never go back (too expensive and toooooo much food.) I might have to make my own sometime.
looks yummy! i love the melting pot’s fondue desserts.
life’s too short to not enjoy treats!! the wines i’m sure were a great complement to the meal
Such a perfect day! Photos told about a lovely time shared. Thanks Susan <333
@Radha: Oops! I meant Tina
I’ve never had fondue! Looks like fun
I’ve never had fondue… I really need to try it! Looks like a great time for a big group of people!
That looks like so much fun! Do you have a fondue pot? We do, but we need to use it more often!
I’m sorry you didn’t get a chance to try a meat fondue! I guess they didn’t do it because it takes a few hours to make and simmer. Still, dropping a few mushrooms in one is pretty heavenly.
i just won a fondue pot! can’t wait to fill it.
That looks like so much fun! I have a fondue pot I’ve never used and this is totally making me want to bust it out right now!
Hi Tina!
I’ve been a devoted lurker for a while now, and I just wanted to say 1. LOVE your blog =) and 2. I made one of your microwaved cookies today for a snack and it was definitely more filling than my LUNCH and I’m a complete cookie monster so these are probably going to be an almost daily occurrence THANKS!
You 3 look so.much.alike! I’m surprised that they didn’t do a non cheese or chocolate fondue. Like a broth or wine fondue. Maybe because those are pretty self explanatory? I think my poor stomach would be very sad for a very long time after the fondue fest
but it DOES look delish!
holy cheesy and chocolately goodness. that class looks like it was so much fun and full of good eats. all the “dippers” look so fresh. i could probably eat that whole plate of strawberry and pineapples – and maybe a few cupcakes too
Fondue fest sounds so fun! I want to go!
I absolutely love fondue! For my sister’s wedding, the bridesmaids and I took her to this great fondue restaurant that had a hip and cool atmosphere. It made for such a fun, social night. The dessert fondue is always the best.
WOW!! All that looks delicious. I haven’t been to a fondue place before. Only did the whole chocolate thing at a few weddings.
That looks like such an awesome night out!! I really want to try cheese fondue, I’ve never had it before!! awhh I wish I lived wherever that is so I could go to a fondue fest
Wow that fondue looks incredible!!! And the class, so fun!
A fondue class/day is a great idea! Yum.
Believe it or not, I’ve never had fondue! I’ve been wanting to go to The Melting Pot for a while now but there isn’t one super close. It’d be great if I could find a class like you took, that looks like so much fun!
I love the family shots! Such a beautiful family!
hey Tina! I see you make a lot of iced coffee at home, have you ever tried freezing coffee into ice cube trays and using that as your ice? I saw this at a little cafe one time and thought it was a great idea that way when the ice (coffee) melts into your drink it doesn’t get watery.
