Feeling Lazy

January 31, 2010

Murphy and I feel lazy today. :-?

IMG_4464.JPG

Even though we really just wanted to snuggle on the couch all day long, we had lots to do. Somehow, we motivated ourselves to get moving.

Workout

I wasn’t in the mood to exercise, but I knew I’d feel better once I was done. Plus, if I checked my workout off my To Do list early, it wouldn’t be hanging over my head for the rest of the day. I figured that I might as well just do it.

Before I hit the gym, I snacked on a peanut butter crunch Cinch bar, which was just so-so. Of course, I enjoyed the peanut butter flavor, but like the chocolate bar, it tasted pretty artificial.

At the gym, I ended up running close to 5 miles! Don’t you love workouts like that?! You don’t want to exercise, but once you get moving, you feel great and end up having a fantastic workout. Today was definitely one of those days! :-D

Here’s the 45-minute treadmill workout that I did today:

  • 00:00 – 05:00: 6.5 mph
  • 05:00 – 07:00: 6.6 mph
  • 07:00 – 11:00: 6.7 mph
  • 11:00 – 21:00: 6.8 mph
  • 21:00 – 22:00: 6.6 mph
  • 22:00 – 23:00: 6.8 mph
  • 23:00 – 24:00: 6.6 mph
  • 24:00 – 25:00: 6.8 mph
  • 25:00 – 26:00: 6.6 mph
  • 26:00 – 27:00: 6.8 mph
  • 27:00 – 29:00: 6.9 mph
  • 29:00 – 31:00: 6.8 mph
  • 31:00 – 33:00: 6.7 mph
  • 33:00 – 35:00: 6.6 mph
  • 35:00 – 38:00: 6.8 mph
  • 38:00 – 40:00: 6.6 mph
  • 40:00 – 45:00: 6.5 mph

In 45 minutes, I almost covered 5 miles, so I walked for a few more minutes until I met my goal. I stretched for a good 10 minutes and then headed home. It was an unexpectedly awesome workout!

Lunch

For lunch, I whipped up a couple of tuna melts for Mal and me. I mixed a can of tuna with relish and mayo, spread it on top of whole wheat bread, and topped it with wasabi-horseradish cheddar cheese before popping my open-face sandwich in the toaster oven for a few minutes. Mmm! I always forget how much I like tuna melts.

On the side, I had some raw veggies.

After lunch, Mal and I decided to divide and conquer our remaining tasks for the afternoon. We still needed to go grocery shopping and take Murphy for a long walk. Mal offered to go grocery shopping solo, so I took Murph for an hour-long walk around Southie.

Our walk was really nice– a little cold, but warm in the sun. I’m just happy that I didn’t freeze to death like I normally do on long walks! 8-O

Snack

When Murphy and I returned home, I wanted something yummy to warm me up. I made myself a hot mug of Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride tea with a squirt of agave nectar and snacked on a banana. Who knew sugar cookie tea + banana would go so well together?

I’m off to relax with another mug of tea and watch some DVR shows before dinner.

P.S. Where did this weekend go!?!

Awesome workout!!

To do lists always help me get motivated to get stuff done… like put away my laundry and clean up the kitchen table… both have yet to be checked off :(

I’ve never been a fan of tea, but everyone makes the Sugar Cookie one seem so good. Maybe I need to try it out. :)

I just tried the Sugar Cookie tea for the first time yesterday, and was at first surprised at how bland it was… then I stirred in a little sugar and the flavour really came out. Next time, I’ll have to try with agave :)

Also, wasabi horseradish cheddar cheese? Yum!!

After reading about Sugar Cookie tea on this blog, I have looked for it locally at grocery stores that sell Celestial Seasonings teas. Haven’t found it so far, but I’ll be happy if/when I do! – And wasabi horseradish cheddar cheese? That’s a flavor of cheese? Sounds delish.

Whenever I feel like not going to the gym, I just remember “I never felt bad AFTER going to the gym!” Working out always makes me FEEL GREAT!

It feels so much warmer in Boston today than it did yesterday. Glad you got out and enjoyed the “heat wave”!

Seriously, this weekend went by WAY too fast! And isn’t that always the case with exercise.. even if you really don’t want to, you feel so much better once you are done. I’ve never, ever regretted a workout or run (well, except when I was running and I shouldn’t have been, due to an injury, but that’s an exception).

Tuna melt sounds good.. i’ve actually never had one before!

Those are definitely the best workouts, but it’s a lot of work just get yourself motivated to DO IT. I still have homework to do today, but I’m going to procrastinate a bit longer ;)

Random Question…I know you read a lot of health/fitness magazines. Do you save them all each month or do you pull out articles and things you want to save? If you do pull out things, how do you organize them.

I love how Murphy is sitting in that picture. Just the idea of chilling out. You are so nice to take him on an hour long walk. Our dogs don’t like the cold like this so they prefer shorter walks these days.

Love unexpectedly awesome workouts! Your run sounded great!

I had a long outdoor run planned for today, but given the 7 degree temperature I woke up to, I decided to take my run indoors. While I don’t think I could ever manage to do 13 miles on a treadmill without losing my freaking mind, I did do a little over 7, and it felt great! I hardly ever do over 6 miles on the treadmill, so I was glad I dealt with the tedium and ‘just did it’!

Do you run much outside in the winter? I’m usually good about it for the first 2 months of winter, and then quickly lose my motivation to head out in freezing temperatures at 5:45 before work. After work isn’t much better! If it’s under 30 degrees and/or super windy, I usually opt for the treadmill…

I love how you take Murphy for those long walks. I see so many people getting dogs, lose interest, and allow their pups become overweight. Obesity is just as bad for dogs as it is for us. Keep up the good work!!

I like the idea of “writing down” what you are going to do on the treadmill, that machine is so boring that writing it down may make the time go faster.

sassy molassy February 1, 2010 at 3:31 pm

Ooh, i like the tuna melt! Last night I made “cheese on bread.” Lots of varieties and a good memory from childhood. My fav way is sourdough w/ avocado, tomatoes, sliced ham and cheddar cheese on top. Then put in the oven to broil. YUM!

It is a workout like the one you described that motivate me and keep me going! When you LEAST expect it, your best workout of the week could be around the corner, so GET INTO IT! :) BTW: HOW do you run that fast on the treadmill!? Maybe it is because I feel awkward (like I’m about to fall) when I am on a treadmill, but when I get to 6.2 I feel as though i am sprinting! 6.8, you crazy, but I like it!
