A trip to the gym was just what the doctor ordered.
I feel a million times better now. I guess I just needed to sweat out some of that booze.
Workout
Lately, I’ve been slacking off with the training program for my upcoming 5K, but I’m back on track now. Yesterday, I ran 2 miles in 17:09, and today I did some upper body strength training and hopped on the elliptical for 45 minutes. It felt so good get my blood flowing!
Quickie Upper Body Workout
- Chest press: 15 reps, 3 sets, 45 pounds (bar)
- Assisted chin-ups: 8 reps, 3 sets, 65 pounds
- Assistant dips: 10 reps, 3 sets, 65 pounds
I used the Gravitron for the assisted chin-ups and dips. I forgot how much I like using this machine. You’ll probably see a lot more of it on the blog in the future.
Dinner
What to make for dinner tonight was an easy decision: SALAD! I needed nutritious food in my body ASAP.
Yummy salad toppings included: Oregonzola Blue Cheese.

Grandma-made candied pecans.

And a whole slew of veggies:
- Romaine lettuce
- Cucumber
- Red onion
- Cinnamon-baked sweet potato
- Carrots

I topped the salad with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. It was quite an amazing salad!

After dinner, I made myself a sweet treat: baked grapefruit. I have no idea where I got the idea to bake a grapefruit, but why not, right?
Here’s what I did:
- Cut a pink grapefruit in half
- Used a grapefruit spoon to cut around the sections
- Sprinkled cinnamon and brown sugar on top of each half
- Baked in the oven for 10 minutes on 350*F and then broiled for another 15 minutes

The end result was a sweet, citrusy grapefruit. The cinnamon was a wonderful flavor compliment to the grapefruit.

question, you said those nuts were grandma-made candied walnuts, but i think they’re pecans, right?
candied pecans are my FAVORITE – especially homemade. yummm.
mmmm…. that salad looks great! And it’s always twice as delicious and refreshing after indulging in the alcoholic beverages and junk food… he he he
Might have to check out Healthworks… That is a sweet offer! And your salad looks bangin’
Happy New Year Tina!
I think I need a good workout; I’m still in the phase though that wants greasy pizza and fudge
Sweet potato is SO good. I really love salads that have so many interesting things in them- salads can be awesome!
Youre so clever with the grapefruit! I LOVE health works but cannot afford a monthly membership there. I’ve gone once and felt like I was at the spa. Working out with only women makes things much more comfortable. One day….
I got back on track today with my nutrition and exercise too! I feel so much bettter!
That baked grapefruit looks really good! What a creative way to eat a citrus fruit, I never would have thought of that.
Happy New Year!
Jeez what doesn’t your Grandma make?! Baking citrus makes sense since they say to pop them in the microwave for a bit to release the juices. Will have to try the baked grapefruit!
Oh I love the Gravitron machine too! Such a good workout.
I love broiling grapefruit with brown sugar!! It’s sooo good.
BAKED grapefruit?! Genius! I will be trying this!
I am the same way after a night of a few drinks — workouts make everything better. Well, after the shower, anyways : ) Happy New Year!
Yum! I don’t usually like to eat grapefruit, but this seems like a nice detox-like dessert.
Baked grapefruit? What a great idea!
I’ll be picking up a grapefruit at the grocery store tomorrow. I can’t wait to try this! THANKS for the idea.

Darn it that Grapefruit sounds good. If only I wasn’t allergic to grapefruit. Perhaps it will work with an orange?

I think it’d be really interesting to hear more about using the Gravitron in a future post!
Gorgonzola+pecans sounds like an incredible salad addition
The Gravitron is great! It cracks me up though when I see people with the assistance set so high that they’re practically riding it like an amusement park ride and not working at all.
The baked grapefruit looks delicious!
Glad you had a great New Year’s! I was craving a big bowl of veggies last night too!!
